Nick Sabans 1st year at Bama

And what's going to set Butch apart from Dooley is recruiting. People wanted to hate the hire immediately and the main reason was "this guy can't recruit with the big boys of the SEC" well.....with a 4-6 record he has the #2 class in the country and its almost full. We are not even in December yet and Feb is a ways away. I can't remember in recruiting being at this point. Incredible job.

And the negatives are going to continue to find something else because they don't want to see this guy succeed. Yet they call themselves fans. We all knew 6-6 was most likely a the record for his first year. And he was a play or two away from 7-5 (assuming we beat Kentucky).

For the most part most logical fans expectations have been exceeded. Can't believe the talent he has coming in mid term. 15 of the 32 are EEs. I love the philosophy and its gonna get UT back sooner rather then later.

We got the #1 tight end in the country and if you look back at this staffs success, the TE was a big part of the offense. Yet, we didn't have that element in our game this year.

With Justin Worely as the QB Tennessee is going bowling this year and that's a fact. Dobbs is athletic but wasn't ready.

And not to mention the fact but we got the Berry twins. I never thought that would be possible with Dooley and they flat out said they wasn't coming when he was the coach.

All that really matter is the recruits see what's happening. None of us matter in the big picture and I am fine with that if Tennessee gets back on the map. Go Vols!

I'll give your excuse a try........Tuberville is doing it with Butch Jones' players.

Tuberville follows a coach that knew what he was doing, Butch Jones followed Dooley. Nough said.
I guess it doesn't work in this case though does it?

You really make this too easy.

He's doing it with RS senior recruited by Kelly

So I have been reading many posts mentioning Saban. I would like for someone to compare any coach within the last oh let's say 30 years to Saban. Name one coach that is as good as he is. The only one I can think of is maybe Tom Osbourne. Not every coach can be like Saban. He is one of if not the GOAT of college football.

Why do people keep bringing his name up?

Recruited by Kelly. Coached up by Butch.

We can probably keep going

Jones recruited Legaux and played him over Kay in 2012 until about mid-season and then had to play Kay because Legaux wasnt hacking it I guess

Legaux, granted he is hurt now, is now behind Kay

Hopefully, this is not a sign that their QB evaluations are sub-par

So far, the QB that they hand picked at UT isn't looking so well. Granted, he has wheels and I like the way he runs the ball, but there are issues with his mechanics that need fixing

Likely, another QB (Ferguson)that was recruited by a previous staff will start over him

Its called being a freshman. 99% of them share the same problems

Awe , looks like somebody's big brother took care of him in this case. At least I'm spouting off on what I believe to be facts instead of spouting off about a bunch of crap opinions.

So you're proud of the fact you post things without knowing the truth?

Oh wait, we're on VolNation, we're all like that! :)

I'll still take the "wait and see" attitude on Butch even though the Vandy game left me numb. It certainly looks like he can recruit and the cupboards may be full even if things don't work out.

Given that Butch only had 2 MAC titles and 2 Big East championships, I'm curious. Just how many do you have? Your theory that he lucked into those means Mahlzans success is soley attributable to Chizik and Ogeron needs to credit Kiffin.

Co-titles. In the Big East & MAC.

How many BCS bowls did those titles get him to?

no one likes logic man. At the end of the day, most people like saying how bad every concept of their team sucks and they dont want to do anything but blame the people that are trying to make it work. These type never look at anything but the Ws and Ls. Im just hope they dont apply this to everyday life or their screwed.

What did you see on the field this year that gives you hope? Forget the record. Palardy? Yeah, he's gone. What else? Not wearing sleeve in cold weather?

Seriously. Tell me & we can talk about something other than records.

Oh, and leave the life advice to Dr. Phil.

One very important part of the puzzle is a returning starter at QB. We don't have that luxury and to rub it in we are playing a true freshman.

Getting the true freshmen a snap or five early on in the season might have helped too, wouldn't it?

Butch Jones' first season at Cincy lost 11 senior starters. 5 on offense and 6 on defense.

Also don't let one of the toughest schedules ever influence any of those rational thoughts of yours.

Please continue to avoid all facts and reality when bashing BJ, it makes it so easy to defend him.

How many starters are we losing this year? Looks like you are laying the foundation for a ready made excuse next year if needed. Brick by brick.

Kind of like how Butch Jones "just held serve" for Brian Kelly built teams? Well, except for that time he went 4-8...

There is nothing wrong with just holding serve your first season, or even failing to hold serve due to circumstances. Cincy lost 5 sr starters off the offense, including QB Tony Pike, as well as 5 sr starters off the defense (and those were Mark Dantonio's recruits, not Kelly's). But especially replacing your QB, who was NFL-caliber, can cause a tough rebuild. And hey, let's ignore the fact that once he developed a new QB his next 2 Cincy teams went 10-3 and 9-3.

(not sure why Holtz is included. Does anyone ever say, "we want our coach to have the kind of success that Lou Holtz did at South Carolina!" Talk about aiming low).

Silly. No one is using Holtz at SCar as an example of who we want to emulate. But it was a response to the post that indicated there are no excuses for Jones in his first season, that apparently it is all about coaching. So, with that in mind, why would not a former NC coach such as Holtz not be able to go to SCar and win at least one game his first season?

Not if you are intending to RS them, as CBJ indicated all along was his intent.

Better thread would have been Nick Saban's 2nd and 3rd years at Bama.

You make the whole point of this thread your arguement against the thread.

1. No coach is anywhere near coaching like Saban does or possessing a team like Saban does (even though they were beat saturday)

2. Sabans first year at Alabama sucked. Although he's a great coach with multiple championships

3. CBJ's first year at UT sucked

4. First years almost are never miraculous, give CBJ a chance to prove hes not capable. One year is clearly not enough for any fan to assume he cant turn this team around. Get off his back ppl! unless you would like to invite kiffin or dooley back. Heck we cant afford anyone else leaving.!:banghead2:
