Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Yep I’ve made that point on here several times. That’s why I shared that. Tina is one of the all time great WBB players. That hasn’t translated well to coaching.

Stephanie White was the same. I said when she was hired at Vandy that would be a crash and burn. Everyone told me I was nuts because she was such a great player.

I’m genuinely curious what made you so certain she’d crash and burn?

Difference being Saban is still winning nattys on the regular. Been awhile for Geno. He just doesn't seem to be enjoying it anymore to me.

You know things are good when 2016 is "awhile." I can't speak to whether Geno still enjoys it, but the fact is UConn is still the ONLY program that goes to the Final Four every. single. year.

I was actually very excited when they announced her. Thought she was a great hire and that she could possibly really get them going. She always seemed really put together when she did broadcasts. Plus she was an excellent player. Followed it pretty closely because it’s always been a rivalry game.

Soon as she took over everything just seemed very negative. She was hypercritical of everything and was not at all complimentary of the previous staff. Even though Balcomb’s tenure ended a little murky she did a really nice job at Vandy. Kept them very competitive, eventually she just couldn’t recruit quite well enough to cut the mustard in the SEC.

From the first game I watched White coach it was obvious her team was not responding to her. I remember making a post after that I thought she might not translate well as a coach based on how things looked to be going to that point.

She was often visibly upset with players during her time there but not in a way that appeared to be productive. That toxicity is really what lead to her demise after the players had a enough and bailed.

Here is a look into Miss St forward Jessika Carter's bout with depression.. Can't judge a situation of book by its cover

Nov 26th was less than two weeks ago. I truly hope she has good people around her. She needs to be focused solely on her mental health right now. I’ve struggled mightily with my mental health over the years and her post actually worries a bit. Your mental status does not make a permanent shift in two weeks when you’re dealing with clinical depression.

Saying big prayers for her.

I was just looking at the players still on that roster uninjured, and I can't help but think about 95% of all programs in women's college basketball would happily trade their own rosters with Connecticut's lefttovers. They should still be good enough to win all but maybe a couple of games.
I was going to say the same thing. They still have a really good roster and I am sure they will use all the naysayers as motivation…just like Rae’s injury brought our team together. Also, let’s not gloat too much, karma is a b@!*#. Let’s be happy our Lady Vols are playing well.

trivia, I have always looked for those at the bottom of the mountain - including women's basketball teams. Agnes Scott a private women's college has not been closer that 40 points to any team they have played. The coach has no bio included. And the only games they may be close is another un-won team they don't play until late January. I can hope the young women have a real passion for the game . And I noticed that many of the teams in their conference may have 15-20 players listed on their roster, Maryville is in their conference thus when they play at Maryville I hope you regulars go and cheer for Agnes Scott.

Last night Iowa and Iowa State had their in state rivalry game.....It was fantastic...Iowa's Caitlin Clark was bombing 3 balls from all over the place, and Ashley Joens for State was firing back in like fashion....

Eventually, Iowa State prevailed this time, but the loser on the scoreboard, Iowa, gave a maximum effort and went down with all guns a blazing....

Both teams had great team ball movement, and of course there were several obvious bad calls by the referees that affected both teams in a negative way.....

Clark hit a 3 ball from around 30 or more feet and acted like it was no big deal....She is one hell of a fine player....

It was a very competitive and enjoyable game to watch. But allow me to add a few details.
Clark is an outstanding talent, but could use a bit more discretion in her play. She did score 26 points, but took 26 shots to get there (10 of 26), with 6 turnovers.
Joens also had 26 points, with 11 rebounds. But she took 28 shots (9 of 28 and 1 of 9 from 3), many of them forced. I thought both players, took it upon themselves, to try to do just a little bit more than they should have.

Louisville for sure. GA Tech possibly. Not sure about UCLA...seems they have their own injuries.

The shallow bench is also going to require lots of minutes for the 3 remaining guards, so hopefully there aren't any further injuries from overuse. He may have to go with a 3-big lineup a bit.

I think he starts Westbrook (6'0") at PG, Williams (5'10") at SG and Docharme (6'2") at wing. Agree they will try a 3 big lineup at times also.

Sort of agree and disagree at the same time. Whether PB is back or not, they’re still a team of some of the highest rated players in the country, Fudd will be back and wanting to show what she can do especially while PB is out, they have that Coach, and they will have plenty of time to work on their game without PB. When she comes back, their team will probably be better, just like our team got better to compensate for Rae being out.

On the other hand, our team can outwork them, our Defense is stout, Tamari blocks a lot of shots, our Offense is getting better, and our players are strong minded. We’ll also have a determined Coach. We can beat them.

GO LADY VOLS!!!
Great post.

Nice pickup for Nicki

Littlepage-Buggs just became my new favorite non LV player. Not just bc she has the coolest name ever, but also bc that video is a masterpiece of lovable gratitude and humility.

In general, as a curmudgeon, I hate that recruitment and commitment has become a cheesy, self-aggrandizing cringeworthy social media event. But this one is the sweetest, most genuine, most well thought-out I've ever seen (which admittedly isn't many). Speaks well for her that so many of the folks she named checked were there to play out their segment with her. Very well done, good luck young lady.

Lots of players playing really well in the SEC. Aliyah Boston barely missed a basket 22-25? and averaged 20 something and 15 but still wasn’t even co-player.

Blackwell has been a double double machine she still managed well against Baylor. I’m still not convinced Baylor is all that this season, time will tell. Coulibaly also had a great shooting week. Barely missed a shot as well.

Boston was National player of the week but not her own conference. They gave that honor to two other players, which is fine. The numbers were much in Boston's favor however...:

Blackwell 27MPG/ 13-21 (36 pts) / 15.5 rebounds/ 1.5 AST/ 3.5 TO / .5 STL / 0 BLK

Coulibaly 38 MPG/ 19-28 (48 pts)/ 6.5 rebounds/ 1.5 AST/ 4.5 TO/ 3 STL /1.5 BLK

Boston 23 MPG/ 22-24 (50 pts)/ 15.5 rebounds/ 1.5 AST/ 0 TO/ 1 STL / 3.5 BLK

note*: I did not run those numbers, they were done by a poster on Gamecockcentral's fgf forum/thread on their WBB team (free forum)

Jumps out to me that Boston's doing what she's doing in less time on the court bc they're so good and so deep. The little I've seen from her this year she is quite impressive, has really grown and progressed. Credit to Dawn for ability to develop talent.

For the first time, I'm looking forward to the Boston/Key matchup. Kind of.

That's my guess for who starts in the backcourt as well. The problem is that there is no one left on the bench who can come in for any of them. Maybe Mir McLean, but she's more of an undersized post. Evina and/or Christyn will pretty much need to play the entire games even in blowouts, and will definitely need to be on the court all game long in close contests. They can't really afford to get in foul trouble either.

Other than S.C Uconn still has the best team. But, the problem with Geno is he can't win without 2, or 3 superstars not being in his team. U can give pat middle school players and she would fight and take them far just like Kellie is doing.
