Before the season, we were counting on a healthy Tamari Key. How far would LSU have gone without Reese?
How many people placed bets that Carson would shoot lights out and score over 20 off the bench?
I disagree that we "weren't close" to a Final Four this year. I think with Key we would have made it. Whether we could have beaten LSU again would have depended how well Key could have guarded Reese. I also think that with Horston in the tourney last year, we would have made the round of Eight.
Unless you have the loaded teams that steamroll everyone and never face a real challenge, a lot of factors have to align to win a championship. You get an easier draw due to an upset in your bracket. Your opponent has an uncharacteristically-cold shooting night, or you have an unusually good one. Injuries to opponents. Opponent chokes due to unforced errors or missed free throws. Just all sorts of unpredictable things. Arkansas fumbles while running out the clock; otherwise, Tenn doesn't go on to win a football championship.
Mulkey is one of five active coaches with at least one national championship. Four of them have multiples. They all attract top talent. Credit to her for using her history and personality for assembling a talented group and putting them in a position to win. But don't sell other teams short just because they couldn't overcome major setbacks or just had bad games at the worst time.
We can respectfully disagree. I saw nothing this year that indicates even with Tamari Key that was a Final Four capable team. And no offense to Tamari Key but she's no where close to being in the same conversation as Angel Reese.
Sorry to say it, but this barely registers on the level of trash talk that occurs on the men's side. Bird, Jordan, Kobe were all prolific sh!t talkers, it's part of the sport.
Not saying you have to like players who do that, per se, or like their style of trash talk. They play the role of the heel and we all love to hate 'em. Makes the game really fun, imo.
Clark is a massive trash talker herself, people seem more upset about Angel's behavior towards her than she was.
Now if you can't leave it on the court, that's where my line is.
The same coach I wanted in 2019 ... when we 100% could have had her - Courtney Banghart. Would obviously be a tougher get now.
I don't think Kim Mulkey would have left Baylor for Tennessee. Louisiana is her home. Now, would it have hurt to make that call - which we know Fulmer didn't make? Of course not. Our sights were low in 2019. They didn't have to be.Puke lol
Talk about a dud.
I didn’t want Kellie and still don’t want Jon. I now support Kellie because I really like the direction she took with the program. At least we have some damn dignity again.
I wanted Kim. Everyone said I was crazy, that she would never leave Baylor. Said it would be insane for her to leave a program where she had won 3 championships and “start over.”
Kim doesn’t start anything over. Kim is a winner and has proven that at every step of her career. She sets out with one goal every game. WIN.

... and I disagree with your assessment of Banghart, fwiw.
What Reese did at the end, particularly the chasing Clark around, was not "trash-talking" or "psyching out" a opponent. It was just straight-out taunting. Can't remember ever seeing it happen so blatantly be anyone. Usually, just looking at an opponent and yelling draws a T.
What Reese did is the kind of stuff that results in hands being thrown in the handshake line. Or balls being thrown and benches clearing.
I admit I don't watch a lot of wcbb but I was impressed by Reese. She was the difference in the game imo. Iowa just could not overcome her offensive boards. LSU could take any shot they wanted, and aside from the run Iowa made in the 3rd, there was a really high chance Reese was gonna get the putback layup, or the board at the very least.Defensively sure. No question. But were talking total package here.
The best thing about LSU winning the championship? It wasn't UConn.Geno: Women's tourney should stay its own entity
ESPN puff piece on Geno’s opinion. Why do we have to hear from him today? He wasn’t in the Final Four.
He’s taken more and given less to women’s basketball than anyone I can think of.
She did what Clark has done in many games to opposing teams. Should Reese have taken the high road? Probably. Would Clark have done this to her and LSU if the situation was reversed? You know she would have.
Two wrongs don't make it right - but sometimes the message is louder and clearer when it comes from a peer.
I personally don't believe it is good sportsmanship, but karma will typically catch up at some point.
^^^ This guy speaks in melodrama ... but Tennessee should have a better women's basketball coach than Kellie Harper. She was Fulmer's baby and he is gone. I have hope that White will do something.
Never is a long time. Like I said before, you have a tendency to go heavy on the melodrama.Don't hold your breathe. I suspect regular third place SEC finishes and Sweet 16 appearances are enough to quell the masses that matter. The Lady Vols will never be a true contender, but they're just relevant enough...
