Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

If Vandy wants to hire a former UCONN star they need to try to get Berube from Princeton. She can coach some basketball. Also has some experience recruiting for a program at a very good academic institution.

I think White and Ralph both underestimated how difficult it is to recruit at Vanderbilt.

Over under on whether Ralph is retained at Vandy after this season? Very strong possibility they do not win a single SEC game. Might pick up a win over Auburn or Kentucky but I think both those teams can beat them.

At this point it’s worse than when White was there. They had all sorts of personnel problems during her tenure as well but they were slightly more competitive than they have been this season.

I’m thinking that she and her husband get one more season at most, but wouldn’t be shocked to see them let go after this year.
I doubt she is let go at this point. White was given 5 years and from the initial looks would have been given one more had there not been a mutiny among the players. Ralph is on year 2 of what is a total rebuild. She will get more time.

Vandy will need to find some players they could be a lot worse net season. Harbison is a one year player and they have another graduate and two seniors. They are losing two players to the portal only one recruit in top 100. If the rebuild is going in the right direction going to need a big portal haul this year.

They are favored at home against TAMU and they have 2 more toss ups per Her Hoop Stats but I suspect those games will move into underdog territory as the season wears on those 8 players. They actually have 3 nice players on that team. Harbison and the post player are quite good.

I do not think they will best TAMU. TAMU also isn’t good, but they at least played a tougher non-con schedule.

Oh man I hate this for Kyra. Bet it ends up costing her big, even though it appears she's right.

Oh Lord I just realized P. Dex is Kyra's hubby. Oh no no no. Support silently. What a mess, now personal.

That KY team last year was a nightmare.

Not a good move P. Dex…

Sure sounds like some of those Baylor (a "Christian" university, no less) folk are perfectly fine with telling blatant lies and expecting others to be fine with telling lies, too. While this whole public battle is unseemly, I do understand why Kyra wouldn't want to tell the blatant lie that Dre and the Baylor folk are so comfortable asking her to tell on official NCAA paperwork.

Kyra Elzy is not a liar, and that's what's irritating Baylor and their fans.

I mean, love, support and protect for sure, even warn those creeps at Baylor AD and alert the KY State Police.

But not publically! Don't interject yourself into her public, professional debate. I know I personally would not have survived the incident if I had ever done that.

It's that damn social media, makes everyone Prince Harry.

Yeah now that it’s all out in the open the Baylor staff and Edwards and her family just look stupid. Kyra needs to hold the line here, there are rules for a reason and no crazy parent should bully you into bending them.

Dre was ineligible half of last year for academic reasons. Baylor is a difficult school, I should think she should focus on getting her academics straightened out then worry about basketball.

Not that I think there's ANY chance of it happening, it would be a huge mistake for Vandy to let her go so quickly. Unfortunately for Ralph she had terrible luck with injuries to several starting players, and that has obviously set them back this season. The AD is going to understand that was out of her control. But then, the players she DOES have available are scrappy and show a lot of promise IMO. I believe she'll eventually get the program back to being competitive against top 25s.

Yes, I agree. Kyra is in one of those "wish I knew then what I know now" situations. That said, I do wonder how it could have escaped Kyra and Niya's vetting process that Dre'una might have academic challenges. Or, DID it? Was this a recent development, or did the problems start much earlier and were either covered up by Utah or overlooked by Kyra because she figured they could help her?

Not everyone is cut out for college, and there's nothing wrong with that. But if someone enrolls in college then they must abide by the same rules everyone else does. I may be misremembering, but I think a woman can still play in the WNBA without a college degree but she has to be 22. Is that right?

Rules are in place for a reason, she knew she would not be eligible being her second transfer. If you transfer twice, it's not the schools....it's you, those advising you or both. Sit the year and come back better next year or go play professionally.

Dree Edwards won't stick to a WNBA team even if she does manage to get drafted. She really needs to finish her degree.

I personally wouldn't have put this out there, but I think that bag was opened when Edwards unleashed a wave of negative PR onto Kentucky without the full story being told. At this point, the reality of the harrassment does need to be made public for UK's sake, though a formal statement or filed report would have been ideal of course!

I dunno...she looks like she'd make a nice SF somewhere. She's got a really versatile inside-outside game.
I could see her riding the bench on a team and getting waived eventually, but there's just too many people with similar skillsets out there to deal with such a dramatic player.

You would think that, but Courtney Williams still manages to find a way to stay on the rosters.

I agree except in cases like Bru McCoy, where USC was not allowing him to play or where there might be a family emergency or illness (hardship situation). None of that applies here.

Yes, and they showed some spunk in both the LSU and UT games despite being out-manned. I think they will pick up a couple of wins.
