NJ CB Davison Igbinosun (Ole Miss commit)

We did land some big time transfers, but you’re only focusing on the ones we lost.
I guess some of these goofballs think we ought to have 150 scholarship players.

Also, is there an actual indication that we were legitimately aggressively pursuing him?

A consensus 4-star TE? A consensus 4-star OT? A consensus 4-star DL?

Research before you roll in acting a fool.
I’m not the one calling people a fool. None of those are top 150. Thornton is the ONLY player that is “big time.” (#12) Unless, you just have an arbitrary meaning of “big time.”
They got some good players, but where UT ranks in the transfer portal speaks for itself.

A starting corner with an exceptionally high pff grade

Miami’s starting LT

BYU’s defensive captain
I hope they do well, but those schools weren’t great. The olinemen’s struggles are well documented. The two BYU guys seem solid, but I don’t see them as any big time get. The SEC plays at a different level. I think we have better talent on campus.

Top 150 in what?

Arbitrary my ass, look at yourself.

I’d posit that the meaning of “big time” is implicitly arbitrary. I don’t think there’s an agreed scientific standard.

He never visited us after entering the portal, so I don't know how serious either side really was.

This was my thought. I get the feeling we didn’t push that hard. I get the feeling this staff, specifically Heup is just the right amount of petty. And is like “you picked Ole Miss over us, we’ve moved on, added other guys, you missed your chance here and now you wanna come back.” — was Heup interested maybe, but wasn’t going to play the game so to speak.

Idk I just never felt we we’re interested here

I think we made contact to gauge his interest, but his top priority appeared to be NIL $$$. I feel like this staff will never take those type of players. NIL is part of the game now, but it's a matter of how much someone prioritizes it. If that is basically all a kid or his family wants to talk about, I think this staff chooses to move on.

You don't wanna be at the top transfer portal rankings. We don't need 15-20 transfers. We have a very good portal class that are positions of need. One more CB, back up QB and maybe DL guy is all we really need.

We landed one big time transfer: the receiver. None of the others are rated very high.
My thought differs. It's not going to be often that "big time" comes from the portal. I see it as a way to upgrade a position or fill holes. Just be more complete or a little better until some of your HS kids are ready to take over. I think we got some help, some experience, some depth. We got a little better....I hope. That's about all I can ask for when it comes to the portal.

Agreed. I just see people over hyping the portal and who UT got. Take Mitchell for example. These are the same people who were talking about him being Texas’ leading tackler. Turns out, the criticisms of his play at Texas were spot on. Just not very good.

The LB from BYU still appears to be an upgrade over Mitchell, and I’m sure they are looking for a more cerebral player as this team really lacked that on defense.

the tackle at Miami has some faults and i don’t see how he starts over Mincey or Crawford considering what those guys have already proven in this offense. Yes, you need depth, but I don’t see bringing in a one year guy, based on what you lose the following year.

They are looking at a complete OL rebuild after this year and I haven’t been overly impressed with their recruiting at that position. As bad as it’s been here, Heupel inherited a nice bunch of talented olinemen. Better than he’s ever had as a head coach. I don’t see them recruiting to maintain that level of player. Carvin, Spraggins, Wright, are better than what they’ve signed. Nichols is the only linemen that really looks top shelf.

Next year, you could literally have to replace all 5 starters, and when you look at the roster it doesn’t exactly make me you confident. That is where elite programs sustain success. Recruit quality linemen, develop and plug and play.

Right? Lol born in Indiana, live in WI, my favorite state is Tennessee and been there so many times and the people are amazing…
but dang on this board southern hospitality goes out the door for some 😂
Sorry, man, about our lapses in hospitality. But just know that some of us do pull for Indiana or Wisconsin or any other Big 10 team to beat Michigan and that alternative OSU.

You just joined in December, and I'm wondering if you've made a single positive post about Tennessee? Just curious, everything I've seen is doom and gloom.
