Apparently our contract with Adidas is up in June, but I don't see UT going with anyone else, nor do I want them to unless it is LA Gear or Russell, the two biggest brands of the future.

Adidas takes care of us and a few elite schools unlike Nike who will sponsor anybody with a pulse....I prefer to feel special than just another face in the crowd.

There it is. Adidas treats UT like kings. Nike won't. So, you go where the money and opportunities are. If Nike, or anyone else, offered a competitive contract, UT would listen. Some athletes do require special modifications or considerations in equipment fitting and those accommodations are met by UT. I think that if a college athlete makes a recruiting decision based on brand name, they may be in for many disappointments in life ahead.

Nike makes better gear too. Adidas is about as lame as it gets apparel wise. Plenty of teams also have Nike and still retained their traditional uniforms.

selby makes his decision at a nike camp and he picks a nike school. who was the kid last year who was committed to us and then changed his committment to a nike school after he attended the lebron james camp (sponsored by nike.)

I agree that football isn't a big deal but in basketball the elite kids are being heavily influenced to attend schools that have nike contracts.

i think that world wide west has his fingers in the nike pie.
You're entire post is wrong. You need to do a little research before posting all inaccurate information dude.

Nike operates on a tiered system though. We'd be in tier 2 so no guarantees on what the unis look like

That's the complete opposite of my experience. I've never had a problem with any adidas gear that I've had, and whenever I wear something made my Nike, there's a noticeable drop in quality (with the exception of sandals).

Just curious... how do you know?

I played college soccer, wasn't football or basketball, but I did take gear into play in my decision.

I went to school with people that also went to college on scholarship and they do look at what they will be wearing.

Consider me in the "Nike can only help out" camp. Like it or not many basketball players DO idolize the Nike brand and I would venture a (somewhat educated) guess that a school's Nike sponsorship has at least some level of influence on the considerations of these young players. You guys have to realize that by and large we are usually not dealing with the brightest individuals that high schools are putting out.

Nike will only make recruiting easier for us. When a 18 year old kid looks at a school he doesn't look at the classroom or morals, the kid wants to see how good he will look in the jersey next year and if he feels comfortable in the shoes and gloves. I would know because i play D-1 football. Nike is the king of brands....

Hey, I played college soccer too. Playing at a Nike school was a bit frustrating. They let me keep my Kelme boots though.

Seeing South Carolina tape their shoes together makes me want Under Armour as well.

UA will never compete with Nike or Adidas for that matter.

UA is already more popular with teens than adidas, and its not even close anymore. I think UA is redneck gear but at least they are sinking money into tech where adidas just blows money on advertising and is content to just copy Nike's tech a year late.

DeerPark12, you adidas lover, where are you?
