Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Guessing it will be Mir and Piath. Maybe Griffin too, since it looks like she's getting pushed further down the rotation with the newcomers.

I think Griffin stays at UConn there is no one to push her. It will be all about recruiting for Ralph if she can`t then she will be in trouble.

The only thing Griffin would be an immediate starter at Vandy so would MIr. UConn has 14 on scholarship now only about nine are going to play meaningful minutes.

Recruiting at Vandy is a far different task than recruiting at UConn. Getting them competitive in the SEC has to be the first goal. Nationally maybe someday going to take a lot of work and some really outstanding recruiting.

Yep and being a HC is way different than being an assistant. Sometimes it goes well, like Walz or Tina Langley.

Sometimes it’s a crash and burn...as we know all too well.

And therein lies the problem. The fanbase shouldn't be dictating hires, as it clearly did in this case...
The Tennessee fanbase did not dictate the Harper hiring. I remember that a couple of others were talked about a lot more. How do you know the fanbase was calling for her to be hired above everyone else? I have not heard them asking for any specific person to be named.

I think Darth is talking about the fanbase wanting the head coach to be a former Lady Vol.

On here it was mostly the opposite from what I recall. Everyone was a little hesitant with her hire. I was one of them. Have been pleasantly surprised though.

I had really hoped for Walz or Wes Moore. Had a crazy pipe dream of us coaxing Mulkey away from Baylor too. She was mad at the school at the time and has always loved and respected Pat and what she did at UT.

No, the problem would be not having many fans supporting the program...which is a big problem that Vanderbilt has now. Last time I was there for a Lady Vol game, Feb. 2020 before covid shut down the world, there were 25 Tennessee fans to every 1 Vandy fan.....and Vandy gave free tickets to employees for that game!!

It's clear Fulmer went into the hire with the intention of finding the best possible candidate regardless of affiliation or gender. The blue hairs had other ideas.

If you don't think that's how it went down, I don't know what to tell ya...

To me this is a bad sign. She hired some great coaches, but to have to fire your assistants and replace them in year two? Nah, that ain’t it. Tells me she’s on the block. If they don’t play better she’ll be out this season.

Usually see assistant changes like this after year 3 when they are struggling. Making staff changes to buy some time. I don’t think the MSST AD was probably very impressed with her first season.

I think one of them quit to take a coaching job and they other was let go. One thing I did notice is that Nikki let go of her mid-major assistant coach and got someone from a P5. Seems she realizes that she's not in ODU anymore...

I figured that she would take MSST all the way to the SEC cellar this year, but to my surprise she kept her two best players and brought in 2 studs. If she can grab a pair of posts in the portal or JUCO ranks, she might actually keep MSST competitive with the upper half of the SEC next season.

Darth, you know better. You're just too butt-hurt over her hiring to give her a chance.

I remember gender playing a huge part in the contingency's choice here

The “blue hairs” is such an interesting concept. Who are these individuals who some believe have such a huge voice in all LV decisions. Do they have names? How did they come about such outsized influence? Are they giving big bucks? Are they like an orange and blue deep state? Normally older women are the most overlooked segment of the population so this is fascinating to hear of the power base they have established at UT. Do you think this is the start of world wide domination?
Or, are they just older ladies who are loyal fans and proved to be convenient targets for whiney butts who didn’t get their way?

How many women are HC of Div 1 men’s teams? Oh, that’s right...
As a caveat, I don’t have a problem with men coaching the women. If I had a basketball playing daughter I would be thrilled to have her play for a Gary Blair. I do get aggravated when some folks complain if a school might prioritize a woman coach for their women’s team. Our LVs who want to go into coaching have a shot at 50% of the college bb coaching jobs. Our Young men Vols will have a shot at 100% of those jobs. Don’t see reason to complain we didn’t hire a man.
