Maybe all the Heisman statues should come down for all the players who received one before age 42 then? That was the age thrown out there wasn’t it? Let’s start a clamor to take down Tebow’s, Murray’s, Mayfield’s etc etc…or is it just that it’s in a women’s sport that this “new” standard exists?
Like i said, your hero, your statue, your deal.

I am well aware of the Heisman courtyard of statues at Oklahoma. Thats their deal. Florida has them for their winners. I’m not saying that waiting until one has completed a professional career is the way everyone should set their standard. That was certainly the way it worked out for Coach Pat Summit.

We finally got a statue of General Robert Neyland up under the Stadium he built from the ground up, engineered numerous expansions and left plans to continue expansions well after his death. RIP General.

I have often wondered why it took so long to recognize Condredge Holloway thusly.

We live in a new age. Our culture has endured massive paradigm shifts since January 2020.

I do believe the Gamecock faithful realize the imperative to strike while the iron is hot in order to maximize the power of propaganda.

Two things stand out in this game. Beers was out due to injury, and Watkins was 6-32 from the field with one assist and 5 to’s, easily the worse game of her young career.

These statues went up in 2021, same year as A’ja’s, are they also part of the cultural paradigm shift since Jan 2020 and propaganda you are referencing Chuck? I don’t believe so, but you can’t have it both ways Chuck.

Absolutely. The main difference being the twenty to fifty years between the events and the raising of the statues. Our hero’s were well overdue for recognition. Yours have been more immediate. Like I said, a cultural paradigm shift.

A great example of a lingering recognition due would be George Rodgers. I get that side issue though.

Not sure about a statue but the real all time scoring champ from South Carolina has a center named for her.

I actually recognize Pearl Moore’s name. Possibly because I’ve been through Florence numerous times? Probably. Doubt it was from my early youth, having been born in Aiken.

More likely, from my study over the years of all things sports related. Victoria Cape ring any bells? Went to high school with her.

ESPN can’t make no money off dat! 💰💰

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yeah, ole George had some PR image work to knock out first.

In SC we tend to honor dignitaries early on. Several state senators have had their portraits hung in the State House long before they left office. One senator who went to jail and another who received a suspended sentence had highways named in their honor that had to be changed. Nikki's portrait was placed in the governor's mansion during her second term. If she behaves herself it will one day make it to the State House.

Shortly after Strom passed, Essie Mae exposed him as her father on the Today show. Then they had to add her name to the list of his children at the base of his statue. There really wasn't room for her name so it looks like the afterthought that it really was. We all knew about the daughter of color he never publicly claimed.

What Aja did at South Carolina is not going to change in 20 years. Those accomplishments are baked in. You have concern about what we do to reward our program. Our coaches and our players? That just shows you have nothing going on. The University of Tennessee could put up a statue for Jackson tomorrow and I couldn't care less. It's the Tennessee programs decision. It makes no sense that this is even a subject to be discussed. The "she should get it at 42" might be the craziest statement yet. Is her national championship and stats going to be greater? Is she not going to be the first when she is 42 as she is at 22? I mean, give me a break. Heritage and legacy are there already....geez....

Born in Aiken - nice! If you get back try the chili cheese at City Billiards or Carolina BBQ in New Ellenton ( second only to Scott's in Hemingway/Mt Pleasant ).

Andrew Jackson was born in SC ( old Waxhaw District ) near the NC line. NC likes to claim him as well and has his statue in front of their State House. But we all know he belongs to Tennessee.
