I think the SEC has become more respected towards the end of the year. Now MSU and Georgia are likely tournament teams. Ole Miss can play with anyone. Georgia has an extremely good defense. MSU is so spunky and Bama is competitive as well. After the top three, there is a drop-off but not as much as previously thought. Those teams 4 through 8 have had some competitive games against the top 3, which I think is why those teams are starting to look like tournament teams. While the overall talent level is less than some other years, we have some really good coaches who have teams that improve during the year. I am looking forward to the SEC Tournamnet.

Ivy League schools grant scholarships to students based on demonstrated financial need. I have no idea how creative schools get with aid packages for their athletes but I suspect that students from even middle income families who are offered admission on the basis of playing a sport receive a generous interpretation of need.
I feel confident all athletes have a free ride. Harvard’s endowment is large enough to pay all tuition for all students for 200 plus years.

Lots of people noticed and watched, you have to decide if the first step counts as she was in the act of catching the ball….

Even the gather-step loving NBA would rule that a travel, at least, if they followed their stupid rulebook, they would. Once she has both hands on the ball, it's "gathered,"and she does that before the first foot hits the ground. There's no attempt to dribble, making it three steps.

... I kid, of course, the NBA wouldn't whistle that. The NBA doesn't even bother with traveling. Can't average 130 points a game with all those pesky rules.

Kind of evens out with Holmes' shuffle-foot that occurred before the foul that gave her the go-ahead free throws.

That's as may be, and I certainly don't have a dog in that fight or care much either way. It wouldn't be the first time refs have let something go in the midst of a big highlight moment.

I understand your anti-UConn bias, but you are not comparing apples to apples. Losing six players at the end of a season and then re-stacking your roster through transfer portal is completely different than losing two key players right before the start of the season, and then losing most of your starters for long stretches during the season. 10 of the 12 players have missed at least two games this year, with many missing double digit games. They had to postpone a game due to lack of players, and once started a point guard that was destined for a community college until she was grabbed as a last second emergency replacement.

Try being objective for a second, and choose any women’s basketball team in the country and remove two of their top six players for the season. Then remove two starters for 15 games each. Then remove the point guard for several games. Remove a sometimes starter, who averaged almost 20 points per game over a 10 game stretch last year. Then periodically remove everybody else on the roster for at least two games. Which team, playing one of the top OOC schedules, would not be happy being 21-5 heading into their conference tournament, with one cupcake game remaining.

Example: If we choose South Carolina. Zia Cooke (Starting point guard Paige Bueckers) and Cardoza (first big off the bench ) are out for the season. Aliyah Boston (Starting center Dorka Juahz) misses 16 games. Beal misses 19 games and counting (Azzi at 18 ppg equally better than Beal as Boston is better than Dorka). Amihere (Caroline Ducharme) misses 16 games. Then Feagan, Hall, Fletcher, Watkins and Saxton all miss at least two games. Raven Johnson plays but is so banged up her shooting percentage drops precipitously. Thompson has to start at point guard against top ten opponent Maryland, and also has the shoot free throws with seconds left against a top 25 ranked opponent. Do you think South Carolina would be happy being 21-5 under those circumstances? It kind of puts things in perspective. Hate them or really hate them, what UConn has done is actually pretty remarkable under the circumstances.

I get the point.

No, you said Azzi equally better than Beal…..I think there is debate there for all around game at this point. As for Ice, claim all the preseason hype you want, it’s speculation, Cardoso was proven before season started so it was also a bad analogy. Nobody is trying to say Paige isn’t the biggest loss in WBB this year, she is. And nobody is trying to say Uconn hasn’t had to endure the most injuries this year, they have. But those two AA players rotting on the bench are either not as elite as they were recruited or the Uconn way Is not conducive to getting some quality minutes from them as the starting 5 wears down. Btw, Cooke is a way better defender than Paige, and that has some merit you overlook.
I’m going to have to pop more popcorn 😆😆😆😆

I don’t think you can call travel there, have watched it many times now

Seems like you and I are the only ones who noticed those three steps.

After the call the refs blew at the other end they could have been physically injured by the home crowd if they had called a travel on that play. I thought it was two steps and a jump, myself.

Not a good moment for the Indiana coach. Everyone watching the game knew that Clark would shoot a three. She also should have told her player to miss the last three throw, just hit the rim with it and have her other four players lined up 20 feet in front of their own 3 point line. No way Iowa grabs the rebound dribbles down court and gets the ball to Clark for any kind of decent shot in 1.5 seconds. Or at least force someone besides Clark to take an outside shot. Instead a simple screen allows Clark to be in the perfect position to shoot the three just as she gets the ball.

Not surprised. They really struggled at times this season. She has a lot of promise as a coach but could not recruit well at TCU for whatever reason. Especially after the pandemic. She had a really nice team in 19-20 when they had Heard.

That season was a huge blow to programs like TCU. They were a team on the rise and probably looking at their first NCAA tournament since 2010. Really takes the wind out of your sails when the tournament is cancelled. Didn’t get they exposure they needed to recruit and replace what they were losing.

Xavier played even with UCONN in 3 of the 4 Q. Beating them by just 9 at home when favored by 36.5 and a Net of 224. Since the UT game all 10 games of UCONN have been by 10 or less points.

That cancelled tournament was unfortunate for several teams and players. As a Maryland supporter, I felt cheated. The Terrapins were by no means favorites, having lost early in the season to South Carolina and NC State. But by tournament time Maryland was on a 17 game win streak having won the B1G and B1G Tournament with ease. That team had size, experience and depth with two extremely high ceiling freshmen starting to play major minutes. The Terps were expected to be the final 1 seed. I don't know how well they would have done against Oregon or in a rematch with South Carolina but they were playing extremely well. That was Maryland's best team since the one that got to the Final Four in 2015.
