I really think he should think about wanting to play SC again especially on their home floor. He must like punishment. I expect that game to be a double digit SC win no matter if everyone is back except Bueckers.

It will be competitive, UConn fans love crying out how decimated they are but have 9 5 star players available, time for CGA to earn his pay this year. If he cannot coach a close game against any team with a crew of Ducharme, Ono, Edwards, Westbrook, Williams (she will play vs SC), Dorka etc etc then he is slipping. Maybe he has relied on talent alone for too long.

But seriously, i don't understand why they have imploded. They have enough talent to be a lot more competitive than they've shown lately. Is Kyra pushing all the wrong buttons? Or not pushing any buttons at all? Doesthe locker room have a cancer? I hate to say it, but they are bringing up some sad, bad memories for me of our low times.

That said, if the somehow make it into the NCAA tournament and could get their act together, they could be a team that could win a couple of games.

She should be back by then Or sooner. UConn needs to address the rebounding disparity from last time first and foremost, it was 48-25 in favor of SC. UConn bigs (Ono and Dorka) combined for 8 pts and 8 rebounds. SC bigs (Boston, Cordova) combined for 26 points and 22 rebounds……that’s the diff in game one. That and UConn scoring 3 points in the fourth even with Paige…...

They have stopped playing defense and rebounding almost entirely which is a good indication the coaches have lost them. Lots of accusations that the players have been having personal relationships with one another and it is affecting team chemistry. I believe there is some truth to that just watching them interact several times.

It’s a really strange issue that is tough to navigate in women’s collegiate sports. It doesn’t come up in the men’s game really ever that I can think of. I do believe personal relationships are totally inappropriate within a team though. Too much risk of affecting everyone in a negative manner if it does not work out. I think it’s pretty immature to be more concerned with dating your teammate than winning with them anyhow.

The women’s soccer program at my college had a similar issue. Had been really good and were coming off an NCAA tournament push. They had several girls who started dating one another in the off season and it totally imploded the team. They won like two games the next season. Had a bunch of transfers that were not comfortable with what was going on in the locker room. And disciplinary issues for those who stayed. Two of the girls ended up getting kicked off after trying to fight one of their ex boyfriends. It was just an unholy mess.

I‘ve wondered what the dynamics of Howard, Hunt, and Massengill are with the rest of the team. May be great, who knows. The players just don’t seem totally engaged. And we’ve been there; their talent seems to be under achieving.

That was a nightmare fourth quarter for UConn.

Boston is just the best center in the country. Advantage South Carolina.

I think she will be back for the SC game but will miss the next 2.

Doug Novak is 1000x the coach that Nikki was on her best day. He's actually getting something out of the team and they are playing hard for him even if severely undermanned. It's horrible about her illness and I hope she recovers, but he's clearly the better fit for the program.

Yes, I think they made a mistake hiring Nikki. Not because she cannnot be a good coach. I just think she had the deck stacked against her there.

In terms of how different two coaches can be she and Vic Schaefer were complete polar opposites. Their fan base responded really well to Schafer when he was there. I think they would have had a much better transition if they hired someone like Novak to start with in the same demographic. A bit sad to see them lose their fan support so quickly after it was so good for several years.

For a little bit there The Hump was a super tough place to play.

No tv for the Uconn game tonight? Not that it matters, SH is awful and suspended their best player for this game. Be thankful your fav team is not stuck in such a horrible conference as the BE, most games are unwatchable. In fact, there might be one or two interesting games all season in that conference, it’s sad. I imagine fans of teams in the BE watch more games from the power 5 conferences than their own.
