because the government could force me or any business to advertise or promote topics they may disagree on. A church promoting its website would have to allow an opposite view or advertisement that it doesn't agree with on its webpage. they either comply or their page will be shut down.

surely you realize that once a government gets its hand in something, they never stop

what the hell are you talking about?

What about me JTrain? I don't watch/listen to Beck, yet I worry about some of PBO's policies. Am I just an idiot too? I shouldn't worry myself with all the "gubment stuff" should I? You're right! I should just trust that they've got our best interest @ heart. Ha.

I wouldn't say you're an idiot as it's fine to be wary of gov't intervention. However, I might call you one if you were as far off base as the OP is. I'm honestly not even sure what he's talking about anymore

Do you guys read anything, or just respond? For cripes sake, I'm not in line with Obama in about anything. But open discrimination on a matter that people have no choice in should not be enforced by the Federal Government.

liberals are just wimpy socialists. of course they're not going to be as agressive as your boy chavez would be. the government will take small steps just like they do with everthing and sheep like you will have no clue what they do.

You seem to instantly label anyone smart enough to disagree with you a liberal.

I guess I'd rather be a liberal than a backwards moron whose greatest feat in life was a role as an extra in Deliverance.

Never done that to me. I do think of some of our FF's warnings when reading some of this BS. (Legislation ranging from 01- present)

Damnit. I told that fat chick from the FCC at the last cocktail party over at Hugo's house not to let the cat out of the bag on this. What happens at a Socialist Party party stays at the Socialist Party party.

You guys would love it, though. At the last one, we smoked some doobage and had a seance and Keith Olbermann did this funny thing where he pretended to channel Karl Marx speaking in Portugese. It was so hilarious that Putin peed his pants.

Then Michelle O led us all in a rousing game of Twister. Seeing Barrack Hussein bent over John Lennon (he is alive, you know -- lives with Kennedy in a Brownstone in Georgetown, near the secret hiding place of Barrack's Kenyan birth certificate) was the cat's pajamas. Hope someone got a pic for the Socialist Party party next month.

If I am reading this correctly (as I've not really followed it), is this basically not the FCC saying they are going to regulate the Comcasts, ATT's and other internet providers of America w/out Congressional approval?

Thats exactly what is says, unless you read it as joevols does and believe it is a conspiracy for the "govenant" to control the internet and what is said on the internet.

Which, if they were, you wouldn't have been allowed to post that. So obviously they aren't.

Don't really agree regulation is needed, but I don't think this is a China/Iranian attempt to control what happens on the net.

All kidding aside, could someone who doesn't seem to mind the concept of net neutrality explain why they don't think it's a bad thing?

To me, it sounds just as stifling and insidious as the fairness doctrine.

I don't necessarily like the way it's being done but I agree with the idea.

We don't need the service providers setting up toll booths for the people providing content to users. For example, Comcast limiting VOIP/Netflix to push their own voice/VOD service. And with the way it's setup now I can't just jump to the next guy if I don't agree with their practices.

and I just don't see the comparison to the Fairness doctrine unless stations are currently preventing left-wing shows from getting on the air

from the little I know about it - this sums up my feelings as well.

I do get a little nervous anytime the government attempts to define and enforce "fairness" or "neutrality"

I'm sure this piece was written from at least a somewhat biased perspective but it certainly seemed to paint the FCC operating in a fairly rogue manner. Not comforting...don't care much for my Alpha Bits getting delusions of grandeur; FCC/ATF/IRS/etc.

Net Neutraility seems to change definitions as well. I remember when all the open source types were howling because they wanted to throttle the bandwidth for those torrenting. Now it seems the other side is now barking. Anyone have a link to the actual current iteration? (not someone's view of it)

The Comcast/L3 situation has been entirely misrepresented by L3 and the Net Neutrality crowd. If I didn't think it would bore everyone to death I'd go into some of it.

of course it changes. oblabla changes to whatever will get it rammed through.

this marxist regime is using this to control the internet. this is the 1st step. they are forcing internet companies to keep from adjusting their charges for bandwidth and internet use.

maybe, maybe not. Comcast is still trying to charge a service like Netflix (albeit indirectly) for content their users requested which makes their content look more attractive

Eh while I do not want the government to have it's hand in any media related cookie jar at all, this has become one of those issues where the truth will never be quite known as you have alarmists on both ends trying their best to make their angle sound the most appealing. As the way the debate was formed two years ago, I was pretty much on the side of those who were for it, now I'm finding myself on the opposite side.
