Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

I wonder if the LVs home scorer is getting a raise. Whoever keeps statistical record of subbing must be pulling their hair already.

Ha! I hadn’t even thought of that until now. You’re probably right — the constant subbing is probably a hellish nightmare to the folks who have to keep an accurate record on who’s in and for how long. Yikes. Glad that’s not my job! 😅

The LIve Stats run a play by play which includes every sub. You wouldn't believe how much longer that thing is now.

Talking about Karo reminds me to say that it's rare that a transfer from Tennessee has excelled at her new program, so it has been sweet to see both Karo and Marta do so well this season. Both left Tennessee is excellent standing, and so we can all feel good they've fared so well.

I won't mention any names, but I can think of a number of players from the past who possibly eventually regretted transferring from Tennessee based on pretty much disappearing from any mention, so these happy endings for these two particularly special young women make me smile.
one of them is the dad at Vandy.. he has been getting a little crazy against TN on twitter

You could make the argument they recruit the best to let them play, let them get all their laurels, etc. And no doubt the star player feels that way. It's just that going that route around one star is rarely successful for the team in the long run. Esp nowadays when so many teams have athletic players who can defend. Causes the star to force too much. Also, just by odds, increases the risk of injury.

Once again, this can be filed among the problems CKC will never have. I wonder if the LVs home scorer is getting a raise. Whoever keeps statistical record of subbing must be pulling their hair already.
CKC certainly does not. Cooper is averaging 38 points per 40 minutes played. Her average for 22 minutes is 21 ppg. I don't know if she would be averaging 38 or even thirty by playing all 40 minutes. Her average for 22 minutes is amazing and it is not at team expense cause she is shooting 56 percent and 40 percent from the three. Cooper has performed way better than Watkins for her team and it hasn't been just against the cupcakes she lit Iowa and Florida State up too.

One determining factor is if that player is the only starter getting those mins. That was the complaint of TSpoon's use of Angel to ensure her double doubles. Honestly not sure how many starters were still in with a 60 pt lead when JuJu got hurt. I guess bottom line is if you leave them in, you take the risk of injury and the criticism if it happens.

And again, that apparently would never be a problem w CKC. LOL she seems more like someone who would leave them out just to toughen them up and keep them humble.
Saw basically the same thing with Latson yesterday. Wyckoff kept her in until about 1 minute left in the blowout, seemingly so she could score her 30th point, because she went to the bench once she finally got it.

It's true. Cooper is 2nd in the country in points per 40 minutes among players who are playing at least 20 minutes per game, behind only Latson (40.5 points per 40 minutes).

I think the subbing will slow down some come conference play. I can see about five of the players getting upper twenties in minutes as the others slip to the low teens or even single digit.

It's a tough call. You want the individual to get all the accolades they can plus it's good publicity for the program and recruiting. It still seems kind of yucky and SO dangerous. When you have THAT player go down, like we did last yr, it can be devastating.

The danger of stat padding on a cupcake. They play UConn next:

She didn’t stat pad anything, they have a lot of new players that need reps, plenty of players are in games late in blowouts. Juju doesn’t need to stat pad because all she wants to do is win.

What are you talking about, Tspoon didn’t leave Reese in for double doubles, Reese was the only rookie in the league with a positive plus-minus, they weren’t getting blown out like you think. You could have mentioned the other player that was in late game blowouts to pad her stats and her coach let it happen.

Both Clark and Reese were chasing stats. Reese's double double streak ended with her own teammate dribbling the ball out for the last 9 seconds of the game.

Like I’ve said before I have no issue with a player chasing stats when on an all time streak or having an historic game and that goes for any player.

I’ve watched both play this season and even with the discrepancy in stats it’s still even. Marta wouldn’t be a top 5 or 6 option at Tennessee. I think with the way she’s playing right now Jillian Hollingshead could put up similar numbers at a program like California.
Sara is struggling but I expect her to improve her play soon.
I think it’s due in part to having to adjust to getting fewer opportunities due to playing with better talent.
She seems to be rushing her shots a lot on offense even with wide open looks. I believe seeing her teammates take one or two dribbles to make a move and score has kind of impacted how she’s trying to play in this system.
Have to disagree on Hollingshead.

Urrr, ummm, errr…didn't we just create some record stats? Against a badly wounded cupcake?
Yeah but we played everyone extensive minutes and no one over 24; most 20 or less and USC has games where they are up 40 against nobody teams and leave Watkins in 32 plus minutes and a few of the bench players get 4-6. That's the difference and that is trying to pad an individual players stats.

If that's the case and those other players who are getting 6-8 minutes max while Watkins is playing 32 plus in these blowout games, juju needs to learn to pass the ball because she continues to force up 3 times the amount of shots than her closest teammate. It's forced shots and it's not a good look. Shooting percentages don't lie.

I'm jealous of this opportunity these programs are getting with this. They probably need the money the least of any program besides LSU.

Hopefully Tennessee will get next.

Seriously, I’m not trying to go back and forth just wanted to ask.
What do you think the Womens Champions Classic is? Next? Tennessee was hand picked to be apart of a tourney that drew 10,000 fans in a televised event on a major network.

I’m not against this tourney but it’s nothing to be jealous about. Good for teams participating but I expect Tennessee as with the Womens Champions Classic will have their share of opportunities to play in additional high profile events.

As for NIL, see the top transfer portal class in the SEC and #1 HS recruiting class according to 247Sports.
The LV NIL is healthy.
Trust me, Tennessee doesn’t need the money.
Again congrats to the schools.

perhaps a reunion of fathers - pointers from Mr. Hayes now that his four daughters have almost finished their college careera. (smile) and Tn only had one of the four for a brief time.
