Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Michigan about to go down to a pretty bad Wisconsin team. Good news for us, as that's one of the teams Charlie Creme mentioned that if they falter, it helps our chances at moving up to a 4 seed.

It's a bad loss but Michigan was missing two of their top three players (Laila Phelia and Leigha Brown).

Umm.. no.

Great shot and great player though.
She averages almost 30 a game in a major conference and regularly flirts with triple doubles. Not many who can say they did that.

She could’ve gone to a UT or UCONN and been mentioned among names like Parker, Holdsclaw, Taurasi, Bird, etc

But she stayed home and now will be THE name at her school for decades to come. Iowa won’t get another like her in this lifetime

Post of the day…no month, or more. Someone who recognizes and appreciates in the moment when they watch a generational talent. She is one of the top most bad azz players in WBB history. Her skills are sick.

All these other teams with 8 or 9 losses aren't any better than UT with the #2 SOS. I am not sure if UT deserves a 4 seed if I am being honest. Maybe if UT beats LSU and plays SC tough again. However UT barring a bad SEzc tourney loss deserves a 5 seed. There aren't 20 teams with a better resume.

Clark is a great player. Absolutely no doubt about that. But her stats are at least in part based on playing on a team that relies on her so completely to be relevant. Compare her freshman year with that of Bueckers. Bueckers shot better (both from 2 and 3-point range), had a better turnover-assist ratio and had more steals. Clark scored more and had more assists because Iowa ran everything through her but I would submit that in the 2020-21 season Bueckers was a fundamentally better player.

And that is without even bringing other all-time greats into the conversation.

That is why PB was NPOY…..This year Clark is #2 in points and #1 in assists. She has been a top 3 contender for NPOY since her first season, she deserves it this year.

If you’re not going to guard the inbounder there’s no reason not to have two bodies chasing Clark to make sure she doesn’t get the ball. It’s either bad defensive design or Indiana just didn’t execute. Their coach should be pressed to answer which one it was in postgame

Unfortunately the IN defense broke down on the last play as the Clark defender tripped over the Iowa center's feet. (Ciziano) sp?

Of course but our exchange grew out of the following post:

She may well be the best WCBB player ever. She could single handedly carry Iowa to the Final Four.

Clark is almost certainly going to finish her college career as an all-time great. In my estimation, though, she isn't close to being the best ever at this time. Additionally, given Iowa's defensive frailties and overt dependence on two players (one of whom has been ineffective in a number of big games) I doubt that the second assertion is likely to become true either.

Even if she stayed on her feet it wasn’t going to be enough to deny Clark the inbound pass, which you have to do at all costs in that situation. You absolutely have to double her if you aren’t going to guard the inbound

She will win NPOY this year. She was top 2 her first two seasons. Likely she is top 2 next year. Has anyone else ever matched that?

Yes…so CC is in rare company…very rare.

I never disagreed with that.

Since Clark is already making more money through NIL than she would as a WNBA rookie she may well stay for her COVID year and break Plum's scoring record. But that's just numbers and context is important.

By and large, I view GOAT pronouncements and debates as being pointless.
