NIT hopes

Tennessee would have to win out and make it to the SEC championship (likely meaning that the Vols would have to beat Vandy twice in 2 weeks). That's a tall task, but if they do, I think we'd be a bubble team.

If we do that, I think we're probably in. RPI forecast projects our RPI would run up into the mid-50s, and that'd almost certainly give us 5 top 50 wins. If we win the next three straight and then lose, our RPI is probably high-60s or low-70s, and we're probably on the bubble but on the wrong side of it. Although it's hard to argue we wouldn't have a better resume than a couple of last year's bubble teams that got in.

That said, we're underdogs in our next two for a reason.

The NIT means nothing. It is the only competition I know of designed to determine which also-ran is the 65th best team in the nation.
Why bother? Why spend a fortune in travel, room and board with the only hope is proving your team is 65th in the nation?
Why take student athletes away from their studies to waste their time playing other also-ran teams to decide which team can only beat another team that hadn't done anything respectable during the season?
And yes, I remember when the NIT meant something and when it was really the "Big Dance", but today it is what?

A chance for Coach Martin to do what he does. Coach them up. Every player on the team has grown as a basketball player throughout the season. Why not get as much practice and games as possible? Tn only loses two players this year, so the more the season is extended the better for next year.

More like the 35th-40th best team in the nation. If we were to win the NIT, I'd be impressed.

We were picked to be slammed by nearly everyone we played this season and picked next to last in the conference. To even be in a position for a first round bye and talking about the NCAAs or NIT tournament is pretty amazing.

Yeah, just think. 75% of our scoring was gone - Tatum was the lone returning starter (omg). Many thought 11th in the SEC was too high.

The fact that we're even in the conversation is a miracle.
