If that’s the case we need to keep bidding. Surely there’s a few guys we can give the boot to after spring practice to open that “cap space” up. This guy is a must get for our secondary. Especially knowing we finished just behind Ole Miss in his recruitment and corner being the biggest weakness on our roster and him being a freshman All AmericanWe were in a good spot with him then ole miss upped their offer
No we don't need to keep bidding. Spyre (I'm sure in conjuction with coaches) have a set value for guys and they stick to it. He is definitely not a must get. The freshman All-American moniker is one of the most misleading things in college football. Many guys obtain that honor just because they managed to start as a freshman and have stats to actually be posted. There could be 25 other guys better than you on teams with more talented depth at the same position. Could he be a good acquisition? Yes.If that’s the case we need to keep bidding. I think he ends up somewhere for the spring semester. If you follow academic calendars then it points towards Tennessee. Now, I did see years ago Rashad Moore in football come to campus over a month into the semester and go to class so I guess anything is possible.
The biggest reason you are hearing Texas A&M is that it's rumored Chris Partridge might end up on that staff, but it hasn't happened yet. I believe Tennessee has had the most dialogue with Davison over the last 24 hours.

Or what?He is
To answer all of those questions. No, but if we want to take another step towards winning the East we need a corner that has shown he is capable of playing at a at high level in the SEC. Right now he’s the only corner available that fits that bill. Could a better one become available? Sure, but a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush. As far as developing what we already have outside of Slaughter there isn’t a top notch SEC caliber corner on our roster from this past season. I have no doubt that Gibson and Matthews will be good if developed properly. I think Gibson is the more SEC ready of the 2 and that Matthews has some stuff he needs to work on, but in an ideal world we’re not relying on 2 true freshman for depth or even starting talent in a year where we’re looking to build on a 10 win regular season. As far as personnel or schematic changes are concerned we tried that last year and it failed. We had safeties and walkons starting at corner because we neglected the corner position in the portal. Granted we have at least gotten a corner this year and signed better corners than the 22 class, but with the growth we’ve seen at every position outside of DB the fanbase as well as the staff should strive for our secondary to be as good as every other position on the roster. Getting this guy not only improves the corner position, but allows us to move Slaughter back to safety or star which also improves those positions. It also helps move Turnage inside and doesn’t force us to throw a true freshman into the fire or a guy that isn’t a corner if god forbid a starting corner goes outOr what?
Do we not win an SEC game without him?
Do we lose to an OOC game without him?
Does our pass D get worse without him?
We could easily get another guy, we could actually develop the guys we have, we have a much better chance since we have scholarship CBs available for spring practice. We could make other personnel or schematic changes.
does he make us better, sure, why not. Or he could be like some other transfers and come in and sit for whatever reason. We have no idea how anybody will turn out. There’s no reason to believe he wouldn’t be a significant upgrade at the position compared to what we have returning from last season. I’m not saying he would be Jalen Ramsey or Patrick Peterson for us, but adding him completely changes our secondary at both corner and safetydoes he make us better, sure, why not.
