Nirvana Gets Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nomination | TIME.com

and from the "makes me feel old" part of the article

Despite the band’s legendary status, this is the first time they’ve been nominated, as acts don’t qualify for the Hall of Fame until at least 25 years have passed since the release of their first album, the New York Times reports. Nirvana’s first single, “Love Buzz,” was released in 1988.

Other first-time nominees include Hall & Oates, Linda Ronstadt, and The Zombies. Peter Gabriel

I don't like their music but they should be admitted to the HoF in my opinion. They were responsible for creating a style of music that lasted for ten plus years and may still exist.

I loved Nevermind when it came out. Then I got so burned out on it I couldn't even listen to it. I did however get the urge about 4 months or so ago and it is still a great album. I was always partial to their Unplugged album though. Never got tired of it.

While I have often felt their influence is overrated they definitely deserve HoF status.

Unplugged is the only Nirvana I can listen to.

They should automatically be added. No nomination, no voting.

Nirvana is second only to the Beetles, IMO, as far as the amount of influence and impact they had on changing the face of rock n roll.

They didn't create grunge music. There was a massive scene full of great bands playing the same type of music. They were part of that.

True. . . But how many would have heard it and been influenced by it if Nirvana hadn't found mainstream success?

Chances are another group would have filled the void. Pearl Jam perhaps.

I give Nirvana credit for being extremely influential but I'm not sure I would put them in the top 5 most influential rock bands much less second only to the Beatles. Just off the top of my head I would put Led Zeppelin, the a Rolling Stones, the Doors, the Who, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, and several more ahead of them.

Definately deserved imo.

More controversial, I feel NWA deserves to get in too. They're on the ballot and they absolutely changed the face of rap music. Whether you're a fan or not, I don't see how you could argue their influence is still felt to this day.
