No More "Boy" Scouts

Of course you did.

Sheep won't file a complaint against you.

Funny man.

We did a lot of the stuff the BSA did, camping, fishing ext but since most of the kids in my group were from dairy farms most activities were centered around that. Plus we had girls, I couldn't believe our parents thought it a good idea to leave a bunch of teenagers alone to spend the night in the barns at fairs.

It's not hard to persuade carnies to buy you booze.

I never participated in it growing up, I definitely remember my parents asking if I wanted to join BSA sometime in elementary school, I just wasn't really interested. Based off of what I'm seeing on my Facebook of people who did, the response is positive, overall. Maybe it's being of an age where many of my friends have little girls now, and they want them to be able to go camping and learn to build fires, etc. like they did, but can't. General consensus I've seen is that there just aren't enough Girl Scout troops that do outdoor and adventurous things anymore, too much focus on selling cookies.

In case one wants to know the extent of the changes

Minor changes on the inside, however, I don't think it's going to drive new membership. Which is ultimately what they are pushing for with the "all inclusive, all new Scouting."

They would have been better off trying to merge with the Girl Scouts as had been discussed a few times over their history. Neither side wanted to budge on their principles nor give up the executive authority though.

Maybe, maybe not. Being more inclusive shouldn't hurt.

The girl scouts is sales force that has sleep overs, it's different in almost every way. The GS has far more to lose in this deal, especially ones who have siblings in the Scouts. Mom and Dad will be able to consolidate while their daughter learns more and has a better time.

The girls that join the scouts will be doing and maintaining the same advancement requirements as are currently in place. Those requirements, by the way, have gotten far more difficult in the last couple of years.

Why does anyone care? Maybe the high school scouts that wear their uniform to school will have some chicks around who like men in "uniform."

Advancement requirements will be lightened over time as girl enrollment increases.

I can't wait to see the amendments to these:

On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

A Scout is:

TRUSTWORTHY. Tell the truth and keep promises. People can depend on you.

LOYAL. Show that you care about your family, friends, Scout leaders, school, and country.

HELPFUL. Volunteer to help others without expecting a reward.

FRIENDLY. Be a friend to everyone, even people who are very different from you.

COURTEOUS. Be polite to everyone and always use good manners.

KIND. Treat others as you want to be treated . Never harm or kill any living thing without good reason.

OBEDIENT. Follow the rules of your family, school, and pack. Obey the laws of your community and country.

CHEERFUL. Look for the bright side of life. Cheerfully do tasks that come your way. Try to help others be happy.

THRIFTY. Work to pay your own way. Try not to be wasteful. Use time, food, supplies, and natural resources wisely.

BRAVE. Face difficult situations even when you feel afraid. Do what you think is right despite what others might be doing or saying.

CLEAN. Keep your body and mind fit . Help keep your home and community clean.

REVERENT. Be reverent toward God. Be faithful in your religious duties. Respect the beliefs of others.

Are females not capable of these attributes? Can you elaborate on why you'd think they'd change?

Liberalism will destroy about half of what scouting was about. It already has hurt it. I only made it to "Life". I have worked with Eagles that have said they will stop contributing to the scouts because of the dilution of values they have seen. I know you don't agree and frankly I don't care, but it is a fact that the values have been watered down. Just like the military accommodating weaker women, obese soldiers etc etc etc....

Please elaborate on which half allowing women will destroy. IMO, it will just make the getting laid badge that much easier to attain.

You dodged my question.

Which of the 12 points of the Scout Law are females incapable of?

Got my Eagle 29 years ago. We did several things that most young ladies (14+) would not enjoy. Came home smelly and dirty. Regional campouts had a mental challenge and a physical challenge theme. Additionally, State and National Camps (Boxwell in Lebanon, TN & Philmont in NM , for example, didn't have coed facilities.

Nice.

It's not for everyone, camping isn't clean.

You did Philmont? We're on for a 10 day next year.

No. We never did.

Dad went with some Scoutmaster buddies about 15 years before he passed. It was a bucket list item.

Its great youve scheduled Philmont. Lifetime memories from what i hear.

Holistically, this isn’t about girls going camping and experiencing intrepid ventures, it’s about fomenting change. What better way to confuse an already cerebrally depleted society than to hold independent industries under the thumb of capri wearing soy boys?

How many genders are we up to now?

Moore’s law of transistors on ICs would apply here, only that the number of dumbasses in society doubles in less time.

Not one cogent argument against allowing girls into the scouts in this thread. Just more of the chicken little the sky is falling garbage.

Yeah, but I had a female trail guide at Philmont.

I will try. It’s quite simple.

Since the title is Boy Scouts, the members should be boys.

If your car runs off gas, you don’t put diesel in the tank.
