Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Well, some not so good news for SC fans, as their star PG recruit from the 2024 class Madisen McDaniel injured her knee the other night and required surgery, prob a 6-9 mos recovery, I guess the good part for Gamecock fans is that they can easily redshirt her next season and get her back to 100%, SC has plenty of guard depth coming back. Madisen joins 2024 post player Tac as an incoming recruit (TAC has already enrolled) that will be rehabilitating a season ending injury and likely redshirts as well. At least Edwards remains healthy from that class so far.

I agree i think Madisen will more then likely redshirt but could be wrong. Post player Tac is already in rehab it was a issuse to correct her knee cap. So she should be ready to go for summer workouts.

Yeah, maybe I was hoping CDS would decide to RS TAC and get her built up physically, but I have seen some reports that speculate she may be ready by summer. She could benefit from a RS year imo though, she was injury prone in HS and need to get her completely healthy and beefed up some. As long as Feagin returns next season, SC is solid for post players in 2024-25.

Watkins should become an All SEC post player by next year and Feagin is pretty good as her backup there with Walker as insurance. I prefer having a team with only 10-11 players that see the floor, when it gets more crowded than that it’s hard for the coach to find everyone meaningful minutes. If you are going to RS a player, do it their freshman season, esp if coming off an injury. Those two were likely not going to be big contributors next season anyway. I still wish Chloe had taken a RS last year, the few minutes she played cost her a year of eligibility, she should be a freshman this year.

She’s better off. She’d be 3rd or 4th string PG next season. At least Paopao will have graduated by the time she’s ready to play, and she can play behind Raven and Fulwiley for a year before moving into a starter role.

True about Tac she can redshirt but i think having one of the best strength and conditioning coach works in the favor of Tac plus no one knows what Feagin is will do after the season

I’d be shocked if Feagin transferred. Unless she graduates in 3 years, she’d need to sit a year since schools require more than 1 year worth of credits at their institution to get a diploma.

She could transfer and play immediately
Can't everyone? Didn't a court just rule that? Some people who were sitting out this year got to play immediately when that ruling came down. Pretty sure it's free transfer all the time right now.
Yes she can transfer and play immediately. And after 1 year, she will have used up her basketball eligibility and will either need to leave her new school without a degree, or pay for 1 year tuition out of pocket to get the degree. No school will hand out a bachelor’s degree if you are only there for 1 year.

Now that Covid extra year is gone, the only reason a player should transfer going into their fourth year is if they finished their undergraduate degree and are transferring as a grad student.

Or if they thought they could help their draft status by going to a team that might feature them more…Feagin has the size and skills to play professionally, esp if she continues to improve her defense, which she has been doing. If nothing else, CDS teaches and preaches defense, has always been that way and all of her players learn the importance of that side of the ball.

Still scenario #1 where they leave college well short of receiving their degree. And no offense to Feagin, but she’d be a fool to think that particular risk would be worth the WNBA reward. She’s got a ways to go to prove she’s worthy of a draft pick, let alone a roster spot.

Ok is giving Texas a bit of a game, looks like OSU is starting to pull away a bit against UM, still tighter than I expected. KSU is in a game at half also, might be interesting tonight after all.

Feagin will likely get a shot at a roster spot when she graduates, she has the tools and size, don’t look at her production at SC as the barometer, she gets few minutes there but almost always shows out when she gets some time, perfect size and athleticism plus a nice skill set. She has been behind Boston and now Watkins and Cardoso her whole career, three first round types, but she has game. CDS has been hard on Feagin, trying to entrench great defense into her game as she has brought her along, albeit too slowly for many like myself.

Hard to say. She has games where the opportunity is there for her to make an impact and she either has no shown or just kind of blended into the background. That's not going to get the attention of GMs. Even Saxton, who was a 3 year starter, only went in the 3rd round and she played a lot more than Feagin does.

Any way you cut it, she's at best a marginal WNBA prospect. So the hypothetical scenario of her leaving SC to go to another program for one year with the hope that she improves her WNBA draft stock (at the expense of a college degree) is not a wise move...especially given how competitive it is for even first round picks to stick around for more than a year or two.

64-63 Texas 5:40 4th OU has gone in to a zone Texas no outside shooting none
This is the lowest quality last 5 minutes of basketball I've seen this year. Middle school boys shows more fundamental skills. This is an absolute embarrassment. Bad bball IQ and nonexistent fundamentals by both teams.

If Vic is gonna rely on fr Booker to try and carry Texas not gonna work. Don't get me wrong she is good but she need help.
I mean, can the Texas post players jump? The rebounding was just pathetic. Texas kept giving them opportunity after opportunity to win.

Clark hits her first 5 shots. 4 three pointers and one old fashioned 3 point play. Not much can be done when she's hitting from 25 feet.

Texas can't even get the rebound now they are down by 1 both teams are not very good
In the last 30 seconds, Texas gave up 4 offensive rebounds, had 2 turnovers and I don't even know what that end of game shot by Booker was.

And yes, both teams are terrible.
