Both of them? What’s going on with GJL?
Oh nothing, it's just ironic how Gabe's transfer seemed to take a while to be confirmed and then now this guy's. When corner is our biggest need.

Heck last year it seemed like we always had to jump through a bunch of hoops to finally land every transfer.

Just seems like some teams like Florida State or USC just immediately land everyone.

Not being critical just impatient about it lol

I think a lot of it is how deliberate and picky the staff at Tennessee is. They’re not only looking for impact at the position but culture fit too. They actually passed on the OT from RI that got 20+ offers from big programs.

The process now involves open negotiations with collectives. No longer just a desire to transfer to another school. I would assume there's bidding, back and forth dialog on contract details and contract language. Lotta i's to dot and t's to cross these days.

This young man along with JL, the freshmen we’ve got coming in who could contribute some (particularly Matthews), and another year of development for our current db’s? Secondary could take a significant step forward next year.
Gibson is better than Matthews. Don’t let the rankings fool you

I’ll be glad to see both of them in orange.
No doubt. I was just saying not to overlook Gibson. Even if it is HS not allowing a single reception all year is insane and I’m pretty sure he ran a 4.3 at Georgia’s camp and has a 40 inch vertical. We’ve not had that kind of athleticism on our defense in a long time

This is the type of guy that could potentially dominate in our secondary. Big, strong, fast, physical, and smart. IMO, best pick up in the portal so far if ole miss mods are correct.
Yep, and he actually has the ability to play all 3 positions at a high level. Which is another bonus if Gibson, Matthews, and Beasley live up to expectations

If he comes here, I vote that we address him as Iggy from now on.

I agree. I also think they are trying to avoid guys who are going to be portal jumping every year and are only in it for the NIL dollars. That's just a guess on my part, but it seems to explain why they avoid some of the higher profile transfers.

Interesting.

Here’s a brief excerpt of their extended conversation.
Ben: So what was your reaction to the news Davison Igbinosun has transferred to Tennessee? There was some real hope Ole Miss would eventually get him back. What happened, in your opinion?

Chuck: I really don’t know because Ole Miss met his (NIL) asking price. He came back to the Grove Collective and said, ‘I want to come back, but here’s what I need because I feel like y’all have low-balled me.’ They hadn’t low-balled him; they gave him the going rate for cornerbacks as far as they knew.

They upped his NIL deal to what he asked for and he still split. Maybe Tennessee gave him more money; I don’t know. But it was certainly contradictory to what he was saying.

‘They’ll be OK’: Losing Davison Igbinosun stings, but the portal was kind to Ole Miss at cornerback

He's already in the UT directory
View attachment 533067

A staff member from a pay site I'm on explained this. Like a poster above mentioning Neyor last year who was in Tennessee's student directory but ended up choosing Texas, being added to the student directory can happen when an admittance application is sent in and approved by the University. Neyor, for instance, actually was on the student directory of 3 schools last year before he chose Texas. When it's coming down to cut-off dates, the student athlete has to get the paperwork out of the way if they are pushing the decision to the last minute.

That said, the pay site I'm referring to says that Tennessee leads and is the probable destination, but there's a few other possibilities in play still. Either way, the decision has to be made over the weekend and a public announcement is expected in the next few days.

Just reading between the lines, sounds like he's planning to come here, but until it's final, anyone can blow him up with a much bigger NIL deal and he could change his mind.

Fingers crossed.
