To be fair you don’t have to go out of Georgia to land elite players. I don’t think it’s unfair to say we’ve swung some and missed but at the same time I also don’t think it’s fair to say this kid isn’t a good prospect.Weird that he didn’t offer him while he was at Georgia.
I mean, I’m just saying - the kid is in syracuses back yard and is the kind of prospect you’d expect Syracuse to sign.
Ah yes yet another TN recruit that “fell through the cracks.”I am a film watcher not a star gazer. Not sure why this kid fell through the cracks of services but he did. His film is very good has the tools to plat at SEC Level one day. I know what Coaches also saw on this Kids Film so lets get to know him. Yes TN DL Targets have committed to other schools and had we committed our share we would not be in conversation with him because we would not be looking. Now that doesn't mean kid is not a take again his film says he is all day long at SEC level. So many opinions right now are correct. In CHRIST Alone.
-VQTennessee will host New Jersey defensive lineman Maraad Watson for an official visit this weekend. His in-home with Josh Heupel and Rodney Garner went very well early in the week, and the Vols will look to build on that over the weekend, as Watson intends to sign during the early period as it stands. This one will come down to choosing between the lure of playing in the SEC or staying closer to home and playing for Syracuse.
Not enough stars, don’t care that his coach describes how versatile he is and James F noticed his play.Per NJ.com, Watson had 22 TFL (including 15 sacks) and 2 forced fumbles in just 7 games this year.
October 9: When Penn State [head coach] James Franklin sat in the stands at Montclair High School on Saturday scouting four-star Irvington safety Vaboue Toure, a 6-foot-1, 190-pounder who committed to Penn State on June 16, he noticed two players who he hadn’t seen before in Blue Knights uniforms that piqued his interest. “Franklin was at the game and asked me, ‘Who the hell are No. 54 and No. 8?” Irvington coach Ashley Pierre said while imitating the Nittany Lions’ head coach...
Their names are Maraad Watson and Jahide Lesaine — to answer Franklin’s question — senior qualifiers who transferred this summer to Irvington, where they are legacies, following three years at Immaculate conception in Montclair, where they were under-recruited. Guys who Pierre says have FBS size, demeanor, are dominant, and eligible to graduate in December and land in a college football training camp in January. Their skills were refined by Irvington defensive line coach Nhemie Theodore, who has prepped countless bigs for college.
“I love their approach to work everyday,” said Pierre, who says his defense has played lights-out despite the team’s offensive struggles this year. “It’s all business. They came into our program with the under-recruited, sleeper mentality from day one. They felt like no one knew who they were and wanted to prove to everyone that they are two of the best players in New Jersey.” Both have proven just that.
Standing 6-foot-4, and 285 pounds, Watson plays fast, hard and is a handful. He has great twitch for a player so large, upper body strength, skilled hands, a strong motor and the will and speed to chase plays down outside of the tackle box. Oh, and he can rush the passer from the interior, too. Toledo and Akron have offered, but others haven’t caught on. “He purses relentlessly every play,” Pierre said. “He chases the ball with a purpose and has put offensive linemen through hell each week.”
2024 N.J. FBS talent you should know: Irvington DT Maraad Watson & DE Jahide Lesaine
Possibly took that long, yes. There are tens of thousands of HS football players in the country and NJ is not a market that SEC schools spend a ton of time combing through. If we end up getting him and he ends up being solid, who really cares if we found him 5 minutes ago or 5 years ago?So this guy is gonna be another Verse? Cool. I wonder why it took us so long to offer him? Guess it took that long to evaluate his film?
