Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Then what actually is a standard of acceptable sportsmanship? Is there one? I don't mind the trash talk and playing with an edge. I grew up on playground ball my entire life. I'm not clutching pearls here. There's a line somewhere.
Sorry to say it, but this barely registers on the level of trash talk that occurs on the men's side. Bird, Jordan, Kobe were all prolific sh!t talkers, it's part of the sport.

Not saying you have to like players who do that, per se, or like their style of trash talk. They play the role of the heel and we all love to hate 'em. Makes the game really fun, imo.

Clark is a massive trash talker herself, people seem more upset about Angel's behavior towards her than she was.

Now if you can't leave it on the court, that's where my line is.

and Mississippi State beat UT. No one is saying they are a better program than UT. Its about more than head to head bro.

And we beat LSU, head to head.

The SEC was tough this season. What Kellie did deserves some respect. So many pundits talked all sorts of trash on the SEC this season.

Top two teams made up half the final four and we brought home the ship.

I’m a Kim fan and been telling people, Kimmy wins ballgames. Not at all surprised by the result today.

No excuses of meshing or needing time to turn it around.

Ummm...Mulkey did repeatedly justify her absurd schedule by saying that she didn't know what the team would look like together. So let's not pretend that just took raw clay and molded it into a team.

This was LSU's lucky year. Credit to them for taking advantage of their breaks.

Talk is one thing. Most of it is just psychological, though. I don't ever remember any of those dudes chasing their opponent at the end of a title to taunt them to their face. You talk your **** in the moment, but it's done at the end.

Don’t really have to when you win. Coach speak

We did and in hindsight its a good win and she gets credit for it. My point was that it doesn't mean UT is close to contending for a national title simply because they beat LSU during the season.

There was a window before the season started that we all thought we'd be in the conversation by this time of the year but it didn't happen. We really weren't close either.

Maybe they could be Final Four contenders next year but it really depends on who they can bring in through the portal. The best argument they have is you have the opportunity to play with Key and Jackson.

In that case, why not just practice all season with a few scrimmages thrown in and the start keeping score with conference tournaments? After all, those last nine or ten games are all that matter.

The power conferences can beat up on D-III schools for their scrimmages, and fans will be thrilled by the amazing scores!

Kind of what everyone here wanted…cupcake. Just win the games scheduled and it takes care of itself.

I remember a few seasons ago when they moved the 3 point line back in the women’s game. The shooting was atrocious that season. The comments were brutal, some of these young women were reading those and had something to prove.

The shooting on display from both teams was so fun to watch. Such a good thing for the game.

Get used to it, South Carolina and LSU aren't going anywhere. And it appears neither is Tennessee...
^^^ This guy speaks in melodrama ... but Tennessee should have a better women's basketball coach than Kellie Harper. She was Fulmer's baby and he is gone. I have hope that White will do something.

Before the season, we were counting on a healthy Tamari Key. How far would LSU have gone without Reese?

How many people placed bets that Carson would shoot lights out and score over 20 off the bench?

I disagree that we "weren't close" to a Final Four this year. I think with Key we would have made it. Whether we could have beaten LSU again would have depended how well Key could have guarded Reese. I also think that with Horston in the tourney last year, we would have made the round of Eight.

Unless you have the loaded teams that steamroll everyone and never face a real challenge, a lot of factors have to align to win a championship. You get an easier draw due to an upset in your bracket. Your opponent has an uncharacteristically-cold shooting night, or you have an unusually good one. Injuries to opponents. Opponent chokes due to unforced errors or missed free throws. Just all sorts of unpredictable things. Arkansas fumbles while running out the clock; otherwise, Tenn doesn't go on to win a football championship.

Mulkey is one of five active coaches with at least one national championship. Four of them have multiples. They all attract top talent. Credit to her for using her history and personality for assembling a talented group and putting them in a position to win. But don't sell other teams short just because they couldn't overcome major setbacks or just had bad games at the worst time.

I hear he's going to Boca Raton with his brothers on a fishing trip, so that should be fun.
I meant along the lines of making a change at women's head basketball coach - with no restrictions placed on the search - such as the next coach having to be a former Lady Vol player, like Fulmer did.

Did Fulmer do anything right as AD? Hard to tell.

We know what you meant. Who do you favor getting? Mulkey, Bluder, Brooks, or Staley?
