'25 NJ OT Jaelyn Matthews (Rutgers commit)

I know some of you don’t put much stock in what the VQ guys have to say, but to me their most recent OL update makes a lot of sense. Here it is for anyone interested:

We mentioned in the War Room a couple of weeks ago about the young offensive linemen benefitting from being thrown into the fire in the spring. All those young guys benefitted from the work they got. Maybe no one more than Jesse Perry whose biggest improvement came in pass protection. Perry made real strides in that area in spring and is carrying more confidence into the summer.

Some of that confidence comes from simply getting bigger and stronger. Perry was listed around 275 pounds when he signed. He’s now over 300 pounds. He’s a guy that won over the coaching staff in summer camp before his senior year and landed an offer. There’s some real vibes that evaluation is going to pay off for the Vols.

Tennessee has taken a long hard look at their offensive line numbers exiting spring practice. After seeing what Gage Ginther, Jesse Perry and others showed during spring, and having loved how Bennett Warren and Jeremias Heard showed up physically a couple of weeks ago, we expect Tennessee to focus more on interior lineman for this class over tackle.

Don’t get me wrong, Petty, Sanders and Juan Gaston are big names that Tennessee is going to swing hard for, but much of the focus is going to be on the interior. Basically the tackle spot is a ‘go big or go home’ approach with the previous three we mentioned.

Just means DT recruiting this class including the portal next offseason is and will be priority #1.

This recruitment is ever-changing.
Spoke with some sources today and a lot of people are speculating that this will end with Matthews committing to Rutgers on the 11th.

Matthews has only taken one OV and that was to Rutgers, he cancelled the other ones and plus I’ve talked with insiders at all three of his finalists and not one of them expects the school they cover to land him. Best guess right now is Rutgers, but regardless this one won’t be over until signing day.

Stay tuned as we will continue to continue to update you as we learn more.

Seaton 2.0, seems there's one in every class. After the Penn State and UGA situations, Piscataway is about as good as he'll get.

Not quite. Seaton was a true head case with a ton of talent. Matthews has talent but seems to be a huge project. Rutgers would easily get out bid if it were strictly NIL.

Man this guys stock really dropped. Almost got told no by Rutgers after being a psu commit and looking like he may wind up here.

I admire your commitment to your state team but pity your judgment. Remember us when you enter the portal, Jaelyn.
