Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2023-24

Oh! And Dawn's blaming a loss on the basketballs got topped tonight. Baylor's new coach Collen's postgame rant/whine set a record low for blaming refs (if she were in the PAC12or SEC she'd be fined) while wrapping herself in piety for allowing the game to start late. Seems the Okie's bus hit some weather and they arrived late. Overall, it was far worse than a Holly Idon'tKnow-athon.

Painful to watch. I made it 4 minutes.

She isn’t going to last at Baylor with that attitude, that’s for sure.

Sitting there saying the whistle wasn’t the same on both ends when Oklahoma was called for 25 fouls. Every player on their roster was in foul trouble lol.

Baylor has been an extremely physical team for years. She has to understand that. Teams are going to show up ready to sock it to them. She’s expecting some low contact finesse game. Just not gonna happen. Teams want to beat the crap out of Baylor.

I think she’s a brave woman though. I NEVER would have taken that job following someone like Kim. You’re just not gonna out do her…

Thank you God we have Kellie Jean. What a class act she is. She doesn’t make excuses and tells them to keep fighting harder. I’m embarrassed for her and her team.

She was probably going to get fired by the Dream at the end of the season last year. I hope Baylor fans are ready because they’re about to go through what we went through at UT. Our rich history and the legacy of Pat kept us afloat…they have recent history but someone is selling that same dream down in Louisiana.

All facts!

They played much better in the second half. Creighton imploded. Their best player picked up several really silly fouls and totally took herself out of the game. Wasn’t anything UCONN forced her into she was just over playing and took herself out of the game mentally.

Thought their coach was way too emotional and whiny during the game too. His players needed some calm and he wasn’t the answer.

The final score reflects that the game was less competitive than it actually was. It was a single digit game until midway through the 4th quarter. Creighton totally gave up and UCONN kept the pedal down making it a bigger spread than it should have been.

Your comment, "The final score reflects that the game was less competitive than it actually was" is correct. The game really wasn't competitive after a sluggish offensive start by UConn.

Their best player Ronsiek averages 14.4 ppg and 6 rpg. She played 32 minutes. She shot 2 for 9 for 5 points and had 2 rebounds. It was defense that took her out of the game. UConn went from down 12 at 4:05 in the second to up 12 at 1:11 in the third. Outscoring Creighton by 24 in 13 minutes. Creighton averages 72 points per game and scored 56 despite going 5 for 6 from 3 in the first quarter. Even though the UConn offense was atrocious in the first 15 minutes I didn't feel the game was in doubt because UConn was playing pretty good on the defensive end and I didn't think Creighton would continue hitting 3's at almost 86%. They ended up 10/28 and 35%.

I guess we watched the same game through different filters.

Clearly we did.

Wasn’t impressed by the UCONN defense. I thought Creighton imploded offensively. UCONN had one of their better offensive games for a while in terms of movement, screening and decision making.

Most teams in the Big East struggle to score on UCONN not so much because of stellar defense, there is a just a huge talent disparity. The athleticism difference gives you all a huge advantage in conference.

Last night Westbrook had a couple blocked shots and never left her feet. That doesn’t happen in the SEC lmao. The game is played off the floor, at the rim and you had better be able to jump.

Yeah, I saw that. But I though E did a good job of settling the offense down. She came in as the point and hit back to back 3's that seemed to me to calm UConn and get into more of a rhythm.

I'll take the UConn offense in the last half. They ended with 22 assists on 29 made baskets and 5 players in double figures.

Duck! By tomorrow that will reported be on all the sports stations and the Boneyard will be livid with Tennessee for spreading rumors. Even blue font wouldn’t save you.

IDK, those UCant fans are bailing faster than a parachutist from a burning plane, making excuses as they jump. I thought Negas were bad……they can’t match those UCant fans. ☺️

Looking around the country the game of the day for me is Notre Dame vs Virginia Tech. Two teams that matchup pretty well and are very competitive. The game is at ND so I’m giving the edge but not by much.

ND tends to get a good home whistle, they definitely did the other night against NC State. Just a lot of the key calls went their direction. Didn’t think that foul on Johnson toward the end was a foul. Looked like a clean steal and would have been a layup. Was a huge momentum changer.

I’ll also watch MIZZOU/Ole Miss, Arkansas/A&M and Stanford/UCLA today.

Across the country I could see Minnesota pulling off a huge upset on the road today. They play at Indiana. Minnesota is 10-12 and has struggled but has some decent players. Indiana is without Holmes at the moment, without her they are not a Top 25 team IMO. Let alone Top 10. Keep an eye on that one because Minnesota may steal one today. Would be big for us as well because Indiana is close to us in the polls and has a similar resume when you consider both teams.

Why did I pick Mizzou? They’re down 29-14 at halftime. The arena is nearly empty due to the regional snowstorm. Maybe that’s why Mizzou is so flat.

Nice preview. Definitely will pull for Minnesota as well as Va Tech as I want to maximize our win over them to help our seeding!!

So many fans here talking so much crap about how this is the year Tennessee would put a beatdown on UConn....

hehehe-nervous.gif

Wow..it is almost comical how this has gotten so screwed up.

1. No, they will not be at full strength on Sunday.
2. Fudd is available to play, and when she WAS out injured, it was in fact a foot injury not an ankle injury. It has never been confirmed by anyone that there was ever a weight dropped on FUDDS FOOT. Her foot issues began over the summer. The weight rumor was started here in this Vol forum and has never been mentioned by any source associated with UConn.
3. Juhaz is nursing a stress injury in her foot, also NOT associated with weights.
Geno was recently out. Perhaps “hold back” Coach dropped a weight on his foot? Heard it here first.

South Carolina is like a buzzsaw. 30+ lead on Alabama in the 3rd, a few days after that beatdown of FL.

They are peaking at the right time.

SC struggled against Florida. If not for the gators scoring drought in the first quarter it would have been down to the wire. Hope we don't play them in the tourney.
