Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

She is an established coach now first four seasons at Baylor she went 37 and 27 in the Big 12 then she got it rolling a little had another couple bad conference finishes. In the last 10 seasons she has owned the conference. Another coach showing it takes about four seasons to build your program and if you haven't done it by then may be time to look elsewhere. Already a well established coach she will be able to come to LSU get enough talent there to win right away. I think some players from the portal move with her. We may also see some present Baylor players do so as well.

I don't see her owning the SEC like she did the Big 12 to many teams that will be highly competitive and also very talented to compete with.

It comes down to $$$. LSU has it. Tennessee did not, and would not today. The athletic department is still paying out coaches who were dismissed before contracts expired. Covid has not helped.

That would be a good excuse if those buyouts weren’t almost completely financed by the football boosters. And COVID has f*** all to do with anything since Kellie was hired before COVID.

Quit sheepdogging for Fulmer and the rest of the infinitely incompetent athletic department.

I will never understand how she kept that job for 10 years. She was average at best. I thought she was a good hire when it happened. Shows what I know. LSU had some good to great coaches before hiring her.
Now they are going all in on Baylor coach. Someone must have discovered that the athletic department can break even or make a profit on women’s basketball if the team is top notch. The Lady Vols did it for years I think.

Nobody is "sheepdogging" for anyone, you jackass! I'm just stating what is fact. If you want to Tennessee to pay $2 million for a women's basketball coach when they don't have the money, how about you give them the funds!

Ten years ago (or more) there were a few WCBB teams that made money, but you could count them on one hand. In the past decade, every single WCBB program and every other women's college sports team has lost money. For men, some (not all) Division I college football and basketball teams turn a profit. All other men's sports teams lose money.

In the past two years, a number of colleges have eliminated entire teams and non-revenue programs to reduce costs.

Some schools, such as Notre Dame, UConn, Texas, Stanford and now (possibly) LSU are willing to pay huge salaries to their WCBB coaching staffs (and lose tons of money) because having a championship team is a point of pride for their university. But every dollar the university loses to carry a non-profitable sports team is one less dollar available to educate the next generation. At the end of the day, what is the primary purpose of higher education?

And she is 40 years old and has never coached a basketball game.

Her only claim to fame: played for Pat Summitt (no title) and was ESPN talking head for several years.

I said it from when she was hired that coaches now needs to be known by people. I can't imagine if we had hired kara or Candace , especially Canadace, recruits will be running in whether she coched be4 or not she's well known.

Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, others of the greatest BB players of all time have tried to coach and failed,,,then Juwan Howard, Bill Laimbeer andothers you would never expect to be great, take to it like they were born to do it.

Coaching is much more than filling out rosters and acquiring players...so very much more

Larry Bird was a very successful head coach with no previous coaching experience, but he is the exception.

In 1997, Bird accepted the position of coach of the Indiana Pacers[96] and said he would be on the job for no more than three years.[97] Despite having no previous coaching experience, Bird led the Pacers to a 58–24 record—the franchise's best as an NBA team at the time—in the 1997–98 season,[98] and pushed the Chicago Bulls to seven games in the Eastern Conference Finals.[98] He was named the NBA Coach of the Year for his efforts.[99] Bird then led the Pacers to consecutive Central Division titles in 1999 and 2000 and a berth in the 2000 NBA Finals.[98] Bird resigned his head coaching position shortly after the end of the 2000 season, following through on his initial promise to coach for only three years.[100]

bad example,,,I admit that

If UT wanted the women’s team to be a championship program again, they would have found the money to pay whoever they wanted what they wanted. LSU wants to be more than just average and they are going out and paying big time money.

I don’t know how one of the programs that really pushed women’s basketball into the National scene wants to pay the minimal and hope for good results. I hope Kellie does well, but I don’t think she is going to consistently beat Dawn and Kim on a year to year basis. She definitely won’t and hasn’t out recruited them. We have not and will not be beating out either of those coaches for players they want. You get what you pay for....I would love for some of these people who cannot ever admit that Kellie was an underwhelming hire, to admit that LSU just made us look like amateurs. They went out and got one of the top 3 coaches in America....while UT has a coach that can’t get a HS All-American to believe in her.

If it’s Mulkey to Baylor... the SEC just got even more interesting.

SC, Georgia, A&M, UT, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Miss State, Alabama, and now LSU... her coming will make the other coaches improve but... wow.

That’s the biggest get the transfer season if indeed she goes. Wow.
