As long as some players on the team are being paid and others are not receiving money, there will always be tension in the locker room. Banks is a tremendous player but wasn’t getting NIL money.
My solution is to have each NIL deal benefit the entire team. Every time a player gets an NIL deal, a portion of that amount (like a tax) is taken out and put into a pot of money that gets divided between every scholarship player on the team each month via check. It doesn’t sound like much, but I believe it would add up depending on what that percent is used. This allows the individual player with the NIL deal to receive a significant amount of money, while their teammates also benefit. This is not the pros where everyone on the roster is paid. This is college football and players couldn’t receive anything until just recently. Every player on the field is a major contributor to the success of each player around them. It only makes sense that the teammates that helped a player get a NIL deal receive part of their NIL money. Let me know everyone’s thoughts.

I came up with the same idea some time ago and was called a "communist". Be careful my friend.

Nah. The players that get the deals deserve it.

More like socialist than communist, but I get the point, too. We are now in the wild west when it comes to NIL. Until firm guidelines or rules are put in place, guided by the involvement of attorneys in the writing of some of these NIL deals, we are in for some really crazy times. Tampering is becoming the norm in many instances as bigger programs are already reaching out to players and their families from mid major programs, trying to entice them to enter the portal and come elsewhere.

The NIL is based on Name, Image and Likeness of an INDIVIDUAL player. It was stated by US SC that players can't be restricted from using it. Taking any amount from their individual NIL is violation of the SC mandate. Now a sponsoring company can give all athletes money to evenly distribute (or a part of it) but they would have to sign all athletes on team. May be another guy on team making big money from rival company doesn't sign. It gets very messy as soon as you try something like that.

The majority of the team is not receiving money. Even though they are all key contributors to each player’s success. What do you say to a player like Darnell Wright risking his body every game but not getting payed? Without him, Hooker and Hyatt do not have as great of seasons. Does Darnell not deserve it?

It’s basically professional sports with no salary cap or free agency restrictions. And you only pay a handful of players you really want to get or keep. It’s crazy.

Bank's lack of NIL momey was his own fault. The 2 incidents on video from the Pruitt years don't make companies want you associated with their product.

I see what you're getting at on splitting the money. But I don't think the school can do that. The whole point of NIL is the school isn't involved. It's between the player and whoever is paying them. The school has no claim to that cash.

There would obviously need to be some amendments or revisions to what was passed. Make the taxed money go directly to the school that the player with the NIL deal is attending. Then leave it up to the School to divide the money amongst the players on the team. They could come up with rules and guidelines on how it’s divided. Paying a tax or portion of money to the university, that ultimately gets divided amongst the entire team doesn’t seem unfair to the individual. It’s what’s fair to the team. Give the sponsors the choice to have the amount taxed a percent or provide enough of whatever compensation being given to be awarded to all the players. Kind of how Hyatt wanted to make sure his NIL deal with Hyatt hotel’s benefitted the entire team.

Based on his NIL, apparently not. Maybe he needs help in marketing himself.
If players were getting paid based on their performance, then yes he would deserve it.
I don’t know about football but most of the Lady Vols apparently have NIL deals so I assume Darnell has one.

That’s true. He put himself in that situation.

I think the school shouldn’t receive any of the money but just be responsible for distributing the correct amount amongst the correct players. There’s so much freedom right now with NIL though it would take a lot of rules and regulations to have any kind of control like professional sports. Then it would get really tricky for high school players that aren’t committed to get NIL deals unless a portion got divided amongst the high school team lol.
The whole NIL concept is primarily used to pay players to go to a particular school. Right now it’s just going to show that the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer. The only way to fix that is by paying players out of the money actually generated from the the athletics department (ticket sales, merchandise, TV contracts, etc.). That’s the money that should be used to pay players, not random boosters’ pockets to make them pick their schools.

According to this USA Today article, that's how Oklahoma and Ohio St. handle their NIL business. No idea if this is correct or not.

Yeah, everyone has some decent ideas how to make it fair and keep the peace. Problem is what’s “fair” and what’s legal isn’t the same thing. You cannot cap an individual’s earning potential, you also cannot take money away from one guy to give to others without their consent.

Not sure I would call it socialism or communism. Their teammates helped them obtain that success. Hooker and Hyatt were great but without the OL, RBs, and other WRs (or in some situations, the defense) doing their part they don't have the year they did

The college doesn’t control how NIL is distributed. Your other idea will never happen for several reasons. One of which most athletic departments are under water anyways in budget once you distribute the earnings to satisfy title IX. The rich will always get richer in other words. Why would a university pay for players when the fans and boosters are already doing it for them? Redistribution of funds has never worked well period.

Player’s are paid though NIL based off their performance. But it’s primarily skill player’s on offense that you hear about. Similar to the flashy skill players in the NFL getting the biggest contracts. The main difference is everyone else on the team still gets paid because that team wants to keep the player’s on the roster. Ultimately, there needs to be some type of restrictions from paying players whatever you want to get them to go to your program. It’s going to destroy college football by creating an even larger gap between the big and small programs. Unless you get a coach like Coach Prime loaded with money that can afford players lol

I don't like NIL; however, with that being said I would be fine if the money was coming from sales like jerseys with the players name and number, autographed pictures and such.

But, if we are going down this rabbit hole I think that like 50% of the deal should go to the player and the other 50% should be divided amongst the rest of the team or at the very least the starters on the unit that the player getting the deal plays on.

With all of the money going to just one player with this kind of deal is a Monopoly and it's going to cause friction as these things are way to publicized to not be an issue.

The QB or whoever, is going to need other players help (think offensive line) to be worth the money in the first place, so they are contributing to that players value and should be compensated for their work, again if we are going to stay with this model, so that is what makes it not be communism.

Three reasons the death of college football is imminent : 1. Nil.....very unfair to the majority of team mates that get 0 ! 2. Transfer Portal .......breeds lack discipline by coaches , because they are afraid their best players will transfer if the coach is a real disciplinarian ! 3. Opting out of bowl games makes many games totally insignificant , thus they become a definite farce.

He only deserves what someone wants to pay him. If no one wants to pay him then enjoy your scholarship.

Is this the reason that Banks is rumored to be Portal bound? Is he looking for a deal to stay in Knoxville?
He accepted a Shrine Bowl invitation which basically means he plans to enter the draft. He isn’t in the portal and I don’t expect him to enter it.
