Nightmare Scenario

If UGA loses in Atlanta, they will have 3 losses and be ranked / seeded ahead of us. I'm not sure why folks are having trouble understanding this.

Maybe. None of us really know how the committee will handle that because it’s a new process and a new group making the decision

Committee isn't going to penalize a team from the SEC or Big Ten for losing a conference title game that is meaningless.

They may not completely remove them from the playoff, but they may drop their seeding. We will know in about ten days

Ehhh depends on margin of defeat. If they get throttled then a case could be made to drop them a couple spots. How teams are playing at the moment should be included in the discussion for team rankings. Struggling against an average Georgia Tech team and then getting blown out against Texas would be interesting to see what the committee would do. I don’t think UGA will get blown out though haha

Penalized as in not falling out of the playoffs

If Texas beats UGA by multiple scores with 3 losses UGA is falling a couple of spots in the seeding

Maybe. In my scenario they were already ahead of us in terms of in/out. If that were the case, they wouldn’t be dropped out

They aren't leaving a 10-2 SEC team out.
10-2 isn't some magical threshold. We had lost our way out of the playoff picture in Athens. Then, by a major stroke of luck, a bunch of other teams above us lost their way out of the playoff. Which then allowed us to ease our way back into the playoffs. But we aren't in merely because we finished 10-2.

It kinda is. We would be out if we were 9-3. Even before the craziness of last week, we still had like a 76% chance to make the playoff if we beat Vandy.

A&M wins the SEC
Miami doesn’t fall below us after their loss
Texas stays ahead of us despite their loss
Oh State wins the Big 10

1. Oh St
2. Texas A&M
3. SMU
4. Boise
5. Az State
6. Penn State
7. Indiana
8. Miami
9. Georgia
10. Texas
11. Notre Dame
12. Oregon

I’m not saying that will be the order (haven’t taken the time to think about the exact order), only saying there’s a chance we could be left out if those things happen
Yuck, that’s an awful scenario. I’m glad it didn’t play out that way.
