Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

I swear, if Paige gets named 1st team AA...

Even 2nd team AA might be a stretch for her with the competition she has at G with Clark, Hidalgo, Watkins, Sheldon, etc. I'd have to think that UConn's luster has already worn off. If anyone on their team deserves AA honors, it's Edwards and I still don't think she deserves 1st or 2nd team.

No way Uconn should have 2 AA's.

I agree. I think Edwards is 2nd team or HM all American. Don’t think Bueckers should even be on the list.

UConn has lost to every truly good team they played this year with the exception of maybe Louisville who is playing better as of late.

For me you have to at least play with the best competition in the country to make AA and it hasn’t been close.

Same goes for our players. Jackson is talented enough to be an AA but I don’t feel our team has played well enough for her to earn more than HM honors if that.

I expect Kim to raise a stink about it if she loses there again this year. She needs to try to get a western “ neutral” site every other year. New Orleans?
That's a good place for people to visit. Gymnastics tried this a few years ago to over 10000 per session, so they are repeating it again this year.

Hurts doesn’t have a statue at Oklahoma.
All seven OK Heisman winners do, Murray was the last one not Hurts, my mistake.

My prediction will be something like this:

1st: Clark, Watkins, Reese, Brink, Cardoso

Comments: I think it should be Hidalgo over Watkins, but Juju has the name recognition and higher profile team, so she gets the nod. Cardoso gets 1st team as the best player on the best team. Reese gets repeat honors (I think she has the stats to back it up). Brink gets promoted over Mackenzie Holmes due to the H2H matchup.

2nd: Hidalgo, Sheldon, Pili, Holmes, Kitley

Comments: Hidalgo is borderline first team and no worse than 2nd team. Pili, Holmes and Kitley were all either 1st or 2nd team last year, and none of them have done badly enough to drop below at least 2nd team. Sheldon is a bit of a long horse, but she has the stats and OSU is #2 in the country. She's probably the least likely to get 2nd team.

3rd: Paopao, Sherod/Rivers, Morrow, Edwards, Betts

Comments: Morrow and Edwards hold their 3rd team honors from last season. Betts kept UCLA at #2 for a long portion of the season and has been a difference maker for the Bruins. Paopao gets the bump as the best guard (statistically) on the #1 team and to make up for LSU having two spots (really hard not to give it to Morrow given how well she's fit into LSU while improving her shooting from last season); I can see her getting left off though. Last spot was tough to pick. I'll give it to either Sherod from Colorado or Rivers from NCState for being the respective engines for their overachieving teams.

Spoilsports: Bueckers (you just watch...I bet she makes first team somehow), Madison Booker, Cotie McMahon, Ayoka Lee (though I think she's missed too much time), Kiki Irifian, Charisma Osbourne, Raegan Beers, Georgia Amore, Dyaisha Fair

Agree if Tennessee was better, Jackson should be 3rd team, but hard for me to say who I would bump her for. Guess it depends on how much "better", but with their current performance, she has no shot at AA honors unless she goes on a tear for the next 5 games and they beat SC and LSU.

Interesting question NV Knox. I’ll have a breakdown for you soon.

I just finished the first phase of my film scouting session the Utah v South Carolina game.

Pili wiped SC front court nose in the 1st half with 21 points. She did whatever she wanted to but did not get much help from her teammates.

Pili had three fouls in the 1st half and atleast one was very questionable on a moving screen.

Utah does not have very much foot speed and despite the SEC fan club and SC fans on Twitter along with the NVs neither does SC outside of a few players.

I saw a matchup that would allow the LVs to play their 3pt shooters only if they are making shots but that’s only one matchup against SC backcourt.

Spear is better than the SC transfer.

Utah doesn’t have multiple highly rated prospects in their program but were down only 7 at the half despite Pili having to sit out to close the 2nd qtr.

Utah actually played SC better than LSU did weeks ago considering how they completely took Pili out the game in the 1st half with a questionable foul.

SC has no elite one on one defenders like they had in Beal and Boston.
“SC has no elite one on one defenders” WC

Well, somehow they have the number one defense in the SEC and the nation While playing a man to man defense. Probably an accident, but after your film study tonight let us know how that happened.

I'm surprised to see Tennessee pretty much statistically as one of the worst defensive teams in the SEC. Especially when we saw on Monday just how good they can be on defense if they commit to it.

You trying too hard… NV Knox
Pili was the best player on the floor.
Suspect officiating in this game.
Utah held it close for most of the game.

SC does not have an answer for Rickea Jackson or Jewel Spear.
No need to make this game hard.. play 7 or 8.. you have two of the best four players between both teams.

TK and Jillian Hollingshead in this game are the X-Factors. We don’t need Powell taking those low percentage mid-range jumpers. Either pass it or drive for a layup.

They don’t have ANY elite post defender with the loss of Boston.

Nor an elite perimeter defender without Beal.

Rickea and Jewel both should take what the defense gives them because the chances will be there.

Puckett can do what she wants against Kitts as well.
Wow....we are going to get blown out.....we have no answers and Spears and Jackson are going to get 40 points apiece because we have no one that can guard them. Puckett will get 40 because we know Kitts isn't any good. Man...delusional doesn't even describe this nonsense. You are just a troll....there is no other explanation. I just need to go past your post without reading them. You are not a serious poster with anything reasonable to add.

