Nico is not ready

No he wouldn't. He'd be eaten alive by defenses. Sorry, Volgod maker, you have no idea whereof you speak (post). He got lucky with Iowa because Joe did a near game time pull out. Iowa having prepped for Joe had to pivot to deal with a QB they had no real info about. Added to the fact they didn't have an offense to speak of, Nico stepped into the perfect stroll down Easy Street.
Iowa knew who the qb was going to be. And yes, I still say Nico should have got much more playing time last year.

Yeah they knew after Joe formally pulled out. So had to adjust their game planning. Yeah, you and me think and believe differently. Neither of us killed anybody on account of it. That's good, right?

Right, lol. I do like your sense of humor that's good. It's good to be able to disagree without fighting about it.

It is a perfect combination of 4 things:

1. Nico struggling
2. Bad play calling
3. WR not getting open
4. Bad Offensive Line

All 4 are working in conjunction.

Nico has all the ability to be great.

A couple of his passes were amazing with pin point accuracy.

However, other were off by just a few feet over 30 to 50 yards of distance. Not really that bad, perhaps just a little unlucky on the this day?

As it has been said before, it's a game of inches.....sometimes good and sometimes bad

1. We have no consistent deep threat. Heup is known to run only trusted guys at the position. We don't have that this year and Bru is not a burner.
2. Online play on the edges. Heard has been soft. Campbell was getting worked during the OU game.
3. Play Call ( its actually not as bad as you think we just don't have number 1 above.
4. Question ? Comms mic between Nico and Huep cuts out at 15 left on play clock. In our offense with our tempo they should be able to talk the entire game no? Why isn't Hazel telling Heup where to throw the ball from upstairs and Heup having plenty of time to tell Nico ? This is something ive been asking myself as in theory this should be open communication all game

I think some of the factor is bad luck/breaks and confidence as well. I think it is impacting more than just Nico as well. If they come out confident, I think we could see a different offense.

Nico is not ready, not all his fault, the play calling was also bad, but he missed an easy pass at the end I think to the TE, he also has no urgency about him wasting time at the start of drives, not running looking down field WAY too long... Gaston Moore needs to start, he might not make some of the big plays Nico does but he will make the little ones consistently. I'm not giving up on Nico, but he needs to sit and watch Gaston run the show and learn.
BS!!!

After watching Florida, I am less concern about this item. We had some open WRs down field, the passes just didn't connect. Nico threw a few that were on target and caught but the ones that would have lead to points were overthrown/dropped. I have more confidence on this one after that game. It is just a matter of getting the timing right between WR and Nico (it may not all be on Nico as WRs may be slowing down on some instances or be out of place to catch the throw).

I do wonder if the Mic is causing issues. It seemed like a plus at the start but it might be causing Nico and Heupel to both overthink the plays.

in my humble opinion two things are the issue with the passing game. (1) left tackle and (2) Nico is not yet anticipating the receiver coming open for whatever reason. If the left tackle is getting back in shape and the connectivity between Nico and the receivers continue to develop, we will be a tough out. Couple breaks go our way (turnovers) and the refs getting their eyesight back on holding calls and pass interference, we can beat Alabama. I honestly believe that by the time Ga. gets here we will be rolling.

Good christ these threads are tiring.

My take: Imagine if the QB wasn't a 5* 6'6" guy who moves well. Until the OL, QB, WR mesh, we're not going to be explosive. Until the pressures, hurries, sacks, and holds stop, we're not gonna be explosive. How many 1st and 20, 2nd and 15 situations are we gonna continue to get in? We had 20 offensive penalties the last 2 games. For 130 something yards.

It doesn't matter how open some dude on the other side of the field is if the QB has had to run away from pressure because some OL or RB decided not to block. Sorry. You're watching the wrong part of the field.

Were the first four not enough experience to get him better for tonight?
16/26 for 169 yds 1 iint. It supports your narrative more when you have accurate data

No. 1 is funny. We've had guys open often on deep routes. Do you actually watch the games?

Nico’s numbers (as a RS freshman) are pretty comparable to other QBs in the country right now. Hes fine.

Cam Ward is the only QB that’s truly balling out right now, and I suspect that Miami’s schedule plays into that a little.

Exactly. And the fans who wanna bitch about play calling every time the offense struggles are self identifying. Heupel schemed guys open against Florida. I saw them. I was there. Nico didn’t hit them and sometimes didn’t see them. Sometimes he was very close to hitting them. Sometimes, the blocking didn’t hold up. But as a play caller, if you’re scheming guys open, you’ve done your job. It’s up to the players to execute.

I wonder if him not running down the field as much as he did is by design by the coaching staff? I still believe Nico is good enough. We just have to open up the offense, and let him get into the flow of the game. Pass more on 1st down and not be too predictable.

its not all on Nico. Even this week, Heupel alluded to the issues.

WRs have not been consistent with route running. Nico has not been consistent and they are not calling many running plays by design (fearful of injury IMO). Then you have the OL blocking issues. RB blocking issues.

if you review his press conferences, its the same every week. 11 guys not working as one. He points to issues with every position group. Its been consistent since Oklahoma game about offensive issues.

Keep It Simple, Stupid

Simplify and shorten the route trees. Focus on 1-2 reads then scramble. Attack the questionable Bama secondary early. Mix in some 12 man. Get the TEs some passes in short yard throws in mismatches on the outside. Add some designed rollouts. Get the ball in your playmakers hands.

This is the point in the season where the team decides if they want to get into the CFP or not. We have a bye after, so play hard knowing a long rest is coming.

Every time I see this thread’s title, I wonder what Nico forgot to put on today. Was it his belt? Did he forget to brush his teeth? Maybe he left his garlic necklace behind..

Someone help Nico get ready!

We don’t have a burner do we ? Sure thorton can get open but he’s not Hyatt or javonte Payton. We do not have a burner and Heup literally will only play guys he trust. Do you not know the program ?

Hate on Greg McElroy, but listened to him. He was right in looking like Nico was just overwhelmed. He kept going through progressions, instead of making a choice. He said he just kept reading and rereading.

The receivers were way ahead of the defenders on the overthrown deep ball passes. You're right, Heup should play guys he does not trust.

If guys are open on deep posts and GO routes, what's the difference? They're fast enough. Jerry Rice ran a 4.6. I'm not saying we have a Jerry Rice, but if guys are open down field it doesn't matter.
