Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

With Feagin graduating, SC needs to find a post player with skills in the portal, hopefully Tac develops, but I doubt Dawn sits on that as her only option to pair with Kitts and Edwards. I feel fairly confident Tac will develop into a good player, but you have to cover your bases these days.

Makeer will slot into the 2 and 3 spots, helping to replace both Pao Pao and Hall. I am fairly certain Raven will return for her last year, so the PG slot is in good shape between her and McDaniels. Next year’s starting 5 should look like this:
Kitts (25-26 min per game prediction)
Edwards (28-29 min per game)
Fulwiley (25-26 min per game)
Raven Johnson (24 min per game)
Tessa Johnson (21 min per game)

Top three off bench will be McDaniels, Tac and Makeer imo. The bench is obviously not going to be as stout, but the starting five will be better. It’s entirely possible McDowell will be the surprise in this class, ranked #22 she looks the part of Bree Hall, awesome defender and great shooter from outside. That type always gets PT from Dawn. Starters will average close to 25-28 minutes per game next season, big change from pst 3 years.

Expect one big pull from Staley out of the portal, likely a 4 or 5 player. The train keeps rolling.
You forgot about Watkins.

You forgot about Watkins.
She won’t be back until late January. Prob won’t be full go until March if then. She is the ace in the hole for tourney time next year, but tbh they have to plan for without her. That way it doesn’t hurt so much if she needs an extra year to get back fully.

The coin has Texas on one side and SC on the other.
Yes, I saw the other day what the coin looks like. I was mainly suggesting that a single toss of a coin in which one or the other coach gets to call it, is deeply flawed. I don't know what the solution would be, but the coin toss ain't it for me.

If it is going to take her that long to get back, she will probably redshirt.
She won’t, but she should. She is focused on getting to the WNBA as soon as possible, and tbh, she will be a better W player than college player, she is without peers in athleticism at her size. She knows it.

Neither coach calls it. Nobody calls it. Commish flips and one side is Texas the other SC, that’s it. I would think they could find a better answer like you. SC beat TX by 17 at home, lost by 4 on the road. SC has the better offense and the better defense Based upon conference numbers as well as full schedule numbers. SC has a better Quad 1 record, has more top ten wins etc etc etc, but ok, they want to flip a coin. So flip the darned coin. Won’t change anything imo.

Makeer:

“I know my goals and who I want to be in the future, and I personally feel like South Carolina will get me there," Makeer said of her decision. "The conversations and interactions I've had with Coach Staley and the coaching staff have been genuine from the very beginning. ... Usually on visits and during calls, head coaches will stay out of most of it. Coach Dawn attended every single part of my official visit and was in the lead of a lot of my recruitment.

"I expect a competitive environment in every aspect of my life. I'm going to a school that is a front-runner to win back-to-back national championships. Everything I get will be earned, and I am excited to test who I am. I don't expect it to be easy, but I do expect that I will be challenged in a positive learning environment."

That is the attitude every head coach loves to hear. She is going to be fine to say the least with that head on her shoulders. She may be underrated at #4 btw, she came onto the scene late, coming from Canada, but she blew up in the rankings at the World Cup last summer playing for her country, she was the best player in that international tourney. She might be the steal of this class tbh.

Iv’e never seen a more dominant performance by any other Big Ten player as far as I can remember, and Juju is only a sophomore. Came to a conference in her 1st season and took over and rewriting history for the better. When it’s all said and done, when people think of the BIG TEN they will think of Juju Watkins, and like she said she runs LA, atleast for now✌️

And I thought UConn was Makeer's dream school?

Captain Will says she's a taller version of Tiffany Mitchell.

Dawn is looking to sign a "big" from the transfer portal.

She wants to build her own path, of course she will give them an opportunity to try to win her over, but she would never go there and that’s just how I feel. Juju was always staying in Los Angeles and I’m glad she did, I could say more but I’ll leave it at that.
Maybe she transfer to UCLA to play with their big center who transfer from Stanford university.
Stay on the West Coast help win national championship were players don't have share the spotlight with big name coaches LSU -South Carolina - unconn - coaches

Maybe stay close to home was the biggest pull or the university campus non basketball environment had something to do with her decision to.

That’s what she said. But we don’t know what happened behind the scene. Could have been as simple as she didn’t vibe with the UConn campus. Who can say what goes on in the mind of a top teenage athlete.

I’m a little bummed but most people on the UConn board felt like she wasn’t coming here anyway due to the crowding at the 3/4 spot.
