Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

I said in the news that says former college coach is worried about BG situation. But again, pat would've come out openly and say something about it.
Far be it from me to defend lil Kim, but Griner's own family said nothing until a few days ago. It's obvious this was kept out of public spotlight to keep it from blowing up and being even more politicized. They've been trying to get her out of there without hoopala. Another case of just bc we didn't know about it doesn't mean those who count weren't aware and working on it.

Pat would never have come out and make a peep before the player's family, team, and the State Dept. did. Public knowledge is not always helpful in these sensitive situations.

Did it say head coach? Assistant coach? Kind of my point. Feel like KM wanted those wins but was very unsupportive of her as a young lesbian woman.
You are right about Pat.

Right, I get that. But now it’s out there…she could say something

Re the "Marines" being held in Russia. Both of them had served as Marines and I know the old saw about "once a Marine . . . " but neither of these guys are serving Marines. One of them (Reed) got sheetfaced drunk, the cops were called and he got into a punchup with them. He was convicted of assaulting a police officer and he got a stiff sentence. His girl friend said it wasn't true because he was so drunk he couldn't fight. He said he was so drunk he didn't remember anything except that he is innocent. Great defense. In the US he probably would have been sentenced to one week's probation.

The other guy is right where he belongs. He holds citizenship in 4 countries and received a bad conduct discharge from the Marines for theft, among other things. He was in Russia to attend a friend's wedding that he didn't attend. He was supposedly working some kind of security job for Borg Warner. When arrested he had $80,000 in cash on him and a thumb drive containing a list of employees at a classified Russian security agency.

So despite media making them out like some poor misunderstood military guys, they are probably both where they belong. The same might be true for Griner.
I didn't read up on the one who was charged with espionage. I did read up a bit on Trevor Reed. The first thing I thought was, "Silly American boy thinks he can get blackout drunk, act stupid and not face the consequence in a totalitarian regime...SMH!" Certainly, he put himself in a bad situation that could have been avoided. It was reported there were inconsistencies in the trial regarding the evidence. If that was the case, yeah...maybe something's fishy. But it doesn't change the fact that he could have avoided this by not drinking like he was at a college frat party.

I think we'll learn more soon about the details about Griner. Could very well be that she did the crime, but wasn't expecting to pay the Russian time for it.

"Oh say can you see ,
where BG has to stay.
She should have stood for the song
and let drugs stay away. "

" Now she can stay in Russia,
forever and ever,
instead of the home of the brave
and the land of da free! "

Brinae Alexander Grad Transfer

I know the Vandy fans were hoping she would follow Jordy and have Grad School at Vandy. My guess is that she might want to play for a championship. Great 2 guard and a great person. She shot 41% from the floor and 36% from 3 and 78% of FT's. A/TO ratio is too high for a point.

Wouldn't that be something if she left Shea for Geno. One can only giggle at that scenario.

Kelly Rae Finley just signed to 5-year deal for $3.7 million at Florida ($740,000 annually). There's an additional $290,000 per year available for various bonuses, perks, allowances, performance incentives, etc.

The press release said Staley gets $2.9 million per year while Mulkey makes $2.5 million. You'd think they would also give them a clothing allowance, but apparently not.

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff's Zaay Green continues to build her resume and make history after being named Newcomer Of The Year and First Team All-Conference.

"It was one of my goals at the start of the season, to accomplish this," said Green on her honors. "Coach Thornton pushed me, and my teammates helped me receive these awards. Now it's time for us to focus on the tournament and fight for a championship."

Zaay Green has been a major threat for the Lady Lions this season. Green leads the team in scoring (15.6 PPG), assists (5.0 APG), rebounds (7.4 RPG), and steals (2.2 SPG), while ranking in the top 10 in the SWAC in those categories.

Green's impactful season was highlighted by a few stellar performances.

Zaay ranks third in the nation in triple-double with two on the year.

So happy for her success! I know she’d be balling out this season if she’d been able to remain. She was a good one 🖤🖤

Sounds like Coach Yo has some other job offers. Possibly Texas A&M. That is a realllyyyy good job. Great institution and tradition.

Any thoughts on who Ole Miss might go for if she levels up?
