Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

without doubt the best women's team in TN this year...
Would love to see Middle Tennessee try to compete against the Lady Vols with Rickea Jackson playing and doing the Kia Jackson things she does along with tamari playing extended minutes and Jillian available. Striplin scoring 29 points the last time is an indicator that the game would not go very well for Middle.

This should be interesting if true…

This was make for some great shady conversation, no doubt. Unfortunately I don’t believe anything will actually come of it. LSU will never get rid of Mulkey no matter what (just like with Baylor). And the types of players who would chose to play for Mulkey — well, we all knew exactly what kind of person she was before she even left Baylor. The only thing that will matter is if she starts losing.

Joanie Taylor has to be the one of the most overpaid and underwhelming coaches in the country. She recruits really well, but cannot win. To think we were down to Coulibaly' final two. Had she come to Tennessee she would have much higher draft stock and would be a bookend to Rickea not to mention, I have no idea what has happened with Barker. She once showed the potential to have the scoring potential of someone like Rickea Jackson. You watch her on this team, she looks uncertain most of the time which has obviously destroyed her confidence. Not sure how Joanie was ever named COY in the SEC, but it seems like every player who has ever played for her regress's and never come close to their potential. A&M needs to boot her, lick their wounds and count their losses.

Wild that she makes more than Kellie and delivered those results this year. It’s a real shame and, if I was Janiah Barker, I’d be looking to transfer somewhere I could better develop.

Yeah Barker gotta get out of there if she wants to be a pro.

Based on last night I do think she’s leaving A&M, she was checked out and Joni wasn’t really speaking to her. Taylor looked unusually salty about something all night. That locker room has been spicy I think.

I’ve beaten this horse before, but Caliya Robinson was one of the most athletic, most potential players I ever saw. She consistently regressed or stayed the same under Taylor. She was such a waste of a talent with her size and athleticism she should still be in the W.

Joni recruits a lot of nice players but when’s the last time she had a pro??

If I were a player wanting to go pro, I'd certainly be looking at where those top draft pick went to college. Some of it is their talent, but a coaching staff that makes you better is HUGE.

I don't disagree that Taylor is overrated, but also wonder how much of the issue is Barker? Obviously all we can go off of is what we hear and rumors, but it seems like Barker isn't the most coachable player there ever wàs. Could be wrong, but where there's smoke there's fire and she seems like a lot to manage. The type of player that Harper, imo, wisely stays away from to maintain culture and locker room peace.

Totally fair and kind of speculating based on their interactions. It’s a relationship, and that usually means both parties are at fault somehow but the amount of fault can vary. Edited to clarify that my relationship is the exception as I am perfect and never at fault for anything at all whatsoever.

Janiah has always been a handful, always a showboat. Remember her antics at the McD AA game? What seemed like fun then has devolved into a player totally in her own head. As I posted before, I've watched her up close and personal a couple of times lately and it's quite sad. Barker badly needs to reset and to consult a sports psychologist.

I'm not sure Barker would have made the amount of national teams that she's made in her playing time with USA Basketball if she was unmanageable or uncoachable. Yes it may seem like them looking in, but when team USA is looking at players to fill spots for our national teams, they are looking at the overall person as well as the talent they bring.
