If you ask me Tennessee is 100% set at the guard spot for the foreseeable future. Loaded with the talent coming in plus Boyd, Whitehorn, and Cooper.
Talent that has competed with several former highly ranked P4 freshmen and sophomores in WBB.
I don’t think Coach Caldwell, Coach Lazo, and Coach Tubner will put their time and resources in adding this player if they entered the portal.
I believe the focus in the portal will be frontcourt, defense, and rebounding.

Nothing wrong with you having an opinion. For this team and the players on the roster it is not happening.
The staff will add players in positions of need (guard is not a need no matter who enters the portal) if no returning guard at TN enters the portal to complete the roster.
The trio of possible returning guards heading into the 2025-2026 season Boyd, Cooper, and Whitehorn fit this system perfectly.
Cooper is as good as any player that I’ve seen in WBB so far this season.
The staff is not going to mess with the chemistry and the incoming Top 2 recruiting class by just adding players they don’t need.

With the class coming in I think we take 1 guard and 1 center from the portal. We need better 3 point shooters and a player like Berry fills that need. Too many slow shots on our team right now. Gotta have a quicker release player that is accurate.

Darby and Puckett need 3-5 business days to load up their shot.

Listen, I’ll take those 3-5 business days, because that’s when they’re the most accurate! Lmao! I think that’s why Sara got off to such a slow start this year shooting 3s, she was trying to rush her shots, same with Tess, but more so Sara.

Tess actually quickened her trigger last year, so hopefully it becomes a little more accurate as the season goes on. I agree though, good guards like Berry and Cambridge get in the portal and want to come to UT, you don’t turn them down, sorry! 🥴

Deniya Prawl, Mia and Mya Pauldo, Jaida Civil, Lauren Hurst are all good three point shooters.
You are comparing Berry to players that are graduating and not the incoming class.
As I’ve said, all of the incoming players have competed against several of the top underclassmen on the P4 level currently in WBB and had success.
Our 2025 class as sophomores and juniors in HS now entering their senior season have won at an incredible rate on the HS level and will be joining a system in college that fits their skillset.
They will thrive.
I just don’t see the coaching staff focusing on taking a player from the portal when they can develop and grow an equal or better talent for years out of HS in addition to Cooper and Boyd who have multiple years to play in their system.
That is what our fanbase asked for year after year and that time has finally come.
The focus will be on frontcourt, defense, and rebounding.
And if they add a player folks are asking for don’t be surprised if that player is on the bench.
These incoming players are coming from Nationally Ranked high school programs.
They will be college ready.

Yes but again, I don’t see how adding another knock down shooter is a bad thing. Especially the way she likes to press. All hypotheticals but this day and age if there is a good player you take them.

Do guarantees with the portal, injuries etc

Really questionable coaching from Fernandez at South Florida to finish their game against Louisville. Took the lead with under a minute to play.

Only had one team foul and went on to let Louisville take a wide open layup. Then didn’t use his timeout on the next possession down 1 with 20 seconds to go to get a quality look. Louisville jumped the guard and forced a scramble and they never got another good look at the basket.

Gave that one away to a Louisville team that had just blown a reasonable lead. Neither team looked good.

Look I wish them all well but hopefully they remain at their current schools or find a home elsewhere.
You take players that will complete your roster.
I don’t see how either completes the roster.
You can’t prepare for or anticipate injuries.
So either way adding signees via the portal or high school aren’t a guarantee we both agree on that.
I believe with the players returning and the incoming consensus Top 2 recruiting class loaded with 5⭐️&4⭐️ talent in both guard positions you search for balance to add to the mix.
Several players had a chance in recent years to join the LVs and thought they had something better where they went. This staff is selecting players that from Day 1 want to be a Lady Vol. Elite player after elite player has answered the call from Day 1 in the last 7 months to be a Lady Vol.

I don’t get why you assume it’s turning down talent when projecting the LV 2025-2026 returnees and incoming Top 2 consensus recruiting class including five 5⭐️&4⭐️ guards.
They don’t need the players. The Baltimore Ravens have Lamar Jackson if Patrick Mahomes was a free agent he isn’t going to Baltimore.
The Philadelphia Eagles have Jalen Hurts they weren’t drafting Jayden Daniels.
The Buffalo Bills have Josh Allen they weren’t interested in trading for the number 1 pick to draft Caleb Williams.
It’s that simple. They have the talent in the guard positions that they need.
If that changes for any reason , then we’ll see.
This is about building a basketball team.

We do need one really good mobile post to go along with Zee and Lauren for next season. Someone who can bang with a traditional big when needed would be nice. Not much to either of those young ladies lol.

Anyway, peace to all, and yes I have been as excited about this version of the LV team as all of you so far this season. But back to NON LV news, I am as nervous about this SC vs UCLA game as any in awhile, for good reason. I hope CDS plays Fulwiley extended minutes to let her get going fully today.

That’s what it’s for. I was point out a couple non-Lady Vols I suspect will be in the portal and would be good pickups for any team.

You’ve been around long enough to know nobody is changing my mind around here. I’ll admit when I’m dead wrong. But if we’re just talking opinions you aren’t going to convince me to change mine.

But yeah, the success of the thread seems to be taking posts away from the LV thread about things strictly related to the LV’s. Just an observation. And yes, I am in a bad mood after the ND beat down of Army last night, excuse me if I seem out of sorts 09. I have learned to roll with the punches however, it’s all good.

It might be a diff story if we lose to Navy however….that could send me into hibernation lol.
