No Longer Have Best Facilities

We still have the best Facilities in the country because ours are in Tennessee! A fact that most seem to overlook. Oregons will probably be used alot more, being everyone will be inside due to all the rain they get. Alabama well........ the only good thing in Alabama is the Tennessee River. That's about it, this thing is settled, we have the best, got it! NOW GO TO YOUR ROOM! Opps sorry! Did I just type that? IT'S FOOTBALL TIME IN TENNESSEE! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!

I find all of this to be so ridiculous. What about facilities for other athletes and sports? I get that football is the cash cow, but how can this not be considered discriminatory? NFL facilities don't even come close to the types of facilities that Oregon, AL, or we have...it all seems so frivolous to me.

I'll agree money going into athletic facilities is overwhelming. Oregon is just going over the top and I don't think they are finished yet. Outside of football they've added a $250 million basketball arena, $15 million baseball stadium, new soccer fields etc. Plus, Hayward Field will always be the most loved athletic facility at Oregon, certain the most tradition and history. No other place in America can compare to Hayward Field. It's Mecca for track athletes.

Lots of good points in your post. Just a couple things to add from my perspective. I'm not a great athlete, and out of HS I was recruited to play bball at a very small college (800 students), I had a "breakout" game about the fifth game of the season, 15 points, 4 steals, 6 assists and became a starter. The next day, I had a job I wasn't looking for, paid very nice, didn't have to do much, studied on the job most days. I couldn't buy a meal in the local restaurants, someone was always paying my bill before I got it. etc. Point is I can't imagine the benefits a real athlete gets at a school with a serious program.

One thing I do like at Oregon is that 50% of all revenues from the sale of "Duck gear" go to academics. Plus, Phil Knight has made several very nice contributions to academics in addition to the obvious athletic facilities. There's the Knight Library and the Knight Law School.

Off subject, but only way I know to ask you. What do you know about Conner Humphries the DL from Oregon? Is he a Oregon St. fan, and that is why he was not offered by Oregon? Where do you think he goes?

What a freaking waste of money. Anyone care to tell me how this is relevant to football? Is this what it's become?

How freaking trivial.

Pathetic. :bad:

I posted about Connor in another thread. Truth... I don't know. Speculation, Oregon signed Jalen Jelks 6'7" 250# with a ton of upside. Sometimes in Oregon it comes down to culture and family ties in recruiting. Oregon is the university for professional majors such as business, law, architecture, premed, journalism etc. Oregon state is aggie and engineering. That could play into it as well. Just two very different universities 42 miles apart that don't like each other much.... LOL

Could be the shoulder injury Connor had, although that should be a non issue.

The only thing that really stood out to me as being a difference maker for recruits is Bama's wall of first round draft picks during the Saban era. That was cool. I would like to see us with a showing off Manning, Berry, Williams, Patterson, and of course everyone else. Remind recruits that we have as many NFL guys as anyone else, and certainly more than someone like Oregon.

I think we have a "players in the NFL" wall but yeah, that IS a cool idea to have the actual NFL jerseys displayed like that.

I totally agree. Perhaps waiting until all details/graphics/etc are complete. Our program has done a tremendous (and obviously deliberate) job of keeping a continuous flow of media to make our program appealing to potential recruits. The media sharing of the new facilities is the elephant in the room they have seemingly neglected to promote. Maybe it's their way of "luring" recruits to visit so they can see them in person. I trust that Butch & Co. realize all of this and have a plan. GBO #risetothetop

Nobody cares about Adidas, for starters.

I'm not sure that a wall of first round picks during the current staff's tenure is quite the same as a wall of first round picks that the current staff might have spoken to a few times.

I think we have the better locker rooms. Oregon probably takes nearly every other category. But the differences are marginal at best. All three facilities are top-notch. Most of the differences are aesthetic.

If they're currently in the NFL and recognizable to 17year olds, who cares?

I'm not saying don't do it. Heck, out new facility has a huge mural that features Don Hutson and Lee Roy Jordan amongst others who are long-retired or long-dead.

But, the conversation is certainly different:

"Son, these are the guys we coached and turned into first round draft picks."

or

"Son, these are first round draft picks who played at this school."

Not saying they can't both be effective. But I think one is probably more effective than the other.
