Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

I'm calling my old high school tomorrow. Damnit I led my high school basketball team to State finals 3 years in a row.

Leading scorer and rebounder from shooting guard position.

I want my damn statue ASAP.🧐🧐🧐

35 years is long enough to wait..

BTW I actually visited my old high school rite before Christmas break.

I stopped and admired the team photo from the years that went to state tournament, a teenager came up and asked what I was looking at .
I said my old high school team photo that went to state finals .
He said cool which one are you, so I pointed and the kids reaction was priceless.
He said are you sure that's you? Lol

But we all know he belongs to Tennessee.
Ya'll can have him (Andrew Jackson). Anyone can have him.

What makes me super sensitive about statues, esp for young uns, is Pat's statue. Just feels like it should be saved for someone of that magnitude. But that's just us, your statue fire sale really is none of our business. But it's sports, so we get to have nosy, biased, off the cuff reactions. And do.

Can we go back to hating on Bayou Barbie and Kimmie? Something we can agree on?

Just wondering what Lady Vols will guard Williams the sensational Freshmen from LSU.
She is not a real speed player just a great shooter. I would probably use Puckett, Spear on her. Guard point guard on point guard. The real problem looks to be Flague who we going to put on her? I guess would have to be Jackson and also Wynn.

I believe the Van Lith vs Powell matchup is the key .

Both tend to be loose cannons who are loose with the ball quite frequently.

Whichever holds their composure can impact the games outcome.

The stars are going to be stars most often, these matchups can determine winners vs losers.

Been playing Pao Pao quite a bit here lately at the point so yes they have some weakness at the position as Van Lith is not suited to play there. Williams couldn't make a shot when they played SC and that is the major reason they lost. The way to beat them is to contain those wing players. Reese is going to get hers and that is ok if you can stop Williams and Morrow from having big games.

But then who guards Morrow? That's what I'm worried about.

Morrow is the matchup I’m concerned about as well. I think it has to be Rickea/Jill and they’re going to have to step up and play both ends of the floor without fouling.

Most important thing with Morrow is she has to catch a body every single time a shot goes up. She is a great offensive rebounder, as is Reese. Have to put a body on both of them and our guards are going to have to be ready to grab the ball.

Actually think we can frustrate Van Lith pretty easily. Would bait her into some ill advised 3s. She doesn’t shoot a good percentage and Kim gets pissed when she quick shoots the ball. She’s a player I might give just a little extra space on the perimeter in transitions. Every quick 3 she jacks up is a layup and a foul Reese and Morrow aren’t getting.

As long as we can keep Rickea out of foul trouble would work. That is the reason I shy away from it and more toward Jill and Karoline even knowing Karoline can't guard anyone. If Rickea gets in foul trouble we become really dead on the offensive end. I agree getting Van Lith to take as many shots as possible is the best strategy.

Play some zone until they hit outside shots?

Yeah that’s the biggest issue. Could see us starting her on Williams and Puckett on Morrow.

I don’t think we see Striplin much based on the last few games. Unless we have foul trouble in the post I expect 10 or fewer minutes from her.

Have a suspicion Striplin may transfer after this season. Especially if we bring in another couple 4/5 players from the portal which we need desperately.

She’s already looking at playing behind TK and now Jill for another year.

Not sure about that. If we have a healthy TK and a good young post, Karo could play her actual position at 4 and thrive next year, along with Jill.

I feel bad for Karo but it's just circumstance. Someone was going to lose mins when TK came back to form. And obviously you're not going to completely give up on Jill. I'm sure KJH would say it's nothing Karo's done wrong and indeed everyone talks about what a great teammate and hard worker she is. Her time might come around again this year, she has skills to offer.

We talk a lot about how if Kari was three or four inches taller things might look a lot different for her. It’s unfortunate because she’s a hard worker and very talented, but you can’t teach height and length. To your point though, it would be a dream to be able to play her as a 4.

Plus were going to need to load up in the portal if we can cause of the huge number of graduations in 2024. With just four returning players and one of them a recruited freshman we need to use all four of our remaining scholarships on portal players and go with 15 players in 2024. All four need to be two years to play players and even then you only have a roster of 8 depending on who you can get in the 2025 class which needs to be at least four more players. The staff might actually welcome some of these one more year to play players to leave if they are capable of getting two years to play players from the portal.
