No “God Bless the USA,” “In God We Trust,” on school posters.

Who said I can't handle it? I like the discussion which is why I'm here. I'm trying to understand you, not mock you like it appears you like to do to my faith.

I'm simply asking why you are so eager to jump into religious topics to try and prove everyone wrong if religion and God is something you find worthless?

Well, I've answered the question. What's the next one?

And I am not mocking your faith, I am questioning it. I can assure you that if you were Muslim I would be doing the same thing. Contrary to what you may think, I have nothing against Christianity in particular (or you for that matter), just in religious dogma in general. I am an equal opportunity heretic.

Think of all the reasons you find the beliefs of other religions without merit, and I bet there is significant overlap with the reasons I find much of the Christian tradition without merit. We are all atheists with respect to someone's God, I just take it one God further than you do.

Fair enough, but it just seems odd that society get upset with sweeping generalizations yet that is what you do when discussing religion.

I mean I put my faith in Jesus Christ therefore I am a Christian but that doesn't mean i put my head in the sand and follow blindly.

The only reason I find them without merit is because I believe Jesus is the way, the truth and life and no one comes to the Father but through Him.

God to an extent is a general term. Muslims, Christians and Jews believe in the same God, we just don't agree on how you get to Him.

Tradition is meaningless if it's meaning is lost. To an extent I could care less about tradition. I'm far more interested in where I call home when I die.

I don't want to interrupt your conversation but I might take issue with the claim of Islam to believe in the Judeo/Christian God, although they may make that assertion, a good argument can be made that Muhammed was quite inconsistent in what he chose to incorporate and what he chose to ignore about the Book.

The main thing is what about the first amendment rights of the students to begin with??

Although personal salvation is paramount, protecting traditions is also important, remember the call of the secular humanists; "for our movement to succeed, we must destroy the Judeo/Christian tradition."

I notice OE is still medicating, does anyone know of a good LSD interdiction program we can contact???

All three of the world's major religions are plagiarized from one another, and even Judeo myths, to a certain extent, are plagiarized from other near and far east traditions.

nope, just plain moron

Judaism and Christianity take nothing from islam.

And when you say 'three of the world's major religions', don't forget atheistic socialism which takes on a religious like faith itself among it's adherents.

The Hebrews did indeed take on some of the aspects of the teachings of Zoroaster, and the teachings of Jesus are quite similar to some Taoist teachings, who said they got their wisdom from immortals, that's why I asked you earlier about what you thought of some of those teachings, but go no response.

rjd, I was thinking about this last night and wanted your thoughts. When one thinks about all the factors and things that had to happen and not happen for you to born, how can you not believe in a super natural purpose for your life and you being here?

Your ancestors on both sides of your family had to survive famines, natural disasters, disease, countless wars, traveling to the new world, each ancestor choosing the "right" person over thousands of years in order to create you and on and on.

How is it possible that you just happened?

To entertain this thought, you have to work under the assumption that it was planned out for me to get here in the first place. While it is not as comforting or reassuring, nobody is special and life is more cruel and capricious than we realize.

I mean, why would some kid born in Darfur end up the way he did? Did his ancestors survive famines, natural disasters, disease, countless wars, and sheer luck of "right" persons mating over generations, only to die of starvation 6 months after he was born?

I understand that your faith requires that we all have a purpose here, and that's fine if it works for you. But to me, I have no problem seeing it as a combination of luck and accident that I am here to begin with. This doesn't mean I can't have deeply spiritual and trasformative experiences, it just means that I don't believe it is part of any pre-ordained "plan" of some sort.

I think it is far easier to make this leap of knowledge than it is to attribute everything to a plan. Just my opinion.

Interesting.
I don't however believe in predestination though. Also I would never think I have the answers I just don't know any atheists personally so I'm just curious so I thought I would ask.

I fully believe one can waist one's life. I am honestly still trying to find my passion in life if you will.

Free will. We have the ability to seek and accept God, or deny Him as you have chosen. As a believer, I don't believe it is God's plan for you to deny Him. One has the ability at any moment to drastically alter their life.

It's a great discussion that I enjoy.

I'm curious though what the chances are of you being born? I would imagine I have a better chance at walking across the interstate and surviving.

i find it very disturbing to think it was predetermined i would post on volnation.

Silly Jesuit, There is always a right way and a wrong way to proceed: Two Jesuit novices both wanted a cigarette while they prayed. They decided to ask their superior for permission. The first asked, but was told no. A little while later he spotted his friend smoking. "Why did the superior allow you to smoke, but not me?" he asked. His friend replied, "Because you asked if you could smoke while you prayed, and I asked if I could pray while I smoked!"

Not to sound facetious, but what are the chances of anybody being born? Why personalize it?
