Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Sports reporter: Kellie, there's this kid, phenomenal point guard…are you recruiting her hard?

CKH: Well, she's really good, but we don't like her voice, so we're looking more at the portal and maybe some JC prospects.

;)

What is this from and who is it about?

Or are you just making a joke?

Do you people lurk on this website just waiting for a chance to respond to any post you don't like. I know the SC posters do guess UConn is lurking in the shadows as well.
I don't lurk, just read. Just making a comment and asking a question. Nothing devious here, why so touchy? Plenty of LV fans on the Boneyard and they are welcome.

I checked out ISlides because of DuCharme's deal. Bought two pair of the coolest slides I have ever seen and mega comfortable. (No, I'm not getting paid for this endorsement.:))

Yes it just seems to obvious here when someone posts something that someone doesn't like about a player on their team they want immediate definitive explanation of why it was said. Not just UConn others fans of other teams do it as well. I know there are plenty of things said about Tennessee and their players. I just don't have time to seek out definitive answers. Hopefully if the posters wants to give you an answer you will get what you need.

I have cross filed it under S for sarcastic P for petty.

But, I am legitimately curious why people dislike her.
Maybe you will get the answer just keep asking. I really don't seek answers like that personally, but I know some people need the answers.

Don’t know about others, but for me:

She’s a drama queen on the court, she constantly seeks the limelight and camera shots and holds onto it as long as possible, even to hold up a game so we can see how upset she is over a call.

Even when she’s not playing, cameras show her on the sideline, so we can see her reactions.

ESPN makes sure her picture is on their site daily, so I’m literally sick of seeing her face.

Because she’s an annoying twerp really. She’s very “look at me, look at me.”

But then if you actually watch when she’s interviewed she acts like a shy 10 year old. You can barely understand what she’s talking about between the “ummmms” and “likes” and she never has anything profound to say. It’s always just an interview about how “famous” she is. I’ve never even heard her talk basketball really.

Very like Diana Taurasi in the way she wants the limelight, but doesn’t actually want to do anything to advance the sport. DT is all about herself as well and I never liked her either.

People here dislike her because she is really, really good and she plays for UConn. Sorta' like the same reason UConn fans disliked Parker. She was really, really good and she played for Tennessee. If Bueckers played for Tennessee this board would be overwhelmed with people praising her.

What I don't understand, Argonaut, is why a CT fan like you would actually keep insisting on hearing the specifics about why some folks aren't big fans of hers.

I mean, if you reaaaaaallllly want me to go into it, on a public message board for all to see, I could easily fulfill your morbid curiosity. I'm pretty good with the wordy words, and when you're finished reading it you'll know what you need to know, but you might feel really awful for having asked in the first place.

Whaddaya think?

I don't like uconn and that's a fair assessment LOL...

This is not true at all -- at least not for me.

Does Boneyard have a thread just for nonUconn fans? Really asking. No snark.
Not for non-UConn fans, but they have a sub-board for "General Women's Basketball" to talk about the other teams besides UConn. It's more like it's on separate board as opposed to a singular thread.

Some Tennessee fans post on the UConn sub-board, and to be honest, they aren't exactly unwelcoming to us. However, I'm also more diplomatic over there than some of the UConn fans are here...so there's that.

I am, first and foremost, a women’s basketball fan. Go up and search my posts and you’ll see how little I talk about UConn and that I never troll your LV posts. The final time Geno and Dawn met, I was a freshman in college on the other side of the country and had no interest in women’s basketball. I don’t feel the rivalry the same way you older fans do.

I want to know because I genuinely don’t understand the dislike (beyond the fact that she plays for UConn).

I agree with people saying that she should be a more polished speaker (which I’ve said many times about Breanna Stewart, too). I disagree with people saying that she’s too emotional on the court, mostly because we, as a society, need to do better about normalizing strong emotions. I also agree that she has gotten a lot of screen time, but the fact that the previous year’s NPOY is missing such a significant amount of time is a storyline. It just hasn’t happened before. If, God forbid, Boston gets hurt at the beginning of next season, she’ll get the same treatment. I sort of agree that she spends too much time appealing to refs, but I’d say that about 99.9% of players. Won’t change the call…

So, I really was hoping there would be rational points I hadn’t considered. I acknowledge that I have blind spots when it comes to the program, as all fans do with teams they like, and was hoping to understand from your POV.

I’ll drop it and log out for a while. Y’all can continue hating her for the sake of hating her, but the eyes she brings to women’s basketball (from those who like her and those who don’t) are a necessary piece in growing the game.

I think what some are not acknowledging is that it's possible to appreciate talent while still finding habits & behavior annoying. That holds for players and coaches of fans' own teams. I can think of several UT coaches and/or players whom I found annoying or even actively disliked despite their contributing to Vol victories. The same is true for other college and pro teams I supported and also applies to teammates (I'm sure some of those feelings were reciprocated).

“Continue hating her for the sake of hating her”?

Find her “obnoxious.” Yes. That ain’t even close to “hating.”

There’s only one person I feel hatred for, and it ain’t some silly college kid. Get outta here with that overdramatic crap.

Hate to see you check out Argo. I enjoy hearing about your team in the great American West! We forget that there is exciting basketball and loyal fans at all levels of the game.
I’ll give one comment on the above discussion.
I find her a bit immature, maybe not too mindful of her teammates, perhaps pouty. Give her a couple of years and perhaps these edges will be smoothed off. JMO.
