Great timeout by Coach Yo. This is one where the real coaching goes down. Elite Eight on the line. “Down 5 (7) but Myah is gonna make these free throws.” “Two stops, two scores and this thing is ours. They are tired, we are not!” Let’s go Ole Miss!!!

That’s going to be a fun matchup. Interested to see how Louisville defends Clark. Their defense tonight was great.
I agree. At some point during the season Louisville picked up the pace. We knew Ole Miss can play defense but when Louisville is locked in they can play defense with the best of them. If they can hit some shots throughout the game they can take down Iowa.

Come on ole miss! Continue beating the ugly step sisters!
46 old miss 56 lou score at last time out around midnight. step sister had stole their dancing shoes . do not think step sister gets ring but step sister happy there no ring for cinderella as the clock strikes midnight. old miss plays d just need more o.

I feel bad for Ole Miss, but the 'Ville just flat out kept their intensity and focus to the end, and OM seemed to stop believing halfway through the game. They got frustrated by some calls, shooting was off, lost focus and the Cardinals took advantage of it.

Van Lith is a dawg. Great player. Louisville was definitely the better team tonight. Sure would be cool if this started a rivalry between those two programs.

I want to say I felt bad for the Utah player who missed those last two free throws with 4 seconds left ... but watching teammates give high fives to a player who just air-balled a free throw is so ridiculous. Why do players at the free throw line have to get some skin after every attempt - even when it is misses as badly as that first attempt did? It's a stupid ritual that basketball players do. End of rant.

I have always thought the same thing, but even more strongly after a made free throw than a miss. I liken free throws to throwing darts, and anyone who has ever been really good at throwing darts (me, long ago!) knows that the key to making consecutive accurate throws is to not break the focus. Step up, focus, throw. If it hits target, maintain the stance and focus and quickly throw again. If you need two bulls to win, you do NOT step away for high fives after you drill the first throw. You immediately use the exact motion while in the same focus window to make the second throw.

If you miss, you can more easily make the slight adjustment necessary if your second attempt is made while still in that same position and window of focus.

This is, IMO, how free throw shooting should be taught. The high fives bug me.

There is research that shows high fives (and other similar type teammate contact) improves performance on the court. I remember hearing Candace Parker talk about this. In the situation with the Utah player, I’m personally glad to see they would be encouraging her and telling her, it’s ok, move on to the next one.

Welcome to the asylum!

Iowa's Clark is an outstanding shooter. What bugs me about her is her very active left arm that helps makes space in her movements to the rim. Someone pointed this out earlier and the refs never call it. At around the 1:00 mark of the 4Q, Clark I think used her shoulder to get space from her defender. It was very egregious, however it was late in the game and the refs didn't whistle her. Clark is an AA, however she bugs me.

It’s give and take for me. Defenders are generally draped all over her and the cylinder rule is out the window. If they aren’t going to call that then they are likely going to let some creation of space slide as long as she doesn’t fully extend her arm.

She’s very good about having her arm up and ready to create space when she and the defender make contact as opposed to brining it up as she makes the contact.

Not an accident she’s so hard to guard. A player like that is going to get some leeway from the officials.

Also, ESPN put it in one of their headlines that Utah missed 2 free throws, which is sad. After crying on the bench, the player did come back in and finish the game, which I thought was pretty strong of her.