Speaking of UConn, they are up 50-13 over hapless 1-20 (0-12) Xavier. The closest BEast game has been 9 pts in a loss at home vs. Providence. UConn has played 8 players so far, including Ines Bettencourt. No Amari DeBerry sighting. I'm amazed that she's still wasting her career away at UConn when I'm sure she could go play at Xavier and be their star (by default, of course). She might have been the worst scouted HS prospect ever.

Baylor fortunate it’s only a 6 point game at the half. OU was 1-12 from three in the first half. Shoot their normal percentage and it’s over.

That’s your opinion.
And I’m going to post some more.

Officials mucking up this Baylor/OU game.

Baylor holding terrible on every possession on both ends but the officials are calling the reaction foul by OU. It’s irritating to watch.

Great finish for Iowa State, beating #7 Kansas State 96-93 in 2OT. The Cyclones freshman Audi Crooks stood her ground against All American Ayoka Lee, matching her 20 points and outrebounding Lee 9-6 (Lee blocked her like 6 times over the last two overtimes though). Emily Ryan was awful from the floor shooting 1-14, but made up for it going 10-10 from the FT line and finishing with a 12-12 double double in points and assists. Very poised finish for the freshmen when they went 10-10 from the FT line over the last 35s to maintain a 3 point lead that KSU could never tie.

UCONN men and women play a 3 and 20 team and a 1 and 20 tonight. 42-7 vs 4-40....44.5 and 24.5 point spreads. That has to be close to a record both schools playing teams that bad with 308 and 316 in the NET. Just a too much time on my hands kind of thought.
And both UConn teams won by 30+.

Truly had me on the edge of my seat all night. 🙄😂

There are still deluded UConn fans who insist to this day that DeBerry just needs one breakout game and she’s going to be a massive star. I just have to laugh. She’s just taking up a spot on the bench. We’ve had walk-ons perform better than her; it’s not even the talent, it’s the lack of heart and hustle. I’m shocked she’s still even on the team. I wish I knew what the deal was.

I just find it extremely disappointing because you know time and effort was wasted on recruiting her. Who could we have gotten instead??

Delusional.. lil birdie your team loss to a weak Missouri team a few years back with 8 players.

Truth is, WBB is down. UConn is not a good team. Maryland, NC, etc isn’t either. SC will eventually take some Ls this season.

Got beat by a weak Kentucky team in the SEC tourney years ago that got beat down by the LVs in the regular season and couldn’t beat us until we loss Jordan Horston for the year.

SC and this so called dominance(invincibility) is a myth.

Come off your high horse… be a fan and leave it at that. I stamped what I said.. it was all facts. The videos prove what I said about the LV commit(s).

Utah undersized post abused SC front court all game. She just didn’t have enough help.

If the LVs coach doesn’t over substitute and take her own team out of the game Tennessee wins this game.
LOL. First, I acknowledge that I am just a guest here and I thank the many posters for putting up with me and my participation. After saying that, I want to make a few comments.
1- Nobody gives a crap about the past exploits of a players past accomplishments and poll status.
2- Nobody gives a crap about who may be coming in the future and their poll status.
3- What people care about is what is happening now. People want to talk, or complain about how the team is doing, and what do they have to do to get better. There is no need to bring up if they were a MAA, or what number they were before they entered the portal, or speculating how much better they are compared with another player without competing with that player.

The bottom line is that this forum is for the real fans to discuss the team, program, and coach. These people are passionate and are trying to work out how to fix problems with the team or individual players. This is for fun, and WC cannot stand anyone to say anything negative about the program. Being stuck in the cheerleading mode doesn't help the conversation, and the constant rhetoric busting people for telling the truth or looking for answers doesn't help either. The people who question some of what's happening aren't NVs, but concerned real fans. To me, you are the real NV because you cannot face reality, and your comments add nothing to the conversation at hand. If you can't talk to people without talking down to them why talk at all. Maybe you can just start you own cheerleading thread, although it may turn out to be rather lonely. There are fans of other teams posting here, but we mean to be respectful of the LVOLs program at all times and I am sorry to the other fans if you think I am out of line, don't mean to be. I enjoy this forum because of the passion of its fans and hope I continue to be welcome here.

I have been a UConn fan forever, and to me DeBerry is the biggest disappointment in the history of Genos tenure. With all the injuries the last 3 years, Amari has had many chances to step up and show that she belongs in the program. She failed every time, and I think Geno has finally given up on her. Being the tallest player on the team sure doesn't mean anything if they don't have the drive to win or play with passion. We are truly disappointed. She is a great teammate and supports the rest of the team, but we don't need 6'5" cheerleaders.

I keep seeing people post about the great defensive effort against Arkansas and I just don't understand it. What I saw was a team getting wide open looks but they couldn't hit a bull in the arse with a banjo. They rarely sent someone in to rebound even on free throws. It was a truly pathetic effort on Arkansas's part. We got blown by a lot, but we had Key there and she scared the crap out of them. That's why I posted during the game that "just because a team is not scoring doesn't necessarily mean the other team is playing good defense". I guess we just see things differently.
