Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Yeah, agree with all of this. Puckett could go off this year, I really like her game. She would be a starter on most teams, and this team has a lot of mouths to feed. The bench IS deep.

As a SC fan, I have had to worry about feeding everyone for awhile now, you worry about the great players on the bench wishing they were playing more and looking around. It’s natural.

I want Bree Hall to get the increased PT this year for SC, I like her game almost as much as I like Puckett’s game. Sara Puckett is a really good BB player.

Good stuff. I have a great deal of respect for J. Walker.. yet I actually think very few HCs wouldn’t insert Puckett into the starting lineup after seeing her last season and the exhibition game.

S.Carolina is a well oiled machine.. I thought last season that Coach Staley did give some young players like Bree Hall a decent amount of playing time.. and it’ll be interesting to see how Raven Johnson plays returning from injury. I’ve always loved watching Z.Cook and Beal play. Got nothing but respect for Boston. This is good for women’s college basketball!

The most surprising outcome of today's opening day matchups so far has to be Oklahoma winning against Oral Roberts, but allowing them to score 94 points to their 105. Wow! All respect due to Oral Roberts for the performance, but this does mean Oklahoma played absolutely zero defense.

Oklahoma was up 67-37 at the half. I suspect extended playing time by Oklahoma's bench, vs Oral Robert's starters, had something to do with the close final score.

Not to take anything away from Reese - she's a great player. But it's gonna be diffcult to gauge how good that team is until they play somebody.
My only take away so far is they are talented and much more athletic than last years team.

Sad a team with that level of talent is playing HS level teams. Players deserve way better

Oregon State did one of the strangest flip flops. They went from one of the tallest teams in the PAC-12 to one of the shorter.

They lost 5 players 6’4” or taller. Really didn’t replace what they lost. Barely beat Hawaii today.

I was too busy to watch games live yesterday, but of the ones I caught some of late last night, only South Carolina looked really good for how early it is. I did watch all the teams with my "it's the first game so they aren't going to look super great" glasses on, so I saw what I expected.

With Horston playing at home and under all the nerves and pressure she is likely to feel (and her teammates FOR her), I won't be surprised if our Lady Vols come out tight. I mean, Jordan's grandmother is going to get to see her granddaughter play her first collegiate game in person! I just hope Jordan has a good game. Doesn't have to be great, but I'm hoping for at least a good one.

LSU looked as good as anybody that played yesterday with their 125 to 50 win and Angel Reese finally played made 11 if 14 field goal attempts and the team shot 56 percent. Carson and Morris are solid to go with Reese. Flague played well last night I expect her to be up and down as a starting freshman. SC looked very good against ETSU as well. Ole Miss, Vandy, Georgia, Florida and Missouri not to impressed and Arkansas played their first game worse than I expected. Alabama looks like a fairly good team this season.

Didn't see that one. Maybe I'll watch it today to help pass the time.

It’s showtime 🟧🟧🎥🍿‼️ S.Carolina is the lone team that came out ahead of the pack right now as we anticipate the first official game of the 2022-2023 Tennessee Lady Vols tonight.

Despite the strong performance from SC, I saw a few things that once I can evaluate Tennessee following their performance tonight will solidify my mid-season prediction of the LVs claiming the #1 ranking as the top team in WCBB.

The key will be how Coach Harper uses the team depth in this game.
I don’t see Ohio State having an answer for Hollingshead, Puckett, Marta, Franklin, Miles, Pissott & company coming off the bench!

Looked as good as anybody meaning that they were playing Bellamarine a team ranked number 342 but SC played ETSU ranked number 330 so it was basically a layup drill for both teams. JMO I think Carson Newman could beat either team and they are Division two.

HVL had 28 pts for Louisville. I watched alot of this game and Louisville has more size than they have had in recent years and they still prone to 2nd half scoring droughts. Lady Vol great Bridgette Gordon is an assistant coach at Cincinnati.

Reese was great with her drives to the rim all night from the 3 point line . Can't honestly remember any shots she made from outside 2 feet or any mid range / 3 pointers at all . She didn't really share the ball with her teammates more so looking for her own against smaller competition. They were able to throw it over the top to her alot as well which wont work in the SEC . Williams and Reese both were a bit undisciplined on the defensive end and they will need to be a lot tougher downlow on the boards to compete for a top spot in the SEC.

Quite frankly out of all the LSU players I was more impressed with their freshmen Sa’Myah Smith. I remember us recruiting her out of HS before her knee injuries. If she can stay healthy she will be a good one.

Reese is great but truthfully I would hate to be a teammate of someone who gets 99% of the attention no matter what she does or doesn’t do. I saw lots of great performances by other LSU players but instead it’s only about Reese
