Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

I was just asking because some think Key is elite.
When you are talking elite, Kitly a 2 time all-American post managed 10 points total against Tamari in 2 seasons playing 40 minutes each game. Kitley averages right at 20 points per game Cordoso the last time they played, played 20 minutes and managed 2 against Tamari. These are the posts you talk about being elite, but they can't score against Tamari Key what makes them Elite? So yes, Tamari is Elite.

Ridiculous take. Credit to Reese for winning the Ship, but Iowa doesn't beat the best team in the country to even make it to the title game if Clark was an "empty stats" player...
The best team in the country is Lsu because they are the champions. That’s like in the NBA when a team has the best regular season record doesn’t win the champion, they are not the best team.

It’s some people on here as well, they think getting 5’6 will get us to a final four.
Kind of like 5-6 Alexis Morris who just dropped 21 points and had 9 assists in the National Championship game, not to mention guarding Caitlyn Clark and making everything much more difficult for her than most who have played against her this year. Gotcha.

Pssst... the beauty of college basketball is there isn't a 7 game series and the best team doesn't always win the championship. Longtime Lady Vol fans should understand that as much as anyone...

lol, no way! Come on. That's way too much. Now you're using Destinee Wells and her height to get a dig in on posters? Before she even steps on campus? For real?

And you say you aren't negative. I can't even.

The legends of the game will be remembered by championships and now Reese is one of them.

Siemone Augustus? Jackie Styles? Kara Lawson? Elena Della Donne? Alayna Beard? Skyler Diggins? Sabrina Ionescu?

(Apologies for misspelled names).

How many championships did each of the above have? And these were just off the top of my head. I'm sure I could come up with a longer list given a few more minutes. For instance, the great Ms. State big's name escapes me along with some other notables who had great careers.

I’m being realistic because when the season starts and then the flaws show up, people will start to complain. I see the flaws now and I don’t have to wait, but It’s possible we get some elite players in the portal.

The point I’m making is for the people that never watched them play, I hear some people talking about Reese and then never watched women’s basketball. Diggins I remember most people tslked about how they thought she looked, even though she was a good player. I’ll close it with this All-Americans are made in the regular season, but legends are made in the championship game, and Reese closed the show.

So Wells is (1) not elite enough for you and (2) too short to measure up to your expectations?

I'm not saying Tennessee can't use help at positions, either. But I'm surprised that "5’6” can't help" is the default attitude about a player like Wells, right out the gate. That's wild.

Well, Reese helped. She had 15 while three teammates scored over 20 apiece. As Reese said, it was no one-woman show.

Both Reese and Clark shot about the same percentage. Clark had twice as many points (30) but took almost twice as many shots. Reese had 10 rebounds; Clark had 8 assists.

Bill Walton's near-perfect performance in scoring 44 in a championship game is legendary (and I thought he wad a cocky so-and-so in doing it). Swoope's performance was legendary. I wouldn't call Reese a "legend" yet except to LSU fans. Ruth Riley is a Notre Dame legend for leading them to one NC, but I don't think she or most fans would call her a "legend" based upon that championship game.

Reese's season averages were eye-popping, but the level of competition hurts her resume. She has a few more years to actually earn "legend" status if she can.

I think Wells is a good piece from what I’ve seen, but she’s not elite but maybe she can be. Like Jefferson is elite in my opinion.

Reese puts her teammates in position to succeed because she’s not worried about individual accolades.

Clark took 22 shots compared to Rees 12, so talking about points doesn’t make sense, Reese had a double double and played 6 less mins, while also having 5 assist compare to Clark having only 2 rebs.

You can say the schedule hurt her resume, but her resume says National Champion with the Mop in the final four and that’s all that matters. U can have all the regular season accolades but I’ll take championships with Mop.

She led Lsu to their first cha against all odds, all the doubters and haters are still hating today but they can never take away what she accomplishe.

Okaaaaay.

I was saying that they basically played equally-good games and pointed out exactly the same stats you did. I don't have anything invested in either player. Apparently, you missed the part saying that their field goal percentages for the game were virtually the same. Maybe now you can figure out the points comparison. You can debate about which team needed the individual star's points more and which team had more talent.

Not sure what the "haters" and "doubters" comment is all about. Some might say that folks calling Reese a "legend" for turning in a game below her averages is sort of disrespecting and doubting her teammates who actually contributed more, but whateva. Are Carson, Williams, and Morris also "legends" for turning in great championship game performances (since that is your standard for "legendary" status)? Seems we have a lot more legends running around than we knew. ;)

"Against all odds?" Seriously?

And what does "Mop" stand for?

Seems that there is a lot of Va. Tech drama going on surrounding Ashley Owusu. When the question came up about where she was at end of the game vs LSU, Traylor tweeted "hmmm idk you might check lsu bench." Meanwhile, Owusu's father implied in a tweet that Kenny Brooks had a pet group of players that he favored and had exclusive chat groups with while ignoring and not speaking to other players.

A real mess.

Mop stands for “Most Outstanding Player” like a finals Mvp. It’s. It always about the numbers, she did what she needed to do to win and that’s all that matters. She had a double double and broke the record for most in a season in the championship game, that’s legendary status.

When the question came up about where she was at end of the game vs LSU, Traylor tweeted "Idk you might check lsu bench." Terrible if true.

The postgame tweeting drew a lot of attention. Evidently, Cate King, Souse, and Kitley all retweeted Traylor's post. Then A. Reese (Owusu's former Maryland teammate) tweeted "FREE MY DAWG" to which King responded, "She's been free."

Meanwhile, other bball personalities were acknowledging the drama. Lexie Brown talked about how she'd never seen teammates tweeting each other while in same building after a national semifinal to which Coach Yolette responded, "Sis i'm speechless." When Brown added on, "Coach take their phones," MeMe Jackson replied (with several 'crying-laughing' emojis), "nah fr i'm sipping my tea."

At any rate, Owusu says she's going pro next year. Still a fascinating side story.

Kenny had a good core group but what happened the other night was a bad look for his program.

Imagine if that had been the Tennessee players after we lost. People would have been calling for Kellie’s head on a platter for letting the program get out of her handle.

Brooks seems like a good dude but that shows poor leadership and a cliquey culture I wouldn’t want to be part of. Regardless of how much a part Owusu played in it with her attitude. If it’s that much of a distraction, she should have been dismissed from the team rather than intentionally excluded and then burned up on Twitter by her teammates.

Just my two cents but I don’t think it will have done anything good for their recruiting.

My question is how on earth did Traylor post that tweet literally 5 minutes after the game? I mean she must have sprinted back to the lockeroom and frantically grabbed her phone to post that. Sheesh!

Exactly. Just not what anyone should have been focused on in that moment. I understand you’re broken hearted having just lost but for that to be the first thing you think about?

Nah.
