Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

The number of season ending injuries is really out of control this year, and the reasons are all over the place. The one I support is that the girls now-w-days are bigger and stronger, with a lot more physical play going on during the games. The powers at be seem to liken their game to more like the Mens game, with the much more physical team having an advantage over the finesse teams. Just another guess, but it's really sad to see what has happened to so many players this year. I just pray that none of these injuries are permanent, as these girls have spent their entire young lives trying to make a career of playing basketball.

I think that player got dismissed due to academics .

My thought as well. Happened around the time final grades would have been posted. Vandy is no joke, if you’re gonna coach there you’ve got to be sure your players can pass. No easy way out there.

Based on my eye test, I'd say the top half of the SEC are SC, LSU, Arkansas, Tennessee, Ole Miss and MSST. Not impressed with anything I've seen from any of the other teams.
I think every SEC team in the top 4 have a or another loss or two by the time conference play is over. Nobody is really dominant so far, everyone can be beat. Would surprise me if anyone goes clean from here.

I would replace State with Georgia because they do have size and 6-3 Smith has been playing well. I think if the other players start helping Smith out and shooting the ball better they should finish in the top half ?

I kind of feel like MSST should be better than they are. The trio of Jessika Carter, Anastasia Hayes, and JerKaila Jordan should have this team ranked. I think that Purcell is really messing up with how he's managing Anastasia. Let her sister run PG duties and set Anastasia loose to score; that's what she does best.

Say it louder for those in the back! Purcell is a joke...

You gotta keep her on a leash or she becomes the entire offense and that is not good for them.

Their biggest issue right now is rebounding. Since SEC play started they are getting hammered on the glass.

Denae Carter has been out. She crashes the boards and that’s what they need. Once she’s back in the lineup they are a tougher team if she’s healthy. Not looking forward to playing them on their court.

On the game broadcast they indicated Purcell is looking for more efficient scoring than Annie can deliver. My amazement is that she agreed to it.

At this point she wouldn’t have a choice. For the first time in her career it’s his way or the Highway because she cannot transfer. Her only option is to abide by what he wants or not play.

LOL good point, but that kind of logic has never stopped them before. Where are the sisters now?

They are both (Aislynn and Alasia) still on the MSST roster.

Not sure what their deal is. Alasia played one game Aislynn has played none. I didn’t think to look if they were on the bench when we played. Just don’t care enough lol.

Edit: Aislynn is out for 22-23 after off-season shoulder surgery.

I'm surprised you're not a fan given he's from Walz's coaching tree. Anyway, they should have hired Doug Novak. Sure, Purcell was the bigger name, but Doug had that team playing hard and together, even if the cards were stacked against them with all of the injuries and Rickea's departure. Hayes was averaging almost 19 points while shooting 47%. She looks like a shadow of her old self this season and is playing worse than she did as a freshman. I guess losing Myah Taylor really hurt her game. She looks like she's overthinking out there and has lost her attack mentality.

She was at 19 pts and 47% shooting last year, compared to 8 pts and 37% shooting this year. I'd say that Purcell might be a bit clueless here.

They had balance last year. She was willing to defer to Rickea and even JerKaila. She played her best last season and was playing within a team concept, unlike at MTSU when it was all about her.

I agree that the rebounding is terrible. They haven't been a good rebounding team since Vic left. Denae has played all season except for the Tennessee game. Not sure why she missed that one, but they could have used her rebounding. But even with her back in the lineup vs. SC, they still got murdered on the boards. If they could have kept the rebounding closer, they probably would have pulled off the upset.

I thought from watching television that Anastasia played the point guard well - 10 assists. I'm sure the game was one of great pressure on her even after four year absense. If only she hadn't the need to whine and other antics,

and for those of you who have followed recruiting for a decade - Holly and the boarders then felt the Lady Vols would have all the sisters year after year. As well as the Hamilton HS starting team.

Lady Raiders coach Krista Gerlich condemned Bre'Amber Scott in a statement Monday, two days after the Texas Tech basketball player made obscene gestures toward the crowd after being ejected in a road game against TCU. If you watch on u-tube you probably will come away with a concern about character, and wonder what her coach will do. the reason for posting she transferred from Mississippi State.

There's also a younger Hayes sister, a freshman, at Western Kentucky: Acacia. She's averaging 10.3 points, 1.8 boards, 1.7 assists, 1.1 steals, and is 11-23 from 3.

Also Purcell is starting to be like some other coaches not going to the bench when he should. 6-5 Kohl needs to play more for this team to have any shot to knock off TN,LSU,SC need to go with more size.
