NIT odds

What are the chances?

We have 6 more regular season games remaining and then we play in the S.E.C. tournament. Should we get 5 more wins, to reach an 18 win season, then add in the fact that UConn, Florida at home and Florida away, were quality wins, we will get in the NCAA.
If we barely miss getting in to the NCAA, say with 17 wins, rather than 18 wins, then I see us going to the NIT.
All of the remaining games in our schedule are winnable games; including the Vandy game, at TBA.
If Mc & Mc (McBee & McRae) continue to be 3 point threats and we have no injuries or suspensions, then I see no reason for us to not get in the NCAA as a 16th seed.

Big conference schools do not get 16 seeds. Just doesn't happen.

the last at-large bids are generally in the 12th and sometimes 13th seed range. The seeds higher go to AQ conference champions that suck, the ETSU's and IUPUI's of the world

Going to the nit is like pissing into a dark pair of pants. It gives you a warm moist feeling, but nobody notices.

Regardless of the "feeling", an opportunity to play in any post-season tourney would be great for this team. Looking at the big picture, I know I'd be excited to see them go the NIT. It would be a great, well-earned experience for these guys.

I love the format of the NIT. Get some extra games at home - and some decent matchups. If you make it far enough you go to NYC! Obviously better than any city the NCAA tourney would throw at you.

If we were to make it that far, I'd make that trip in a heartbeat

Of course I'd rather make the NCAAT, but a NIT run would be nice for this team. The more they play, the more opportunities to get better.

Depends on how far you advance in the SEC Tournament. If they make the Top 4 and win 5 of the last 6 regular season games, they Dance.

I think this team scares the crap out anyone playing in the SEC tourney. You never know. Remember Georgia from a few years back.

I'll go out on a limb and say that I think the NIT would be better for this team. Better opportunity to make a deeper run, and potentially give this young team more confidence going into next year.

I preface that by saying that a NCAA bid would be golden, but I don't know how much good a 1st round lose does in the long term.

Only bad thing about an NIT bid is if we face a good team in our first game and lose, this board would explode with negativity about how bad this team sucks and coach Zo needs to go.
