Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

I wouldn't be at all surprised if there was a temporary halt to college sports after New Years.
Many colleges have already returned to virtual instructions.
It doesn't look good.

Halting will do no good. You’re not going to prevent infections by not playing. If anything I’d bet MORE players get infected as they’ll be out and about doing their own thing. 18-22yos are not going to not hang with their friends and family if they aren’t playing ball.

The only thing that will solve the issue is when the NCAA and schools decide to get on with it. COVID is endemic, time to stop letting it control everyone’s life. It’s not going anywhere. Masks and the vaccine are only marginally effective. Thankfully the virus is mutating in the appropriate manner to become more contagious but less virulent.

Within a season or two it’s likely COVID will be a run if the mill URI if nature behaves properly. Should be treated like the flu IMO. If I player is actively sick they don’t play. The contact tracing is asinine. It’s almost impossible to know where someone actually picked up an infection at this point anyhow.

Every team should have all the vaccinations and it is a two or three day disease if you get infected. Some vaccinated people show absolutely 0 symptoms to this new variant. If you have unvaccinated players on your team they should be required to sit out this season as they are the vulnerable ones to as much as two weeks or even more of effects from the disease. This new variant is going to blow through at a very rapid pace probably four to five weeks to reach it's peak and start trending downward. Vaccinated teams should be able to survive that, but having unvaccinated on the team can totally upset that happening.

Even Falsi said it will spike in January after the holidays then go back down. Just pause everything 3 weeks in the 1st part of Jan keep players on campus isolated as a team just practicing and add those 3 weeks of games til end of season and push tourneys back. Delaying the tourneys 3-4 weeks will not be as big of deal as whole season being cancelled. Plus we will be at full strength by then.

ACC revises scheduling policy to avoid forfeits

Games that cannot be played will be rescheduled if possible. If those games can't be rescheduled, they will be considered a no-contest that doesn't affect a team's record.

The change is retroactive to the beginning of the winter sports schedule, meaning it will remove recent forfeits for the Boston College men's basketball team against Wake Forest and the Miami women's basketball team against Duke.

Additionally, men's and women's teams must have at least seven available players and one coach to play a game. If a team elects not to play despite having that available number, the game would then be considered a forfeit.

The Big 12 recently adjusted its policy as well. In an email to The Associated Press, league spokesman Bob Burda said it allows for a game to be considered a no-contest if a team has fewer than six scholarship players and one coach. The league will attempt to reschedule games.

good move. This is the league starting to say “get on with it.”

Still salty about the outcome of the game last night. Was really pulling for a Stanford victory.

Thanks for posting! I just go to the espn Wcbb scores tab and when they don’t list a network I assume it’s not airing.

No problem! I forget to look too. Was surprised it wasn’t being televised so checked the DePaul website. Even there it wasn’t obvious!

WBB does need to help itself. Programs gotta get on the social media wagon and draw interest. Because if it’s not on ESPN or an affiliated network nobody knows! If programs can advertise for networks and draw interest maybe they’d pick up more games.

So the Tennessee men's team can get over 20,000 tonight for their big win over previously undefeated #6 Arizona, but the women are lucky to get half that for their big games?

Kellie was the peoples' choice when she was hired to be the coach, you would think the people would actually come to the games to support her...

Tennessee women only averaging 8100 a game this season. The men close to 17000. This is somewhat reversed at South Carolina where the women average over 12000 and the men about 10000. Was hoping the women would average 9000 this season looks like not going to get there. I expect the men to be pushing over 18000 when all is said and done.

I can't click like on this. It's a fact but I sure don't like it and it makes me sad. Why don't more people support women's teams?

Never going to average 18000 think Pat's teams were over 15000 a lot of years and maybe 16000 one season. I think it could get back to 11000 or so if we can get the expectations up. That would mean upgrading the roster quite a bit and going deeper in the NCAA tourney. This years team is exceeding expectations hopefully if this continues we can get some 10000 crowds for some of the SEC games. A lot of men just don't like women's basketball and they are the major portion of the fans.

Calipari at Kentucky was complaining about the Kentucky womens team having more fans than the mens games ! 🤔. No wait ,,,,, maybe I got that FACT BACKWARDS ? Maybe that’s why ALL MENS ATHLETIC PROGRAMS is usually more popular than womens ! But you might be right if you are talking about Chess , or under water basket weaving ? I don’t know about them ? 🤷‍♂️

Still a niche sport. Any college that can get their students excited about their women's team has the right idea. Catering to almost exclusively just senior citizens as your fanbase is not sustainable.
