NJ CB Davison Igbinosun (Ole Miss commit)

How do we finish 2nd in his HS recruitment after going 7-6 then whiff on him again out of the portal after going 11-2 and beating Bama, Clemson, and LSU. Once again we have failed to land a stud defensive player in the portal. If it was because of NIL money though it’s on the fanbase. No reason whatsoever why we should only have just under 2,300 people donating to the volunteer club
And now that Heupel is making bank, you’d better believe these losses will start to bring out more criticism.

If the guy picks OSU I can’t blame him. At the end of the day he’s a ship jumper, dumping his old team.

Maybe he just doesn't like the fit with the coaches/players? Maybe the campus isn't his cup of tea? Maybe he didn't like Knoxville? Maybe he reads this forum and he doesn't like fans like you?

You know not everyone has to like TN right?

Could it merely be he’s good but not worth the money he is demanding? Sort of like in the NFL at times? Just asking.
this board often jumps all over people who just ask a question 😬
We do not, and how dare you make such a statement!!👀🤣

Seriously, welcome aboard.

Can’t imagine how a coaching staff can build / maintain a positive culture by adding portal guys receiving more NIL dollars than your current players receive. These are 18-23 year olds who are highly unlikely to keep their NIL arrangements confidential. Isn’t it likely the rest of your db room gets offended if you bring in a transfer who’s being compensated more highly? Rumors were something to that affect caused J. Banks to miss the SC game? Going to become increasingly difficult to maintain a position locker room if the NIL varies wildly amongst the starters. JMO

If you live and die by the transfer portal, this is what can happen in the the post NIL world. That's why his initial take in this thread was a bad take. You don't mistreat the players on the team when you think you might get a replacement. The key word being "might".

How can anyone be surprised with losing recruiting battles to Ohio St right now? Also, the kid is from up North

Jeremy Pruitt (surprisingly) had something intelligent to say in his time here about recruiting: "Don't worry about the ones we don't get."
It is time to settle in and focus on spring practice in a few weeks, we can take another gander at the portal after that.
This is good advice and will be good for my mental well being.
I will try to follow it. Not working yet. :)

I donate to the collective at the low monthly rate. It is the best I can do. My salary is the same it was in 2019 and my grocery bills have doubled.
It's tough out here.

If the kid doesn't love UT, let him go.
There will be another slate of CBs after spring practice.

Yeah that was part of the rumor. Him stepping on the 'T' and not doing the push-ups mixed with the NIL "discrepancy" probably added more fuel to it. Not sure if it was Hooker's NIL (Hooker earned his imo) or someone else's on the team that he was rumored to have an issue with.

Is there a current player in our secondary that is worth max NIL $'s?

See this is exactly why I loathe the "we need this kid" argument. You get over reactions like this.

To me it’s not about losing just this one. I agree in not over paying for players but at some point you have to be willing to pay what the big boys are to be one of them. ‘24 class will tell us how invested they are because they have to use the momentum from this year and load up.

We did land some big time transfers, but you’re only focusing on the ones we lost.
