Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2023-24

Geno spoke at the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce breakfast on Monday morning. This is an annual event for Geno, always a few days before the NCAA tournament. During the Q & A Geno mentioned that he has 2 commits from the class of 2022 and expects 1 or 2 more. Boneyard is expecting it to be Ayanna.
great....just great

Well, he may have had a fever when he was speaking.

Hopefully, no one got too close during the engagement. And hoping he doesn't have severe reaction to Covid. Wonder if he'd received the vaccine before exposure?

I swear to God...how many more top players is he gonna rack up? But...it is the Boneyard. They aren't exactly the model of impartial analysis.
Facts, I just wonder where he plans to play her or where he told her he would play her. From what I have read/seen she wants to play more of the 3 than the 4. Would he use her like he used Napheesha, like he used Gabby, or like he used Tuck, or like he is currently using Griffin! Her lack of 3pt shooting (she doesn't do it much) and she is often looking to get to the basket rather than taking the 10/15 footer, will make it very interesting. She could be great there or she could not be a fit like Samarie Walker.

I think he will leave it to her to earn playing time at the 3. Otherwise, he would put her where her skillset works.

It reminds of of A'ja Wilson when she first came to SC and would call herself a guard even though she had no handle or a consistent jumper. And Dawn's like, "get your ass in the paint!". And here she is some 8 years later and she's still in the paint in the WNBA. It's great that Ayanna wants to play the 3, but she needs to make sure she has the skillset to excel there first.

All hypothetical of course, because I'm working on jinxing UConn to make sure they don't get her.

From what I've read,

- He's asymptomatic, and has had two negative tests since the original positive test.
- The talk he gave was on Zoom.
- He was getting his second shot when he was exposed to the virus.

He is as quiet as Kellie about offers, so we won't know who the other commit is until the recruit announces it.

3 SEC coaches weren't going to make that list. IMO, Joni gets the nod over Kellie with her run to the SECT final.

What amazes me is that Brenda is not on this list.
Yes I am not a big fan of Brenda but what she has done this year should definitely be rewarded. I don't think anyone saw her team being where they would be after the transfers they had leave.

Yup...lost 5 of her 6 top scorers and all of her post players, plugs gaps with 3 transfers (including 2 last minute additions) but still has no posts, loses her prize freshman to injury for 3/4 of the season, and only manages to execute the prettiest offense in the nation.

She would be my hands down winner, and I think Blair is great.

Oklahoma women's basketball coach Sherri Coale retires after 25 seasons

Oklahoma women's basketball coach Sherri Coale, who led the Sooners to three Women's Final Four appearances and won six Big 12 regular-season titles, announced her retirement Wednesday.

Coale, 56, has been the Sooners' coach since the 1996-97 season, leading OU to four conference tournament titles. The team, using primarily a seven-player rotation, finished 12-12 this season.

his style is not to ever promise a recruit minutes or position. But my guess is that looking at the roster she might think she would only have to beat out Caroline Ducharme for some minutes at the 3.

This is where the protocol becomes illogical. He has been tested every day and all were negative. He is asymptomatic and has had two negatives since the positive. What ever happened to having a false positive test, but no. you have to disrupt your life because of an incorrect test.

ESPN hates Geno.

I understand your frustration. Bear in mind that there are also false negative test results. He seems to really care about his players, including their health, and they seem to return the sentiment. Better safe than sorry for all concerned. Your Associate Head Coach is well qualified to step in for the early rounds.

Schools and coaches can't mention non-signed players/commits by name. They can only talk about them after they are signed.

The exact quote from a poster was this - "During the Q & A Geno mentioned that he has 2 commits from the class of 2022 and expects 1 or 2 more. We know Ice Brady is one of the commits but we don't know yet who is the 2nd commit. Timing suggests it may be Patterson -- UConn is one of 5 finalists and she announces on Saturday -- but we don't really know for sure."

My understanding on Geno's covid positive was he got the positive result and immediately tested again and it was another positive. So the presumption was it was an accurate read. He is about a week past his second shot at this point for the vaccination, so presumption would be he would have a very mild infection.

The latest news is that Shea Ralph one of the Uconn assistant coaches has left the team site in San Antonio because though she has tested negative for the past week, someone in her family has tested positive and she is taking no chances of being around the team. I believe they are all in isolation anyway as part of the NCAA protocol until later this week.

It is scary to think the NCAA could turn into a mess if teams aren't really careful. Missouri St pulled out of their conference semifinals because two of the other teams involved had reported Tier 1 personnel covid positive tests and they didn't want to blow their chance at the NCAAs by playing against those teams.
