Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Based on Geno’s post game comments I think Fudd is done. Really sad for her, her body just isn’t made for it.

"She got herself in an awkward situation. She was walking around fine, it didn't look like worst case scenario ... We'll know more when we get back. I hope I'm right that it's not that worst case scenario that we've seen so many times before"

That is his exact quote. Sounds like he’s trying to be positive but idk. Based on her history I think her career is likely over. Just too many knee problems.

Yes. When she immediately walked off the floor and to the locker room it seemed like she knew. Actually when she felt it happen, the dreaded non contact, you could see it on her face. Really ashamed.

I genuinely hope not, but won't be surprised if the same thing happens to Paige before the year is over.

One way Azzi can really contribute to the sport is to allow extensive study on why her body isn't made for it. Something structurally that's different? It can't just be coincidence at this point. Every bit of info the sport can gather on these awful injuries would be important.

I’m curious about their diet. Truly. They are both so stringy. Seems like maybe they aren’t getting enough protein, collagen and fats to support strong, healthy bones and ligaments.

What? Maybe it's my old eyes but Azzi looks quite sturdy to me. She and Paige seem like total different body types.

At this point I think it’s just too much wear and tear. She is very slight though. None of the UConn players are very strong outside of Strong. Bunch of string beans.

Your diet affects so much though, you truly are what you eat. I can remember players over the years having trouble with their diet and it’s really hard to stay healthy if you aren’t supplying your body with the proper nutrients.

Sasha Goforth and Shea Ralph are two prime examples. Both with disordered eating and careers riddled with injury.

I'm sure the UConn AD and Nutritionists have looked into this extensively. Ditto their S & C departments. Every bit of info gained will help others. Most likely just the body structure of these particular kids.

Totally agree about the wear and tear. By the time they even get to college they've played hundreds of games and thousands of practices and work outs. It's one thing that worries me about our players. They're getting wear and tear on steroids. Will be interesting to see if heaven forbid we start to pay a price for those extra miles.

After reading about it -- I didn't see most of their blowout victory -- I have a more positive gut feeling about Fudd's injury. I truly hope she'll be good to go next time they play. 🤞🏻
I sure hope it is minor. But you could see how much it's in her head and Geno's. His remarks post game almost seemed resigned to eventually losing her. And it's certainly uppermost on Azzi's mind - she pulled up immediately and got the same uh oh look on her face my lil grandson gets right before he has a bathroom accident while playing outside. She def felt something. Limped gingerly thru a couple of more plays until Paige, who knows this all too well, called t.o. And Azzi went straight to the lockerroom.

I think our staff are doing an excellent job with both strength and conditioning which definitely helps prevent injury. If you have stronger muscles you have stronger ligaments.

I’ve often suspect UConn does a TON of cardio and are in superb basketball shape but are not doing the strength training to go along with it.

You cannot deny the number of injuries they have had compared to other top programs. Something just seems off about it.

Fudd is extremely muscular, you can tell she lifts alot of weight. I think just the repeat knee damage is taking its toll.

I would not call her extremely muscular. Especially outside of her biceps. She has nice arms but she is not a strong build.

Not much going on until later today. UCLA at Washington could be a fairly good game. They only lost to LSU by one point. SC vs TCU game of the day could be fairly close game.

I’m going to try to catch Minnesota/Nebraska. I think that will be a good game.

Dawn Plitzuweit can coach some dang basketball. Has Minnesota off to a 10-0 start. Haven’t played any really tough teams but still significantly better than they have been for a long time. Really like the way her teams play, they gave everyone a fit when she was at South Dakota.

She already got them back above .500 in her first season last year. Got hammered in the Big-10 though. That’s the next step for them is proving they can compete in their conference.

ND has been so wildly inconsistent. They look so good sometimes and then so checked out other times.

Really makes you wonder how good USC actually as. I think they’re 95% hype, poorly coached and one dimensional with an inefficient volume player in Watkins.

It is an exact quote except you left out the first sentence.

“After the win, Auriemma said Fudd was walking around and appeared “fine.”
