Right, even the other student athletes don't get very excited. I noticed Saturday at the Stanford game the men's bball team and a bunch of football players were there and spotlighted on the video. At halftime (they were sitting near me) they left en masse as if school had gotten out early. Clearly had been "encouraged" to put in an appearance but had zero real interest. Plus we were behind by 20 lol.Still a niche sport. Any college that can get their students excited about their women's team has the right idea. Catering to almost exclusively just senior citizens as your fanbase is not sustainable.
I'm surprised that SC women outdraw their men. I haven't paid attention to their crowd makeup before. I wonder if Dawn is successful at getting the students to come to their games?Tennessee women only averaging 8100 a game this season. The men close to 17000. This is somewhat reversed at South Carolina where the women average over 12000 and the men about 10000. Was hoping the women would average 9000 this season looks like not going to get there. I expect the men to be pushing over 18000 when all is said and done.
Seems has to be happening they had over 13000 for the Stanford game. The men have drawn as low as 8000 to a game the women never do that. The exact total thus far this season men averaging 9601 and the the women 10984I'm surprised that SC women outdraw their men. I haven't paid attention to their crowd makeup before. I wonder what the ticket price difference is between their men's and women's games ?Seems has to be happening they had over 13000 for the Stanford game. That is where you get the reason why women outdraw men along with the women's team is elite and the men are average to below. Women 70 dollars for season tickets and men 260 for bottom deck. Women are 45 for upper deck. Men does not state a price.I wonder what the ticket price difference is between their men's and women's games ?
Thanks for that info. I would venture to say that the attendance figures would be quite different, if the ticket prices for their women's games were the same as their men's games. That is where you get the reason why women outdraw men along with the women's team is elite and the men are average to below. Definitely 70 bucks is not very much Lady Vol season tickets are like 115 so a team doing what they are doing would be easy to get behind for 70 dollars. Tennessee at 19000 and 8500 for women far out pace them both in attendance and revenue. Dawn grabbing 2.3 million a season while Kellie is at 950000. Their women's basketball program has to be running a huge deficit eating up some of the football profits. A lot more than is happening at Tennessee. Thanks for that info. I know women's tickets are priced lower, but even if she's giving them away for free, it is still an achievement that the students are showing up. Hopefully, programs that do that will soon get the students to pay for their own tickets and help grow the sport.I believe she’s been known to use personal funds to buy a large number of tickets and gives them away. She’s really become prominent in the community around Columbia. It’s a good way to do it if you can swing it.
Their “ticket sales” are a bit questionable though. Highly doubt they have 13,000 fans purchasing a ticket themselves.
We’ve been trying some novel strategies recently to get more in attendance.
DS is not buying tickets….she did so a few times as a promotion….over the years, last time in 2018 when she matched 400 tickets And got Muschamp to match 500 ticket sales. The extra tickets went to lower income fans. SC sells over 10,000 season tickets to fans each year now. I’m glad they are affordable to all.I know women's tickets are priced lower, but even if she's giving them away for free, it is still an achievement that the students are showing up. I was just happy to see you all put UConn in their place earlier this year. I do like Dawn's energy and enthusiasm. It only helps WCBB as a whole when there is a wide cast of characters to spotlight.DS is not buying tickets….she did so a few times as a promotion….over the years, last time in 2018 when she matched 400 tickets And got Muschamp to match 500 ticket sales. DS has been great for all of WBB, not just SC. She is a great ambassador for the sport, as a player and now as a coach Including all her time playing and coaching for Team USA. And she is tireless in promoting the sport. I don’t always get the hate for her from some here, she has never done anything to hurt the sport, quite the contrary and she has been one of the biggest supporters of Coach PS’s legacy and charity. I suppose some of the negative feelings come from her coaching in the same conference, but I know some of her biggest fans/supporters are former stars from UT who are close friends of hers.
