Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Well looks like she wants to stay… tbh in this business now once you find success it’s hard to want to rebuild elsewhere

I think it would be in her best interest to stay for at least another couple seasons and show she can maintain that success. We’ve seen a few jump right after having a great team and they can never get their new program off the ground.

Like the OK State coach. She leveled up but it doesn’t appear to be working after she had success at UMKC.

Katie Meier retires from Miami, didn’t see that one coming. Only 56 so makes you wonder if they gave her the option instead of canning her. Wouldn’t be surprised to see her coaching somewhere else in a year or two.

They will have some players in the portal. We were in on Lattimore when she transferred the first time but I don’t think we would pursue her again.

Oldacre has been a bust. If we are going for a big like that I like Merkel from Bellarmine way better. Moves better, rebounds better and finishes better.

Big agree really thought Oldacre would tear it up in the post-less ACC

Many a coach makes the mistake chasing a check just to end up having to rebuild their old mid major success elsewhere

Brooks not exactly denying it.

Exactly the reason the portal opens when it does. If coaches are gonna do this while their team is still playing I see no reason players shouldn’t have the same opportunity.

If he takes the Kentucky job I almost guarantee he brings Amoore with him. She’ll have a nice welcome to SEC defense.

Between Kitley being out and this story spinning, I have to imagine that locker room is not in the mental place you'd want your team to be at this point 😳

It wasn’t last year either. They had so much drama. Idk why anyone wants to play for him. He plays favorites and seeds division among his players.

Completely agree. I’m over here just smashing like on all your points about Kenny. He seems like he just sows drama, and I’m not sure why people would want to play for him. But if he can interview for a new job while their star player is sidelined with an ACL tear that will impact the start of her W career, they should be allowed to also explore new and perhaps greener pastures.

I posted a while back about VT and Brooks not saying much about Kitley and she was more then likely done for the season. I don't why schools and coaches do that.

Usually to avoid getting tagged with a lower seed in the NCAA because they lost their best player.

It’s private medical information so not everyone needs to know the exact issue. But if it is season ending they should be required to disclose that. Ridiculous to lead people on like she could come back for the NCAAT when all along they knew she was done for sure.

I expect them to make an early exit in the tournament without Kitley. Amoore just cannot carry the whole team and doesn’t have enough help.

It's common practice now. Part of the uber secrecy about injuries. Kansas men's team just did it - announced a day or two after selection Sunday that they're leading scorer would miss the tourney.

The LVs did a version of this on RIckea's injury. Said she was 'day to day' for weeks until finally saying after a month it was always 4-6 weeks. Trying to keep opponents guessing if she'd play or not.

NFL has rules against this, teams have to release an honest injury report 5 days or so before every game so opponents have an idea who to plan for.

Rarely agree with NFL rules but college basketball could benefit from something similar. Just be honest. You know you don’t have that player anyway, just prepare you team and go on.

You said it best

Our ceiling is now 4th place in the SEC until we make a change.
Yeah let’s see how good Kenny does without kitley and Amoore first. Got blown out of the ND game without Kitley alone. Heard some nasty stuff about how he runs his program but rumors so I won’t spread but u can look at the Owusu situation

You’re forgetting the transfer portal exists. He can bring players over from VT and also he’ll get a lot of interest from other transfers. He could very well start Year 1 with a better team than UT.

Yeah it wasn’t a good look last year that his players were literally Twitter beefing at halftime of an NCAA tournament game.
