Yes, and these types of threads were all over VN as they are about Nico now.I hope Nico is Peyton 2.0 but let’s not forget, Harrison Bailey was a 5* as well wasn't he?
What did everyone think what was gonna happen when he isn’t getting a chance over a QB that has a 61 QBR? There are teams that are willing to give him a chance if Heupel won’t.
And again, how do you know he’s not ready? He has got to throw 5 passes all season long. He should have played more than what he has and yet Heupel won’t put him in because he doesn’t want a QB controversy if he plays better. Remember Heupel also thought Hooker wasn’t ready and started Milton over Hooker also.
You evidently have a reading comprehension problem. The post I replied to stated unequivocally that there had not been a true freshman quarterback succeed in the last thirty years - the poster didn’t qualify it by saying there had not been a true freshman succeed with less than perfect conditions; he said it hadn’t happened which was a wildly uninformed and ignorant statement. I corrected him. Learn how to read.Every qb you have mentioned as being successful, and they were, was surrounded exponentially more talent offensively than this team has and it isn't even close. That 2000 Tennessee team had several future NFL players on it. The 2004 team had one of the best receiving groups in UT history in addition to Cedric Houston at rb. You should take your own advice
I had not timed it but knew he held the ball a long time on that strip sack. Five seconds is forever. Amazing to me the people on here who have tried to claim that loss isn’t on him. It’s not solely on him, but he had a damn big part of it. He missed two TD throws in the red zone and gave them an easy scoop-and-score that was abominably bad.Rather if anyone wants to admit it or not, the future is now. If Nico transfers, we are in trouble next year for QB. Milton has shown all season what his max is and it isn’t very good. In 4 SEC games this year have scored more than 20, one time. If we had last year’s defense with this QB, we would have losing record right now. Defense is the reason why we are sitting at 5-2 right now.
Also everyone wants to point at our OLine and claim it’s not any good. Well we have the top rushing team in the SEC, given up the 3rd fewest sacks in the SEC, so I think our offensive line is good. When Milton got hit from behind against Bama he held the ball for 5 seconds. He has to make his mind up yo either run or throw ball away. 5 seconds is enough time for an average QB to make a decision. He has taken hits and sacks that could have been prevented if he would have made a quicker decision. Getting 5 seconds to make your mind up is more than enough time.
It wasn’t McDonalds bags. But other than that I agree.I’m not saying the report is valid or invalid, but saying tampering is against NCAA rules and using that as justification that this isn’t happening is comical (search Harbaugh’s sign stealing, TN McDonalds bags, and the list goes on. Or just explain how athletes have been signing with other schools as soon as the portal opens)
I can show you 16 true freshman and provide you with their stats that have started since 2003. But this chart only has the 5 star players and what they did as freshman, there were 53 five stars between 2003-2023. There were 3 and 4 star QBs that also started during those time frames (Eric Ainge and Tyler Bray being a couple of them).
Ok, here you go
In his defense. He also had 330 of our 404 yardsI had not timed it but knew he held the ball a long time on that strip sack. Five seconds is forever. Amazing to me the people on here who have tried to claim that loss isn’t on him. It’s not solely on him, but he had a damn big part of it. 1- just because something isn’t illegal doesn’t mean teams aren’t doing it.This is just dumb, 1. Because it’s illegal, and 2. Nico has everything he needs here. He will be starter for 2-3 years then hopefully go to NFL. Wouldn’t make sense any other way for him.
When Schaffer and Ainge came in as freshmen in 1994 and started it was a unique situation, not something you can refer to as a modicum of proof as to why you should throw an untested freshman in there when the established QB1 has some bad plays. When they came in, the only other QB was Rick Clausen, an unproven transfer from LSU, who got on campus at the same time as Schaffer and Ainge. Schaffer actually started ahead of Ainge through the Florida game. As it turned out, as a matter of FACT, both Ainge and Schaffer were hurt at the end of the season and Clausen played great ending the regular season, into the SEC championship game and in the ass kicking of Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl. Like a lot of other people in this forum, you have no use nor interest in detail and nuance. Those situations where a true freshman starts at QB for a big time power 5 and succeeds are an anomaly. Of course you couldn't have possibly known that.I had not timed it but knew he held the ball a long time on that strip sack. Five seconds is forever. Amazing to me the people on here who have tried to claim that loss isn’t on him. It’s not solely on him, but he had a damn big part of it. Scoop and score wasnt on Milton. That was a blind side sack. Joe was not a big part of the loss. Get real.I had not timed it but knew he held the ball a long time on that strip sack. Five seconds is forever. Amazing to me the people on here who have tried to claim that loss isn’t on him. It’s not solely on him, but he had a damn big part of it. We arent starting Nico yet. There's an entire season to play for. If we get to Missouri and lose. Then its time to set the boat on fire and start over. This could also be a contact from Nico camp's indirect way of saying "start me or lose me to a competitor next season".
The Vols need to start him to see if he has anything this season, so it wont be another bonehead move we will all live to regret.
Anyway, Milton is probably going to hurt recruiting if Heupel keeps on letting him start.
No, we wouldn't "start over". We adjust accordinglyWe arent starting Nico yet. There's an entire season to play for. If we get to Missouri and lose. Then its time to set the boat on fire and start over.
If kid doesnt want to sit snd believes he is entitled to start elsewhere then hes better off elsewhere.
I followed his and his Brothers recruitments closely. I am near 100% certain that this is a stupid ass internet rumor.
He stays, and he's a day 1 starter next year.
His brother loves it here. He CHOSE to come here, had offers from everywhere else - knowing Milton was the guy. Kid is waay too smart. waay too mature to fall for this.
Gotta love the FF.
I agree. I would rather him play like garbage and win than have good stats and lose. This is definitively the worst offense CH has had in his head coaching career. I think the stat I saw was the CH offense has never finished outside the top 10. Hope someone can fact check me thereAnd we lost. He played his worse game against aTm and we won. This team will go as the running game and defense goes.
Yeah. Even in the 0.0001% chance he leaves, there would be a plethora of great QBs wanting to come here. We would generate unseen interest from both portal transfers and the best high schoolers. Heupel was a national championship QB and has an innovative offensive mind. He knows WTF he is doing with QBs. That's the least of my concerns, none being worrisomesomething like that. or who cares? Point is he isnt leaving. Silly rumor.
