NLDS: Braves vs. Giants

I sort of feel sorry for any Braves fan who missed out on Pascual Perez and Rick Mahler and Bruce Benedict and Rafael Ramirez and all those guys. It's like being a Bulls fan who's too young to remember the Jordan era, only the exact opposite.
Biff Pocoroba

Damon Berryhill.

Nevermind. He was there in 91. Thought it was before that.

Hey, how'd Joey Votto do in the playoffs? Guy's an MVP candidate in the prime of his career, he must have ripped it up, right?
The post had nothing to do about the Reds, but I will be the first to say that Votto and everyone of the Reds played like ****.

Just saying that Heyward can't play like that if the Braves were going to make any noise.

It's disappointing, but it's not exactly like you couldn't see it coming when Chipper got hurt and Prado got hurt and they had to start bringing up pitchers to make their first ML starts ever in the middle of the pennant race. There's not enough luck in the world to have made that patchwork roster win the title this year.

Please. According to you that Prado guy is a bum and guys like him are a dime a dozen. I think it was "waiter" that you called him.

How'd that highest team OBP help you guys in the playoffs? That was your favorite stat but what happened when you guys faced good pitching everynight and they came right at you guys which didn't allow your hitters to take pitches? Basically happened exactly how I said it would.

Well no kidding. That's why a lot of us looked at this lineup in midsummer and predicted that they couldn't win in the postseason with an old guy, a catcher and a rookie as the run producers. And then they lost the old guy. As I said up above, Heyward seemed to hit the wall several weeks ago; his bat slowed down and he hasn't hit much since. Not that surprising from a 20 year old playing a month and a half later than he ever has before.

Just seemed weird for a Reds fan to come in this thread calling out Heyward when Triple Crown-chasing Joey Votto still hasn't pried his fingers from around his own throat yet.

For God's sake, if you're going to reply to my posts, then please actually read them. All I said about Prado that got your VJ so bruised to begin with is that he's not the kind of player around whom you can really build a championship offense. He's a nice piece, not part of the motor. That's hardly the same thing as calling him a bum. The reason why Prado's injury hurt so much was not OH MY GOD WE LOST THE BAT OF THE IMMORTAL MARTIN PRADO!!!, but that it was the second injury to a starting infielder in just a few weeks, forcing the Braves to reach way down the bench and start a career minor leaguer in the playoffs in October. And you see how that worked out.

As far as OBP goes -- this just isn't the same team that we were having that discussion about two or three months ago. It's a whole lot more about that than it was the Giants coming right at them. The Braves stopped hitting four weeks ago. The series against the Giants was just more of what's been happening for a month, not some mystical baseball's-completely-different-in-the-playoffs thing. If you had come in here a week ago and asked me how I felt about the Braves' OBP vs the Giants' pitching, I would have said "What OBP?" The Braves hit like a whole team of Melky Cabreras down the stretch.

Dude, you really think the "lineups" the Braves fielded were league leading in OBP?

Please don't argue just for the sake of arguing. At least the Braves won a damn game.

Reds fans have absolutely ZERO room to talk. They had the worst OBP and slugging in the history of playoff baseball.

I love that you clowns bring up the Reds like I have somehow defended their abysmal performance against the Phillies somewhere. Great stuff.

Keep it up.

Only a clown would use this team as ammo for an argument. The current team fielded by Braves is a shell of the team that at one point lead the league in OBP.

To use one that has Brooks Conrad at 2b as proof is counter productive.

So are you a Braves fan or a Yankees fan?
