NIT odds

Only bad thing about an NIT bid is if we face a good team in our first game and lose, this board would explode with negativity about how bad this team sucks and coach Zo needs to go.

exactly. go to nit and people are gonna expect us to make a deep run, go to ncaa t and people expect first round lost. much different perception both locally and nationally from both scenarios.

the only way you get positive attention from nit is by winning it, and even then it isnt much. if you pull a 1st round upset or even dont, you get great publicity from playing in the ncaa t.

there is no debate you take ncaa t all day every day over nit trip.

with that said i wouldnt turn down nit if we're invited this year, the experience will be good, it just doesnt even compare to that of the ncaa.

A lot of folks are gonna disagree, but with this team, I'd rather make a good run through the NIT than have a one and done NCAA bid. I think this team could go somewhere in the NIT

that doesnt mean anything, who cares about a nit run? nobody.

there is no positive what so ever of the nit over the ncaa, except possibly the extra couple practices you will get. i have a hard time believing we'll benefit greatly from 2 or 3 extra practices.

and heres the thing...theres no way to predict the future. you dont know that going to the nit means we get a run, we could lose the first game. just like going to the ncaa t doesnt mean we get knocked out, we could draw a good matchup. you just never know and thats why you take the ncaa everyday of the week without even pausing to consider.

especially when this summer we'll be in europe practicing as a team everyday.

Just a wild guess, but I'm thinking it's slightly better than 50/50 right now

Tennessee should be fine in terms of an NIT chance. They can easily go 4-2 down the stretch and that will be good enough to make it regardless of what happens in New Orleans.

If we end up strong I believe the NIT would love to have a team with a draw like the Vols. One or 2 games could be at TBA and draw huge crowds. Money talks.

The NCAA tourney is NOT in our hands short of winning the SEC tourney. That's because too many other good teams would have to lose a lot of games for it to all happen.

If we did win say 5 or 6 SEC games left; maybe the NIT but we have not won that many all year and I frankly think it's too much to ask now.

Bottom Line: We aren't going to either dance this year but there is more hope for next year that I didn't see up until Stokes starting playing.

Arkansas can't win a road game (Like us actually) Alabama's Tourney chances are about to implode. If we beat Arky we'll get 4th place.

please go read the "reality is" thread, it will educate you.

the dance is completely in our own hands thats the dumbest thing you've said. its in our hands to win the next 6 games and be 19-12. it then is in our hands to win 1 or 2 in the sec t. if you do those things your in.

how are we not in control of our own destiny?

we are not relying on anybody to lose, we're relying on us beating people. what are you talking about? ive never seen something more in our hands.

What is the minimum qualification to get into the NIT? Does like 16-16 get you in? Or do you have to have a winning record? Or what?

In the past, NIT teams were selected in consultation with ESPN, the television home of the NIT. The goal of the NIT was to sustain the MIBA financially. Therefore, schools selected to play in the NIT were often major conference teams with records near .500 that had large television fan bases and would likely have a respectable attendance for tournament games on their home court.

The NCAA announced a revamped selection process starting with the 2006 tournament. The main highlights are:

Teams are no longer required to have .500 or greater records to receive bids. Even with this change, however, all teams receiving invitations for the NIT have had .500 or greater records.

Similar to the automatic bids the NCAA Tournament grants for all conference tournament champions, all teams that won regular-season conference championships but failed to earn NCAA tournament bids are guaranteed places in the NIT.

Ah, we're in the NIT if we win the rest of the games, and even if we lost 1 or 2 of them I think we would still be. Now if we win out and win 1 SEC tourney game, we would be on the bubble, win 2 SEC tourney gamees I think we make the cut. Or you can just win the whole SEC tourney!
